Chapter 19

6 months later 

Nina 

I smiled walking out my hell hole. ‘’ Have a great one Nina’’ Stacy the receptionist said as I walked past her. I smiled knowing where I’m going first. I'm kinda glad Chris put me here. After realizing that I wasn’t going to get my way, I just let them do what the fuck they wanted to and let them think they have won. 

Being a smart woman. I turned this experience into something positive and now that I am free even earlier than expected. ‘’Fools.’’ I laughed looking back at the rehab center before getting into my cab.

‘’Where to?’’ The driver asked looking through the review mirror. 

‘’Take me to this school. I need to pick up my daughter.’’ I asked leaning forward and handing him the piece of paper which has Sasha’s nursery address on it. 

‘’Ok madam’’ 

Once we got there I asked him to wait while I quickly grabbed my child and he nodded. I looked around before proceeding towards the school and knocking on the door to see a familiar face. ‘’Hey Mrs. Nina welcome back Mr brown told me you went on holiday’’She said. 

‘’Y-yeah it’s a family thing and then had business trips after that. My husband told me not to worry and hurry back that he would take care of everything’’ I responded back. ‘’Is Sasha here?’’ I asked as my heart dropped. I missed my baby girl so much. Seeing her picture every day made me strong. 

‘’Yea she is doing you want me to call her?’’ She asked and I shook my head no. ‘’I am actually here for Nola’’ 

‘’Really? Why?’’ She asked looking worried. 

‘’Her Mother is a close friend of mine and she said she is stuck at work and asked me if I could pick her up early’’ I stated smiling.

‘’Oh ok’’ She said reluctantly as she called out for Nola. Who came running with smiles on her face and paints all over her clothes. I guess today’s class was finger painting. ‘’Hey Nola your mom’s friend is here to pick you and take you to your mom’s office’’ Sarah said. 

Nola looked up at me and hide behind Sarah’s legs holding them tight. Mom says I should not go anywhere with strangers.’’ She said and I rolled my eyes. 

I smiled before squatting down, putting on my sweet voice on. ‘’Hey sweety don’t be scared. I am very close to your mom at work. I have just been busy traveling so I could not hang out with you all those months. ‘’We don’t want to keep your mom waiting do we now?’’ I asked and she shook her head no before grabbing on tight to her teddy and waking up to me. ‘’Good girl’’ I said. grabbing a hold of her hand and leading her to the cab. 

Ashley 

‘’Christopher stop!’’ I yelled. 

‘’No we are going to this dinner and you are going to smile and be happy Ok besides, I haven’t met any member of your family except your brother’’ 

‘’I can’t believe you said yes to her stupid dinner.’’ I have never gone to one for the last  12 years and here you are accepting dinner invitation from strangers.’’

‘’Hey now, she is your mother’’ I sighed and managed to get out of his grip.  

‘’You wouldn’t understand’’ I said before walking out of our room and heading downstairs hearing his footstep following suite.

‘’Help me understand’’ He said standing behind me. ‘’You can’t just shut me out every time this topic arises… You do it every time’’ He said making me feel guilty. 

Turing around on my feet I wrapped my arm around  his neck and pulled him in for a kiss. ‘’ I’m sorry baby this is the only part of my life I don’t want to share and since we are engaged for the second time, I feel that you should know. I just don’t know how to put it into words.’’ I said stepping away from him trying to gather my thoughts. 

I chuckled. ‘’You know when Nola was born, the very first time I laid my eyes on her, I felt true love. I knew she was a gem and I have to protect her from the dangers lurking out there in the world. I mean I will die to protect her and even kill anyone who ever comes close to touching her…’’ I said looking up at him with tears in my eye and chuckled again. 

‘’ … But my mother’’ I laughed. ‘’She is a joke. She did not deserve to have me or my brother although she treats my brother like a king, she treated me like I was just and object. She let my father my own father… may his soul rot in hell’’ I said with so much venom. ‘’She allowed my father, my blood to beat on me and treat me however he pleased. I was raped, used and abused in a place I am meant to call a safe haven.

‘’And my mother just stood there and watched.’’ I ended as I collapsed on the floor crying. Chris rushed to my aid and said nothing. He just held me as tight as he can like I was going to disappear from his hands any minute. 

‘’I’m sorry baby girl.. we don’t have to go if you don’t want to’’ He said in a whisper kissing my forehead. 

‘’No I  want to go’’ I said wiping my tears ‘’Enough of running,’’ I added.

We pulled up to the house and I froze. I haven’t been here since I was 16. And I did not dream of getting back here. I looked over to the guest house and shut my eyes.

 Flashback

 “Daddy no!” I yelled as he dragged me from the main house to the guest house. 

“You want to be smart don’t you,” He said throwing me on the bed. 

“No, I’m not smart… I’m not” I cried as he unravels his belt. 

“Who was that boy you were talking to huh?” He yelled pulling down his bottoms and yanking me to the edge of the bed ripping my clothes off. 

“I-I just asked a question about the homework” I responded with a shaky voice. I yelled as he rammed into me. Wrapping his hands around my neck he started choking me.

 “What - did - I - say. You - are - mine - and- only - mine.” He said with every stroke tearing my insides.

