Hiya! This is @tart-miano's OC blog, where I plan on talking at length about my magical girl-themed Jekyll & Hyde story, "Zoetrope; Circle of Life". Here's a few FAQ because this blog is probablyyyy going to be hard to navigate with all the stuff going on (well, I say FAQ but. nobody's asked me anything about my OCs yet??? let's sayyy, these WOULD be the questions people would ask lmao)

Q: Where's the story you're talking about? Is it a webcomic, or maybe on AO3? A: I feel really bad, but- it's a fic I'm writing that isn't done yet. You may notice I say sometimes that I've been working on Zoetrope since 2015, and that's kinda true?? I've been working on and off on it for so long due to Life Stuff™️but recently I've been powering through writing sessions, and it's over halfway done (I only wanna release it AFTER it's complete so it maintains consistency. I know, it's a fanfiction but. I'm nothing if not dedicated to my craft gd!!) When I'm done, I'll post it on AO3, but that probably won't be for a while. I apologize, but I REALLY wanted to have an outlet to talk about my characters ahead of time T-T

Q: Are there any triggers I need to look out for while learning about your characters? A: Yes, and I will absolutely list every one of them in the tags, should they come up in a post. Be forewarned that in general, this is a story about self-hatred, which may entail emotional self harm and suicidal ideation.

Q: Is it okay if I block you? A: Yeah totally, I get that I'll be clogging the J&H tag with my magical girl AU, and if you're not a fan of magical girls that's probably a lil annoying lol. Nobody's hurting my feelings if they don't wanna interact with my posts, I'm just here to have a good time!

a blacksmith with a lost identity 🌙☀️ backstory below!

An immortal with no memory of her life before the year 1929, Zelda had to create her identity from scratch. Her name, her birthday, she had no choice but to make up new ones. The only thing in this new life she was able to choose not out of necessity was her wife Meng, who comforted her when they both happened to be patients in the same hospital. Now they spend the ages together, co-running a nonprofit that builds tiny houses for homeless LGBTQIA+ people. -All Zelda had in her pockets when she woke up with no memories, was a pendant that resembled the alchemical symbol for platinum. She doesn't know why of course, but something tells her it's important to her -A strange woman named Crow entered Zelda's life not long after she was released- gave her a place to stay, food, clothing. Crow doesn't do it anymore, but when they first met, Zelda would catch her out of the corner of her eye, staring at her like she was a ghost. -She's a blacksmith in her off-time. Right off the bat after leaving the hospital with Meng, she offhandedly mentioned how badly she wanted to "get back to the shop". Nothing ever came of this other than her getting back into the craft -Her and Meng's grandson is Victor (he's learned if he's being threatened by anyone in the magical community, he can threaten to sic his grandmothers on them. And it works!)

Perle: Adopted by a French alchemist in the 1100s. Initially got into alchemy out of desperation to transition (since medical sciences outside of alchemy were definitely not going to help her in this time period) but fell in love with it, as it gave power and control to people otherwise oppressed and abandoned by society -It turned out that most people, upon discovering the existence of alchemy as a magic-like craft, used their findings to change themselves in some capacity (usually to transition) So to create a safe place where people could practice alchemy under the guidance of more experienced alchemists, Perle created Ishtar's Embrace, a secret society that remains practicing today due to most alchemists being immortal. -Meng turns to Ishtar's when Sherry is cursed, but since it's the strongest curse there is, they can't find any solution. Perle begrudgingly lets Sherry and co. used the Ishtar's headquarters as their base of operations while they try to find a way to take down the Magister, but only because its in Ishtar's best interest to rid the world of anyone using alchemy for nefarious purposes -Perle's virtue is honesty- she'll let you know if you've done something stupid, and won't coddle you for your own mistakes. That's why she dislikes Sherry; if Sherry hadn't opened a book that didn't belong to her, she wouldn't be cursed, and more-so wouldn't be Perle's problem. She has a whole society of people to watch over, she can't play mommy to a "grown woman who should've known better".

Marcus: A mad scientist dedicated to the cause of ridding humanity of all its imperfections, joining the Mariposians as a way to help achieve that goal. When he's not working at the Mariposian headquarters, he's out searching for potential "patients" (as you can guess, no-one ever consents to this) He'll lull people into a false sense of security by pretending to be a doctor in order to weed out the people who desperately need to be "fixed". If you tell him you're insecure, have anger issues, depression, you name it, he'll see you as being a prospective patient, and when you're at your most vulnerable he'll kidnap you and take you to the HQ to be experimented on. Well, that's how things USED to be done with the Mariposians; they'd target individuals across a wide-range to remain inconspicuous, but then they figured it'd be easier to just target a whole town of imperfect people, and one was ripe for the picking with New Eden. -Marcus took a little boy named Daniel to be his patient- coincidentally, Daniel was one of Historian's friends, and Historian offered himself up to be experimented on in exchange for Daniel's freedom (then Eddie was born and he beat the shit out of Marcus) -The leader and all their lackeys are based off of different bugs/the things bugs feed off of. Marcus is based off the worker bee -his counterpart is Markheim (technically not a J&H character, but close enough lol) -maybe, like his counterpart, he'll seek redemption?

