Gender wage gap exists but we should also be talking about the racial wage gap. Especially comparing white women to women of color.

Oh yes--because this is a nuanced convo that white women don’t deal with.

When white women speak about the gender wage gap--they really really just wanna be equal to white men and they only care about themselves. Because statistically, white women are paid fare more than women and men of color, and black men and women.

Like when white women talk about “women need to be paid as much as men” it’s clearly not black men or men of color they’re talking about, and on top of that, they don’t even bring women of color into these conversations because then they’d have to admit that also benefit from a racial wage gap

It's a fairly common practice amongst white women to use stats that are heavily skewed lower because of unfair treatment of women of colour to then make it seem like they're treated the same way. White women are paid less than men but not as low as 77c on the dollar. I think it's closer to 88c-93c on the dollar. For women of colour? Forget it. That number's at 43c-66c or some sh*t. Trans people often bring up murder rates without pointing to the fact most murders of trans people are done to trans women, and then out of those almost 75% of the murdered trans women are Black. It's genuinely ridiculous how much this sh*t disproportionately affects women of colour but white women refuse to acknowledge that they have much more power than people of colour ever could have.