 I felt my tears being wiped as I was pulled out of that horrible vision. Looking up to him , I smiled and pulled him into a hug and I felt safe in his arms. “Babe we really don’t have to go in” He whispered in my hair and kissed my forehead.

 “No Chris I have to overcome my fear one day,” I said looking up at him. “As long as I got you, I am safe,” I added pulling away from him and kissing his lips only for him to deepen the kiss. I did not care we were still standing at the gate entrance while people walk past us staring.

 “Woah woah,” My brother said making us pull apart. “Careful now before yall make Nola part 2" Chris and I looked at each other and busted out laughing. 

“What?” he asked looking baffled. 

“Nothing,” We said and I pulled away from Chris and hugged my brother. While Chris and him shared a bro hug.

“I never thought I would see you here,” He said.

‘’Neither did I, but this fool here picked up the phone and accepted the invite,’’ I said hitting Chris on the head. 

‘’Hey!’’ he yelled rubbing the back of his head.

‘’Where is Crystal?’’ I asked spotting she isn’t with him. 

‘’She should be here soon she forgot something in the c-’’ 

‘’Here baby’’ Crystal said linking her hands into his ‘’Hey guys’’ She said looking up at us. Chris and I greeted her in unison before we all started walking towards the house together. 

I squeezed Chris’s hand the closer and closer we got causing him to pull me close and kiss my forehead.

Chapter 18

Nina

I woke up unaware of my surroundings. Trying to get up, I found myself strapped in what seemed like and operation bed. “Hello!” I yelled. “Somebody anybody! Help!”

“Chris?” I said in a small voice.

“Ah, Mrs. Carter you are awake,” A man in a white lab coat with two assistants said as they stepped forward.

‘’Where is Chris? Why am I strapped in?’’ I questioned trying to free myself. 

‘’Careful careful’’ The man rushed towards me stopping me from proceeding any further. 

‘’C-Ch-Chris where is he? Where is Chris?!’’ I yelled struggling to fight against them while the called in more men to hold me down. 

‘’Mrs. Cartar I need you to calm- 

‘’Sasha  where is Sasha?… I have to pick up my daughter’’ I added. 

“Your daughter is fine. She is with her father”. They said and my head began to spin and I began to remember the last words from Chris.

 “No no no please he can’t be with her.” I cried out pleading with the doctors and nurses in the room.

 “Why is that?” The doctors asked looking concerned.

 “B-because he is not stable.” I stuttered

‘’Well he looks capable to me and Mrs. Carter may I remind you that you are the one in a mental institution.“ He stated. 

“What!” 

Chris 

“Sasha!” I yelled as she ran towards me and into my arms as I picked her up from her grandma’s house. 

“Daddy!” She yelled. Kissing her all over her face. I held on to her tight for my dare life. Before placing her down and examining her to make sure she is ok since I left her with Nina.

 "Daddy are you ok ?“ She asked placing her to hands on my face. 

"Yes, baby girl I’m fine? Are you?… I mean are you hurt anywhere?"I ask continuing with my checks. 

"I’m fine daddy” She laughed walking into my hands hugging me. “Ready to go?” I asked getting on my feet and grabbing her hand as she nods in response. I greeted my mom and thanked her before heading out.

Once I  strapped  Sasha in safely, I got into the driver’s side and began to drive down the street constantly looking at Sasha wondering how I would tell her we are going to call somewhere else home. “Er baby girl, I said looking at the review mirror and then back at the road ahead again. 

’‘Yes daddy” She responded smiling and swinging her legs making me smile. 

“Mommy has to go away for some time to get better ok and we are moving to a new place with some good people,” I said looking at the review mirror briefly. 

“Okay daddy” She responded cheerfully as she carried on living out her imagination.

Pulling up at Ashley’s house I got out and helped Nola out. She grabbed on to my hand and stood beside me as we walked towards the main door. ‘’Hey baby’’ I said walking into the house as Ashely opened the door before I could even ring the bell. 

‘’Hey baby’’ She responded giving me a quick kiss before pulling away and raising her brow. ‘’And who is this lil princess’’ She asked squatting down and looking behind me.

I was surprised when Sasha came out running into Ashely’s arms and they hugged like this is not their first meeting. 

‘’How are you doing miss?’’ Sasha said hugging her tightly. 

‘’I’m  Ok and you princess’’ she said picking her up and walking away but not leaving without the we need to talk look. 

Sliding down the wall with my head in my hands. I yelled. I don’t know when all this will end. it seems like I’m in a recurring motion. All this happening with Nina and I is the same thing which happened with Alex and I

Chapter 17

Ashely 

‘’Baby are you sure you want to do that? I asked shocked. ‘’ Have you thought this through?’’ I added walking up to him in complete disbelief, not caring about my nakedness. This is not just a walk in the park but a serious matter. 

‘’Yes baby, after all, she has done I can’t let her poison my daughter’s mind’’ He said getting up with so much venom.

“Ok wait wait,” I said while getting my bathrobe. I could tell that this is going to be a serious topic. “But Chris you going to be taking all she has left can you please think it through before taking this step?” I questioned grabbing a hold of both his arms

“Ashely there is nothing to think about I know for sure Nina is going to be a bad influence for Sasha.” He responded pulling my arms off him and walking away. 

