If you ever feel stupid, just remember that Myung-gi thought there was something between Jun-hee and Gi-hun as if he and Young-il hadn't been eye-fucking for the entirety of season 2
Dae-ho fans thinking they were gonna get an exploration of ptsd flashbacks only for Dae-ho to have a complete personality transplant and admit he lied about being in the marines
Hyun-ju fans thinking they were gonna get a bunch more badass scenes with her only for her to get killed off in episode 2 by the worst character ever
Jun-ho fans thinking he was actually going to be allowed to shine and impact the plot in a tangible way this time only for the writers to pull yet another "you could take him out of the show and the plot wouldn't really change"
Hwang brothers fans thinking they were going to get the reunion they were all waiting for only for Jun-ho to shout a few words at In-ho from a considerable distance away and then nothing more
Inhun / 457 fans anticipating the big reveal of who In-ho really is to Gi-hun only for it to last two minutes, with Gi-hun never finding out In-ho's true identity as Jun-ho's brother, no exploration into why In-ho became the front man, etc
Gi-hun fans thinking he would survive because surely after all he's been through he'll be allowed to live only for... yeah
“What are we?”
—“What we think.”
Can we go back to December 26th of 2024 and stay there forever
What a beautiful time that was
In-ho: You're smiling. What happened?
Gi-hun: What? Can't I smile just because I feel like it?
Jun-ho: The salesman tripped and fell down the stairs today.
To be honest, at this point I just wish there was never s2&s3 of SG to begin with
The main reason is we got NOTHING new to the plot lines than were left open after season one. Jun-ho’s story? Completely butchered and useless, if it wasn’t for Wook-seok he would have never even found an island in the first place, bc he never doubted captain’s intentions. They did his character so dirty, he is a detective ffs, and he never at least once thought to look into that captain? Because he was so blinded by the fact that he saved his life? Yeah, whatever. And he achieved nothing in terms of finding his brother, just got a lot of people killed along the way, and at the end of s3 we are at the same place we were at the end of s1 (and you could already guess that he was alive bc we saw how much In-ho cared about him despite everything, and it was a pretty logical guess that he saved him somehow), with even the same words he managed to say to In-ho two times already (I get that if was like parallel to s1, but I thought it just was stupid)
In-ho’s plot line? Nothing new here too. We already knew everything we know about him by the end of s3 from s1. We saw that he was not some pure evil, but human inside through subtle things (that scene in bathroom after he shot his brother was pretty enough), and we already knew he was mesmerised with Gi-hun by his reaction in the last game of s1 when Gi-hun wanted to leave without money and by their interactions after the games. But aside from that, all questions that we had after season one are still unanswered - why did he decide to join the games as frontman? Why did he live after his games in shitty motels without spending his money? What does he do in between the games? What happened in his own games? How he won them? Yes, we got that one minute clip, but really, is that all? And that clip only adds more questions - why Il-nam gave knife precisely to him? Did he know his beforehand, like In-ho knew Gi-hun, or he liked him from the games? Yes, you can say that there are a lot of things you can read between the lines, but I done it perfectly in season one, why do I need two more seasons? For what?
