"onlyfans but it's [something not sexual]" jokes annoy the absolute fuck out of me, because there has been an active issue of non-SWers pushing SWers off the fucking platform.
Here's one for you: OnlyFans but y'all actually support sex workers materially
"onlyfans but my content isn't sexual it's-"
patreon. you're describing patreon. go back to that platform and stop hijacking sex workers spaces.
genuine question: wouldn't having platforms that are sex worker-friendly but not exclusively for sex work help prevent those websites from being targeted e.g. by anti-SW legislation like SESTA/FOSTA?
Genuine response:
I see your thought process, but the answer, unfortunately, is no, not really. If a platform gets associated with sex work, even if it's only a fraction of the content, it gets targeted, and the sex workers get run off. There were actually quite a lot of sex workers on Patreon back in the day (I was friends with several), and then they got run out of the platform entirely as Patreon rebranded as the mainstream content creator website.
The more non-SWers that flood into OnlyFans, the quicker OnlyFans decides to boot all the SWers off and cater only to the SFW userbase. Because if they get rid of the SWers, they won't get targeted by anti-SWer legislation, but they'll still make their money.
If that makes sense?
Basically, content hosting companies really only give a shit as long as they keep making money, and if non-SW content is gonna make them more money and keep them from having to deal with legal issues around SW, they'll ditch SWers in a heartbeat.
(Which is, incidentally, why we should all be supporting platforms created, managed, and designed by SWers where we can find them.)