‘’So you are saying that if I was in her position you would take Nola away from me?’’ I questioned trying to make sense of it all. 

‘’Don’t put it like that’’ He replied stopping in his tracks. 

‘’Well that is what you are saying although Nina has her flaws that’s her Child’’ I said walking past him and out the bathroom to see Nola fast asleep on my bed. I grabbed the remote and turned off the TV before rushing off to my closet to find something to wear today. I don’t know why but I am not happy with what Chris is proposing. That is her child as much as she is his. 

‘’Look I am not trying to argue with you that is my decision and it is final’’ He said walking out of the bathroom. 

‘’ Baby you know I will support you in whatever but not in what is wrong. Now if you are talking about joint custody I would understand but you want to take Sasha away from her mother. Have you even thought of Sasha and how she would be affected by this?’’ I questioned and he looked taking aback. 

All this will not only affect you both but it will affect Sasha most and that is where I am looking at all of this from’’ I explained. ‘’ I suggest you talk to Nina about everything before making any decision’’ I added walking away from him fully dressed and in the direction of Nola. ‘’Hey baby’’ I said shaking her a bit urging her to wake up. 

‘’Wake up baby girl’’ I added tickling her causing her to start smiling and laughing. Leaning down I kissed her repeatedly making her smile grow wider. ‘’let’s get ready ok’’ I said picking her up and walking past Chris and to her room for her bath. 

Once dressed and ready, I made her breakfast to go as we don’t have that much time left. Just at the nick of time, Micheal knocked on the door and I quickly said my goodbyes to Chris  and went out with Nola.

Arriving at Nola’s daycare, I insisted on dropping her myself, this time, around as Michael alway drops her for me. As we got out of the car, “Sasha!” Nola screamed before running off to the individual while I got her things. 

Upon turning around, I froze as I spot Nina with Nola and a little girl. I'm guessing that is Sasha a-and Chris’s daughter. “Hey Sasha this is my mommy” Nola said as I got closer to her causing Sasha and her mother to turn around. 

As Nina and I made eye contact her smile faded and I could see the shock on her face as her mood changed. “Hey Sasha” I said taking my eyes off her mother and getting to her level and greeting her. “I have heard so much bout you” I said making her smile. 

“Really?” She asked and I nodded my head. “Your friend here would not stop talking about you” I said and she smiled. 

‘’Well it was nice meeting you. Now off you go you two we don’t want you to be late’’ I said referring to Nina and I while I was getting up to my feet. I watch them run in hand in hand making me smile. 

‘’I bet you are happy with yourself’’ Nina spoke as I was about to walk away stopping me on my tracks. 

‘’And why will I be happy?“ I asked curiously  walking up to her. 

‘’Well you took my family, you took everything away from me’’. She semi yelled. 

‘’Excuse me?’’ I asked confused. ‘’That precious little girl that was here. Is she not your everything? I asked. Do you really need a man that bad that you can’t stand on your own two feet?”

 ‘’Here I am fighting for you and you’’ I chuckled. ‘’You are here being bitter about  a man who never wanted you.’’ I said about to walk away but I stopped and turned back around. 

‘’It’s funny how you are here acussing me about taking everything away from you when in actuall fact you took everying away from me. You did not waste time when I left to get your hands on him. You deleted my messages and my number from his phone. You tried to replace me and even got pregnant just so you can keep him. And guess what? I made no fuss. I lived thinking that the person I loved did not actully love me and it was all a joke and focused on myself and my child and raised her up to be the bright girl she is today while you played house with someone that doesn’t love you and you think you have the right to question me about I happy that I broke your imagination of a home?’’ I laughed. 

“I did not go to Chris searching for him. He found me and has been on my neck to be his again and guess what I was fighting for you saying you are with Nina  and you have a family with her.’‘

‘’Now for the sake of your daughter stop being bitter and get a life and make her proud to call you her mother because as of  now with your attitude to life, you are anything but.’’ I added before walking away and getting into my car.

Nina

‘’Arghhh’’ I screamed on  top of my lungs as soon as i stepped into my house. ‘’Who the fuck does she think she is?!’’ I yelled in frustration. I began to pace up and down as her words keep playing repeatedly on my mind like a broken record. 

‘’It’s funny how you are here accusing me of taking everything away from you when in actual fact you took everything away from me. You did not waste time when I left to get your hands on him.’’

Grabbing the bottled of wine in my hand, I smashed the mirror in front of me. I began to destroy everything. I tore the sofas with knives, smashed the counters with hammers, ripped stuff off the wall. I destroyed everything.

‘’Why can’t you love me?!’’ I yelled collapsing in my own mess.

‘’Nina?!’’ I heard then felt myself being lifted off the floor. ‘’Nina wake up, please wake up.’’ I heard as I felt water being splashed on my face.

‘’Chris?’’ I muttered seeing his face blurred out as I struggled to open my eyes. ‘’Chris?! I knew you loved me. I knew you would  come back.’’ I said smiling and touching on his face. Only to get a rude awakening as he dropped me to the ground.