Gi-hun’s plotline - in my opinion, also let down the drain. He could have been so much more, but in the end it all came down to “you can never win against rich and powerful, so don’t even try”. And that’s completely true, but again, did we really need all those episodes to find it out? It was pretty much obvious that if he goes down there again alone he would die, I never thought that he comes there and saves the day. He could have at least prepared better, have a lot of back-up plans, don’t focus only on recruiter, may be travel with Jun-ho on a boat a couple of times (may be he would even suspect the something is wrong with the captain), and not just have a tracker and that’s all. You could say that “but he believed in humanity so much and relied on them” - yes he did, and he stayed like that till the very end, but he already changed a lot (wiling to sacrifice people and going on that riot), why couldn’t he be just a little bit more patient and observing? I just wish that they went more with “I want to stop the games” and be Gi-hun smarter about it, but it all was more like a personal vendetta in the end. Let’s be honest, he had no chance to stop something alone or with that rebellion, he just wanted to get to the frontman bc he made him this embodiment of evil in his mind, but even if he got through he would’t change anything. Because he didn’t have a plan or even something close to it. He could also have been a first spark to ignite the fire of change, to inspire someone to keep trying even if he couldn’t, but there is no one left who knows about his sucrifise besides In-ho, all the others doesn’t even know that he is dead, and do you really believe he changed him so much for In-ho to go and try to do something real with the American games? I don’t think so. If anything, In-ho just got conformation of his own beliefs. And couldn’t we say in the end of s1 that he is very good and caring person, but if he got mixed up in all this he would die, because he doesn’t have the cruelty in him to go through with all of this? I sure could, I would be more surprised if he achieved something tbh
Ga-yeong - all this time thought that her dad just abandoned her and didn’t give a damn, just to find out that he is dead and get a bloody jacket and a pile of money in the end? Well thanks, I think that In-ho was really trying to be nice here and give Gi-hun’s memory some closure or smth so his daughter wouldn’t hate him, but she can start being curious and would want to find out what is that all about and get mixed up in the games, and I was the last thing Gi-hun ever wanted, so it’s not even happy end here too
American squid games - we already knew from season one that the games are international, nothing new or shocking here, it was just a hook for the American spin-off and nothing more
The only plot line that got to it’s logical end it the one with Sae-byeok’s mother, but it was also clear from s1 that if they could get her back they would, so nothing new here too
And overall, I liked how and where the story ended in season one - the story was very cruel, and brutal, and downright horrible, but all the plot lines were consistent, we got all the answers we needed, read a lot of answers between the lines, and even got a little hope in the end, however unrealistic it may be. It left you wondering about the universe and wanting to discuss it. After season three I got nothing of that. Not a single big question about main plot lines was answered in these two seasons, nothing big happened plotwise, and we just got a teaser for more shows to come in the end. But I guess the real message of all this is capitalism wins, inside and outside of the show, and it won when hdh sold himself to Netflix (no shame here, it just how the world works) and they are just milking it for money and will be doing it for a long time to come
The real Squid Game villains are the games, the system, the corruptions, the VIPs and rich, powerful people.
In-ho has made mistakes and done terrible things, but he’s also trapped, wounded, traumatized and is as much of their victim as Gi-hun is.
Thinking about how Inho carries constant misery, his inability to truly protect those he loves, as well as his powerlessness to convince them to change their minds before it's too late.
It all started with his wife. Although her illness wasn't his fault, Inho tried to convince her to have an abortion to save her life. She refused and ended up dying, leaving him devastated and alone.
Later, when he became Frontman, his wish was for his family to remember him as a good man, an honorable former police officer. But he underestimated Junho's deep love for him, as well as his brother's determination to find and "save" him. The biggest shock for Junho was discovering that Inho was now an active part of a system where people are murdered in perverse games. Even so, Inho tried to persuade him to join him. When Junho refused, the bond between them was completely broken when Inho shot him back.
With Gihun, the story was different but equally painful. Seeing that he, too, had won the Games and wanted to return to try to save others, Inho failed to understand his motivations. He then decided to infiltrate the Games as a player, intending to slowly shatter his hopes. Probably (like us, the viewers), he didn't expect Gihun to start a rebellion. Perhaps he believed they would finish the Games together, but when he saw that wasn't happening and that he was even beginning to grow fond of him, he faced a dilemma: should he punish Gihun or kill him outright? Unable to choose the latter, he ended up murdering Jungbae in front of Gihun, both to teach him a lesson and to stay alive.
Now Inho is trapped in his own contradiction. Although he technically won his ideological battle, he is emotionally broken. Gihun, destroyed, begs him to kill him, but he can't. He keeps letting him live, breaking his own rules about equality for everyone in the games, something that's clearly no longer true. This contradiction is wearing him down more than he wants to admit.
In short, everyone Inho has ever loved or cared about ends badly, and in the process, drags him down as well.
His story is nothing short of a tragedy.

I swear I'm not saying this as an inhun shipper, but please tell me I'm not the only one who can totally see Gi-hun pulling a Naruto with In-ho.
Like I imagine a scenario like this: the island is about to blow up, In-ho wants to stay behind and die to atone for his sins or some shit, but then Gi-hun reaches out to him like "no bitch, you're coming with us and you're gonna work hard for your redemption"
Bonus point if there's a gun/knife nearby and Gi-hun kicks it away so In-ho can't pull the same shit Sang-woo pulled
— Lee Byung-hun on In-ho’s relationship with Gi-hun
And what if in the end Ih-Ho and Gi-Hun will share a scene and they wold look longingly at each other and In-Ho would say “go, take the boat and save yourself and everyone you can and be happy” and then go and blow up the island with himself and VIPs still there, what then