🍋🍋‍🟩 backstories below! 🍇💜

Elisa: A bubbly, optimistic girl who loves her best friend Lucia to death. She knows Lucia is in a shitty living situation, and brings her food when her mom doesn't make dinner/invites her to stay over at her house when Lucia's mom is in a bad mood. She gets really worried when one day Lucia doesn't show up for school- turns out, the girl became friends with this weird angel lady and now she's Lucia's mom??? Well, she'll try to be supportive. Anybody's better than Lucia's first mom. -From a wealthy family- she's the only one in the bloodline who's not a stick in the mud, and maintains contact with her cousin (after he was disowned) -OBSESSED with lemons and limes, to a concerning degree. You give her a Sprite and she's like "OH MY FAVORITE how did you know :D" -Upon first meeting Lucia, Elisa already felt a strange familiarity with her, like she'd seen her before in a hazy dream -Counterpart is Lisa Carew!

Lucia: A depressed young girl who longs for a better life, as she lives in a broken-down apartment with her abusive mother. Elisa is the only bright spot in her life, but even then she's not enough- she wants to be cared for and cherished by a parent who loves her. She wishes on the stars for an angel to come and save her from all this- then, one night (when Lucia is hiding outside from her angry mother) she encounters this beautiful, towering woman with giant white bird wings on her back. The lady says she doesn't have a name, so Lucia calls her "Emily" so she doesn't have to keep saying "angel lady". They bond after Emily asks Lucia where her mom is, and she breaks down crying. From then on Emily swears to protect the girl, stealing her away to live with her. Turns out, Emily isn't an angel; she's a Hyde, specifically Wisty's (after her "life was ruined", she dramatically sacrificed her own identity to give life to the "person she should be", and that person needed to be "angelic in nature". The EOT took that literally and made Emily into the kind of being you'd see on a stained glass window) And while the two of them live in paradise together (staying at fancy hotels, buying new clothes and going to theme parks all on Wisty's credit card) it can't last forever, as a Hyde made like this is inherently going to be sickly and eventually die (killing both Emily and Wisty) if they are not restored to their original form. Sherry discovers this and has to make the horrible choice- bring back Wisty so she can live and destroy Emily, the only loving mother figure this child has ever had; or leave things the way they are on the off-chance Emily will survive her illness. -A major coffee addict- at first it was to help her stay alert and hypervigilant, but now she drinks it for the taste. Elisa makes it for her sometimes when she stays over -Counterpart is Lucy Harris!

the angel of New Eden 😇🪽 backstory below!

Wisty has been revered as the "sweetheart" of New Eden since practically the day she was born. She sings, she dances, does gymnastics and ballet, and is overall very charismatic. She adores the attention she gets when she shows off her talents, valuing it above every other aspect of her life. But secretly behind the saccharine smiles and her velvety voice, Wisty is incredibly insecure, short-tempered, and selfish (kind of a Karen personality) The only reason she went for years without blowing up at somebody when they mildly inconvenienced her, is because her reputation meant everything to her- until one day she was in a particularly nasty mood, someone caught her public freakout on camera, and now she's being blasted on social media. She thinks her life is over if she's not on her pedestal, and because of this becomes the first (and only) person to willingly be experimented on by the villains. Wisty thinks that maybe, if she could just start over as a new person, she could regain her throne. So she takes the EOT, and becomes the first Hyde that looks like a completely normal human- aside from the giant white wings on her back (a result of her wishing for her Hyde to be an "angelic" person) -Sherry sees Wisty as more of a big sister figure than a cousin. They grew up playing together all the time, and even now they're good friends (Wisty will kill you on sight if you fuck with Sherry) -Her absurdly long, silky hair is the result of a SHITton of vitamins and expensive salon visits. She sees it as a great recognizable trait for a potential popstar to have, which is why she values it so much -her counterpart is Enfield!

About Wisty's Hyde, codename "The Seraph": -this EOT variant was made with silver -can fly, but only for short bursts at a time, due to her being a generally frail person. -Her poor health is at the fault of the elixir that created her; while silver is the best metal to use if you want a humanoid Hyde (created via the Chryso-Born variant of the EOT) it is still an imperfect method, as without monster blood in her EOT (which within a drop contains enough aether for a thousand people to subsist off of) she doesn't have enough energy to survive. Humans aren't built to have magical powers at every hour of the day (i.e, there's not enough aether in Emily's body to allow her to fly) Sadly, her body may die if she is not purified of the EOT, allowing Wisty to return permanently.