‘’Nina you are not ok’’ He said. Looking at me worried. 

‘’I’m fine I promise I  just want you to come back to me’’ I said reaching for his face again only for him to slap my hand away. 

‘’No you are not. Did you even think of Sasha?’’ Her coming back home from school and to this mess?’’He questioned looking around and I followed his gaze feeling light headed. 

‘’You know what fuck Ashley I am taking my child away from you” He said and I collapsed again.

Chapter 16

Nina

“Arghhhhhh!” I yelled wiping off everything off the kitchen counter with both hands. I decided to come home last night once I calmed down at Kelly’s. On my way home I thought everything over and decided not to take any action but talk to the guy I have spent 3 years with only to find the house empty.

I know he doesn’t love me so I’m not going to try and humiliate myself. I can’t help but blame myself for this. I saw the signs every day for the last 3 years. I just choose to ignore it. I know he tried to love me but he couldn’t.

I’m such a fool! I yelled falling onto the marble kitchen floor with a bottle of wine in my hand. Taking a look around I noticed I have trashed the kitchen. With my hands in my head, I just let the tears fall. I’m so stupid!

“Mommy?” I heard Sasha’s sweet voice call from the middle of the stairs and my heart broke. I could not face her. I’m her mother I am a failure.

“Mommy” She repeated cupping my face in her tiny hands making me look up at her. I watched as she took a seat in front of me and hug me. “It’s ok mommy,” She said hugging me tight. 

“Everything is going to be ok” She added kissing my tears away. Finally looking up at her, I smiled a little pulling her into me and kissing her. 

Although, I felt safe, I began to feel sad not for me but for Sasha is Ashley going to rob her right to a happy home? I thought. 

Picking up Sasha, I placed her on the kitchen  counter. “Listen to me baby I won’t let anything happen to you ok,“ I said cupping her face in my hands. ’‘You are going to be ok” I muttered hugging her tight.

‘’You are going to be alright’’

Ashely 

I twisted and turned only to come face to face with Mr. Brown. “Good morning princess,” He said with his eyes still closed making me smile. His arm wrapped around my waist stopping me from getting out of bed. “Don’t leave” He muttered at the crook of my neck. 

I giggled.’’Chris I have got to wake up your daughter and get her ready for school,’’  I said trying to get out of his grip only for him to hold me tighter. “Christopherrr” I whined. 

“How about we all have a family day in” He suggested

“How about I’m a head of a company and I have no days off” I responded trying to get out his grip. “Don’t you know company heads run their business from Dubai, Thailand those exotic places.’’ He muttered in my ear. 

‘’Chri-’’ Nola cut me off by jumping in bed and separating Chris and I by getting in the middle. 

‘’Daddy!’’ She yelled.

’Yess!’’ I yelled in victory as I quickly got out of bed and rushed to the bathroom. I have already wasted time I’m already showered and ready by now. I do everything and at the speed of light.  

Standing in front of the mirror, I could not help but smile. Hearing Chris and Nola interact. Even though they just met they have a strong bond.

 Chris

 “And I made a friend called Sasha … and she allowed me to play with her big, big  purple teddy bear  her dad got for her,“ She said and my heart automatically stopped. 

Sasha my baby girl. It’s not that I have forgotten about her. Her and Nola are the first thing on my mind. But I completely forgot how her mother’s action could affect her. I need to speak to Ashley about this and now. I thought.

 There is one thing I don’t mess about and that is my seed and my woman. "I will be right back baby girl,” I said interrupting Nola on telling me her first day at school. Jumping out of the bed I headed towards the bathroom.

 "Hey Ash! I need to talk to you quickly" I said walking in and seating on the toilet seat while I could see her shadow reflecting through the transparent curtains. I found it hard to focus on the task at hand. Oh, how I miss waking up to seeing this body frame every day.

 "What is it about?“ She questioned softly while washing the shampoo of  her hair.

 "Sasha” I replied simply.

 "What about her?“ She asked switching off the water instantly and getting out of the bath.

 "I’m thinking of getting full custardy.”

Chapter 13

Ashley 

I smiled placing my hand in his as he helped me out of the car. ‘’Thanks, Mychal’’ I said once I got out. I froze as I turned around coming face to face with my worst nightmare. I have been on the road with my team going from one school to another for the past 12 weeks since we have launched our outreach program. I have been pushing this particular school back for weeks by telling my team I want to visit it later, but I figure if I keep pushing it back they will start to get suspicious. 

‘’Ashley are you OK? Mychal asked walking back to me. I hadn’t realized I have been in the same spot right next to the car while my team is at the school’s entrance 

It is time to face the music I said to myself. 

‘’Yeah, yeah’’ I said looking up at Mychal. Mychal Kendricks is an athlete a football player I think. I am not much really into sports but the day my brother came to visit, I had a meeting shortly after he left. He wanted us to help him create his personal advert for his brand. During the process of helping him, he heard about our outreach program and instantly wanted to jump on board. He said something about always wanting to give back and stuff. But I am not going to lie me and him have engaged in harmless flirtation. An eye candy on this trip never hurt anybody. 

I smiled grabbing his outstretched hand and entwined our hands together. Oh boy, let the drama begin. I muttered as we walked towards the college. Once in, I began to have flashbacks of the first time I stepped into this building. Nothing has changed, and I think that is the locker Chris, and I almost had sex in. I chuckled thinking of that day. 

I watched as we were approached by a group of students who I guess were assigned to help us by welcoming and directing my team to the hall, and one of the girls led me to the principal’s office. ‘’Thank you darling’’ I said grabbing on the handle before walking in stopping in my tracks. 

‘’Ashley??’’ Chris questioned standing up. 

‘’Ah Miss Parks I see you two know each other’’ The principle said getting up and walking up to me with an outstretched hand waiting for me to shake. I smiled at him shaking his hand. 

‘’Good morning Mr. Adams. I said feeling eyes burning holes at the side of my head. 

‘’Well I guess that you and Mr. Brown are well acquitted he will be your tour guide this morning showing you our facilities and what we have to offer’’ He said smiling. 

‘’No problem. I said looking over to Chris. Mr. Brown are you ready?’’ I asked. Once I am in my professional mode, all personal things are thrown out the window. I watched him nod and lead the way. ‘’See you at the assembly Mr. Adams’’ I smiled before following suit. 

‘’What the fuck are you doing here Ashley?’’ Chris gritted. 

‘’Now Mr. Brown that is no way to treat your guest is it?’’ 

 Chris 

 I haven’t seen Ashely since the day she told me to leave and handed me a bloody piece of paper she calls a timetable. I have followed suit showing up on time to see my daughter but every time I go there she leaves so we haven’t had a chance to talk, and now she is here out of the blue knowing Nina is here too?

 “Hey, Ash everything is all set up do you want to see?” A familiar guy said grabbing her hand and leading her to the auditorium. 

“Thank you for the tour Mr. Brown” Before wrapping her arm around him. I instantly felt my body temperature rising. I wanted to kill them both. As I was about to follow them, the bell rang indicating lunch time, and kids started swarming the halls like bees.

 "Hey handsome why are you standing there looking confused?“ Nina asked coming out of nowhere.

 "Ermm. Nothing baby” I said wrapping my arm around her and walking in opposite direction from where Ashley went. “What do you want?“’ I asked smiling at her. 

‘’Well I thought that we could go out for lunch today’’ She said, and my soul leaped for joy. 

‘’S-Sure baby’’ I smiled, I need to get her far away from here as possible. As I was about to open the passenger side door for Nina, we both stopped in our tracks as we heard her name being called. 

What now.

‘’Hey Nina where are you going?’’ Nina’s friend Lisa asked. “Hi Chris” She waved once she saw me. I just sent her a fake smile and nodded.

 “Chris and I are just going for lunch,” Nina replied.

 “Why there is someone influential coming, and she is giving a speech  to the whole school after lunch today. Her story is amazing I mean she went from nothing to being a director and now the CEO of one of the biggest media company in the world and do you know she has a kid, and she still managed to achieve all this. Wow, what a great inspiration.” Lisa said smiling. I was even impressed did not know Ashely made all this and being a single mother at that.

 “That’s my baby,” I muttered smiling. 

“What’s that baby?” Nina asked.

 “Huh?- Oh sorry, Lisa we would not be going to assemble we are having -” 

“No baby it’s fine. I want to meet this woman she sounds amazing… we could have lunch here.” Nina said.

 “But-”

“The food are even cheaper here.” She said kissing me and walking off with Lisa. Think. Think. I began to say to myself as I pace the parking lot. I need to find a way to keep Nina from seeing Ashely.

 “Got it!” I yelled to myself like a madman and rushed back to the school to find Nina with the teachers in the dining hall. 

“Hey babe, ” I said smiling and sitting next to her.

 “Aww look at the love birds.” one of the staff members said, and we just sent him a smile. I moved closer to Nina and began to whisper things in her ear. I smiled when she began to get uncomfortable

 “Chris stop we are at work.” She said breathing heavily and biting her bottom lip.

 “You know everyone will be at this meeting how about we go to my classroom and … I slide my hand up her skirt causing her to jump up and me to chuckle. 

“Are you ok Nina?” One of the teachers asked sounding concerned. “Y-Yeah I am fine just need to use the ladies.” She responded rushing out, and I struggled to hold my laugh. I chilled with the team for a little bit before excusing myself. I mean I did not want to make it look too obvious. 

As I got to my office, Nina pulled me in,  pinning me against the wall and  crashing her lips on mine. 

Ashely

 I revived a standing ovation after my speech and presentation. Haven spoken to some of the students after my team informed me it is time to go.

 "One min I will be right back,” I said as we got to the exit. “I will meet you at the car,” I said before heading back. I quickly went to Chris’s classroom I think this  is still in his room I said to myself before twisting the knob and walking in.

 "Chris we need -“ I said walking in not looking up but at my phone and stopped mid sentence when I heard moaning. I looked up and froze locking eyes with Nina and then Chris.

 "Omg, I am so sorry,” I said feeling my eyes begin to water and a tear drop. I quickly took off running with Chris calling and chasing after me.

‘’Drive! ’’ I yelled once I got into the car.

Chapter 13

Ashley 

I smiled placing my hand in his has he helped me out of the car. ‘’Thanks, Mychal’’ I said once I got out. I froze as I turned around coming face to face with my worst nightmare. I have been on the road with my team going from one school to another for the past 12 weeks since we have launched our outreach program. I have been pushing this particular school back for weeks by telling my team I want to visit it later, but I figure if I keep pushing it back they will start to get suspicious. 

‘’Ashley are you OK? Mychal asked walking back to me. I hadn’t realized I have been in the same spot right next to the car while my team is at the school’s entrance 

It is time to face the music I said to myself. 

‘’Yeah, yeah’’ I said looking up at Mychal. Mychal Kendricks is an athlete a football player I think. I am not much really into sports but the day my brother came to visit, I had a meeting shortly after he left. He wanted us to help him create his personal advert for his brand. During the process of helping him, he heard about our outreach program and instantly wanted to jump on board. He said something about always wanting to give back and stuff. But I am not going to lie me and him have engaged in harmless flirtation. An eye candy on this trip never hurt anybody. 

I smiled grabbing his outstretched hand and entwined our hands together. Oh boy, let the drama begin. I muttered as we walked towards the college. Once in, I began to have flashbacks of the first time I stepped into this building. Nothing has changed, and I think that is the locker Chris, and I almost had sex in. I chuckled thinking of that day. 

I watched as we were approached by a group of students who I guess were assigned to help us by welcoming and directing my team to the hall, and one of the girls led me to the principal’s office. ‘’Thank you darling’’ I said grabbing on the handle before walking in stopping in my tracks. 

‘’Ashley??’’ Chris questioned standing up. 

‘’Ah Miss Parks I see you two know each other’’ The principle said getting up and walking up to me with an outstretched hand waiting for me to shake. I smiled at him shaking his hand. 

‘’Good morning Mr. Adams. I said feeling eyes burning holes at the side of my head. 

‘’Well I guess that you and Mr. Brown are well acquitted he will be your tour guide this morning showing you our facilities and what we have to offer’’ He said smiling. 

‘’No problem. I said looking over to Chris. Mr. Brown are you ready?’’ I asked. Once I am in my professional mode, all personal things are thrown out the window. I watched him nod and lead the way. ‘’See you at the assembly Mr. Adams’’ I smiled before following suit. 

‘’What the fuck are you doing here Ashley?’’ Chris gritted. 

‘’Now Mr. Brown that is no way to treat your guest is it?’’ 

 Chris 

 I haven’t seen Ashely since the day she told me to leave and handed me a bloody piece of paper she calls a timetable. I have followed suit showing up on time to see my daughter but every time I go there she leaves so we haven’t had a chance to talk, and now she is here out of the blue knowing Nina is here too?

 “Hey, Ash everything is all set up do you want to see?” A familiar guy said grabbing her hand and leading her to the auditorium. 

“Thank you for the tour Mr. Brown” Before wrapping her arm around him. I instantly felt my body temperature rising. I wanted to kill them both. As I was about to follow them, the bell rang indicating lunch time, and kids started swarming the halls like bees.

 "Hey handsome why are you standing there looking confused?“ Nina asked coming out of nowhere.

 "Ermm. Nothing baby” I said wrapping my arm around her and walking in opposite direction from where Ashley went. “What do you want?“’ I asked smiling at her. 

‘’Well I thought that we could go out for lunch today’’ She said, and my soul leaped for joy. 

‘’S-Sure baby’’ I smiled, I need to get her far away from here as possible. As I was about to open the passenger side door for Nina, we both stopped in our tracks as we heard her name being called. 

What now.

Chapter 10

Nina

I smiled knowing Chris wants me. I grabbed my phone out and called Sean, ‘’Hello cancel the investigation’’.

‘’Are you sure.“

‘’Yea,’’ I said grinning.

‘’Ok madam’’ He responded as a smile crept on my face. My baby still wants me. I whispered, I stepped out of the closet and instantly bumped into Chris’s mom.

‘’Omg, I am so sorry mama’’. I said

‘’Child what were you doing in that closet?’’ She asked raising her brows. Mama J and I have come a long way from hate to kind of love we still have a long way to go, but I could say we are both trying. I will say our relationship would never have been like this if not for Sasha. Everyone in this family was so far up Ashely’s ass some still are but it was not as bad as it was before Sasha was born.

‘’What were you doing in the closet?’’ Mama J asked again bringing me out of my trance 

‘’It’s your son mama,’’ I responded smiling.

‘’I hope yall are not thinking to make a number 2 in my damn house… Yall got me fucked up,’’. She said, and I started laughing.

‘’Nah mama he just wanted to talk”.I said.

‘’Mhm… Talk. I know my son’’. She said shaking her head. ‘’Come on let’s go and make lunch for my grandchild’’. She said walking way, and I followed as we made our way to the kitchen. I swear I did not know how to cook until mama taught me now I can say I’m a pro.

Once we finished making lunch, I set the table, and I gathered all the kids. Mama decided to adopt two children Adian and Sam she feels it’s time to give back and share her knowledge with the next generation which I respect. Her motto is if you can help the one you can help thousands.

‘’Mommy where is daddy?’’ Sasha asked digging into her lunch.

‘’He just went home sweetie’’. I said rubbing her head.

‘’Oh ok’’. She said with a sad facial expression and started playing with her food.

‘’Do you want me to call him?’’ I asked.

‘’It’s Ok mommy’’. She responded.

‘’Ok how about this once you finish your lunch we go and get ice cream then go home to daddy?’’ I said, and a smile popped up n her face as she started eating causing me to shake my head. Her love for Chris surpasses anything, and the feeling is mutual.  

Chris

I know I look like a fool right now seating in front of Ashely’s house. I am not trying to harass her like or anything but since laying my eyes on her, she consumes my mind. I can’t get her off my mind.

I watched as she pulled up into her driveway instantly rolling her eyes. “Chrissss,’’ she whined walking up to me.  Just like the way she did when we were together and when she wants something and I always gave in.

I quickly sat up coming face to face with her. Without thinking, I pulled her into me and kissed her. Not thinking about the public setting, I just kissed her and was surprised when she kissed me back instantly. I smiled and kissed her even harder with so much passion.

“Chris stop you are with someone else.” She said backing off me.

“Ash- ’‘

’'Chris I got to go”. She said walking away and into her apartment before I could say anything else.  Just as I was about to leave, I saw a car pull up, and Nola jumps out of the car running up to me.  I quickly squat down and pick her up spinning her around. I don’t know what is but Nola, and I have this instant connection.

“Daddy I missed you so much.” She said hugging me tight.

“Miss you too sugar plum,” I said as a tear fell from my eyes. I can’t believe I missed out of her life. I should have been there throughout the pregnancy; I should have been there to hear her first cry, her first step,  we all should be in that house hugged up like a big happy family.

‘’Let’s go in daddy’’ Nola said breaking my trance. As I took a step towards Ashely’s door, it instantly opened, and my jaw dropped to see Ashley in just a silk robe. She looked down and blushed as my eyes roam all over her body. Our eyes meet, and it just felt like the world stood still.

‘’Daddy let’s go inside,’’ Nola said pulling on my shirt.

‘’E-Erm daddy got to go I will be back tomorrow ok and spend the whole day with you,’’ I said handing her to Ashely but she would not let me go.

‘’Daddy, please read me a bedtime story’’ She said yawning and placing her head on my shoulder. I looked at Ashley for the seal of approval. She stepped aside inviting me in. I gave her a weak smile as I stepped in with Nola and headed straight upstairs to her room.

‘’Are you ready to have a bath?’’ I asked.

‘’Yes but mommy has to do it,’’ she responded.

‘’Why mommy? I can do it.’’ I said pouting.

‘’Because I am a girl, and you are a boy,’’ She responded causing me to chuckle.

‘’Now keep that logic for the rest of your life ok don’t let nobody see you naked,’’ I said using this opportunity to make her celibate until she is 60 years old.

‘’Ok daddy’’. She said hugging me.

‘’Promise,’’ I asked once we pulled out of our hug.

‘’ I promise’’ She said pulling out her pinky and I entwined mine with hers.

‘’OK let me get mommy so you can have a shower’’. I said getting up as soon as I turned around I saw Ashley at the door wiping her tears away. I don’t know how long she has been there probably the whole time. I walked up to her and wiped her tears As I was about to go Nola called my name.

‘’Daddy don’t forget my bedtime story.’’ She said.

‘’I will be downstairs baby call me when you are done’’. I said before se going downstairs.

Nina

I looked at the time on the bedside table. Another all nighter I signed before taking a step in the mirror. I stared at myself in nothing but a sexy lingering on. I left Sasha at her grandma’s house since she insisted she wants to stay thinking Chris was home, but when I got home, he was nowhere to be seen. So I thought I would go out and get my man something sexy. I got home got dressed up and set the scene. Dimmed the lights and light candles, petals and all of that but he is nowhere to be seen. 

I grabbed my phone and called Chris’s sister. I know he hasn’t seen his sister in years, but he is spending so much time there. 

‘’Hello,’’ she said

‘’Hey my name is Nina I am Chris’s girlfriend.’’. I said introducing myself because I don’t think we have been introduced properly. 

‘’Oh hi,“ she said. 

’‘Erm is Chris there?” I asked. 

“-”. 

“I mean he said he has been coming to yours for the last few weeks”. I said cutting her off before she was even able to speak. 

“Yea he is just passed out on the sofa I didn’t want to disturb him. He has been helping us settle in and around the house and also with the kids she said making me breathe a sigh of relief. ’'I will wake him up and send him your way ok. 

’'Oh no no can he stay the night I know he must be tired and won’t be able to drive,” I said. 

“Oh ok no problem hun” She said. 

“OK good night” I said smiling. 

“Night hun sleep tight she responded before hanging up. 

Chris 

I smiled watching Nola sleep peacefully like all is right in the world. I grabbed my phone to take a picture of her, but I stopped myself thinking of Nina and Sasha. 

As I was about to place my phone in back in my pocket, I received a text from my sister telling me everything Nina said to her. I smiled deleting the text before getting up in search of Ashley.  I jogged down the stairs to see her crying in the kitchen.

‘’Hey’’’. I said walking up to her. 

‘’Hey,’’ she said weakly.

‘’Nola is asleep’’.I said seating down in front of her. 

‘’Thank you’’ She whispered loud enough for me to hear. 

‘’What is that’’ I asked looking down at the piece of paper. 

‘’Your timetable’’. She responded. 

‘’My what?’’ 

‘’Chris you have a family’’. She said 

‘’Yes with you.’' 

‘’Christopher you have another daughter and you are always here. You need to spend time with her. I created a timetable so you can be able to spend time with both girls she said sliding the timetable to me. 

I scoffed taking a look at the paper. ‘’I can spend time with my daughters when I want I don’t know why I need a timetable I will-’’ I stopped when I saw teardrops falling on the kitchen counter top. I instantly got up and walked my way around the table wrapping my arms around Ashley’s waist. ‘’You got to stop crying ma,’’ I whispered in her ear before I started kissing her from her neck down.

‘’C-Chris stop.’’ She moaned. 

‘’Do you want me to stop?’’ I asked turning her around undoing her robe. I bite my bottom lip as I stared at her naked body. I can’t believe she had a kid three years ago, and she hasn’t changed everything looks right. 

Looking up at her, I could see nothing but lust in her eyes she wanted me as bad as I wanted her. I grabbed her hand and led her to the sofa.

Chris 

Nina wrapped her hand around me from behind, and I instantly felt disgusted. ‘’Hey baby.’’ She said kissing the back of my neck as she held on to me tight. 

‘’Hey baby,’’ I responded turning around and planting a kiss on her lips. 

‘’What time did you get home last night?’’ She asked.

‘’5′’ I responded plainly. 

‘’What were you doing out that late. You are never home that late and I did not even get to see you at work. Are you OK? She asked. 

‘’Yea I’m fine just helped out one of my family members and lost track of time,’’ I responded 

‘’Wh-’’ I planted a kiss on her lips before she could utter another word because I know where this is going. 

‘’I promise I will never be this late again’’. I said pulling away from the kiss. 

‘’Ok baby I trust you,’’ She replied before pulling away from my embrace. ‘’ I will go and get Sasha she wants to go to your mom’s house’’ She said, and I just nodded in response. 

‘’I am going to spend time with my sis!’’. I shouted up the stairs as she went up. 

‘’Ok!’’ She yelled back and with that, I grabbed my protein shake and headed out. I got into my car and headed straight to Ashley’s house. Once I got to her house, I parked my car at a distance before getting out and heading straight to her door. I scoffed thinking about this morning it took everything in me to strangle Nina the phrase sleeping with the enemy could not be more accurate in this situation. But I just can’t just do things without thinking especially my baby girl involved.  I got pulled out my thought when Ashley opened the door.

‘’Where are you going?’’ I asked looking at her attire. 

‘’Out with the girls. I called everyone and told them I am back’’. She responded. 

‘’Where is Nola?’’ I asked looking inside. 

‘’She is out with her friends family they are going to the zoo today’’. She responded while she stepped out and locked her door before walking away from me and to her car. 

‘’Ash-’’ 

‘’Chris what are you doing here you should be with Nina.’’ She spat. 

‘’You know what Nina has done and how she separated  us. Why would I want to be with her?’’ I questioned, and she looked away. 

‘’Chris, please try and understand, I just see history repeating itself I keep taking you away when you are meant to be in a relationship. Did you know what happened to Ale-’’? 

‘’Hey, Hey I cut her off pulling her closer. ‘’ That was not your fault she committed suicide’’ I said wiping her tears. 

‘’Chris I got to go.’’ She said pulling away from me and getting into her car before driving off. 

I sigh as I watch her drive off before heading to my car and heading to my mama’s house.

Ashley 

I pulled myself together before getting out if the vehicle. I mean why does Chris want to do this to me he is in a relationship why can’t he leave me alone. Messaging, calling, showing up at my house and much more. 

‘’Aaaaaaaa’’ The girls screamed once they spotted me. Putting up a smile, I ran towards their section and embraced them. You have no idea how much I have missed these girls although I have always kept in touch with them, and they know any and everything about anything  about me  vice versa. 

“Omg when did you get here?” Sandra asked. 

“A month ago.” I murmured. 

“What!” Sandra yelled. “Why did you not call us?” She asked.  With a sigh, I began to tell them everything about my encounter with Chris while the waiter came to take our orders. 

‘’Girl you know Chris loves you,’’ Avery said smiling. 

‘’I know but do you guys remember what happened to Alex I am not going to let that happen to Nina’’. I said 

‘’Will you stop beating yourself up already’’ Sandra said as the waiter brought our food over. I looked over and smiled at Crystal, who has her eyes fixed on our server. I could not help but giggle and shake my head. 

‘’You know what enough about me how are you guys? I asked. 

Chris 

‘’Baby what are you doing’’. Nina asked as I pulled her into one the closet and instantly kissed her biting and pulled on her lips. Every since the incident with Ashley I need something to take the pain away and well Nina is the next best thing. 

“Shh” I muttered.  ’‘live a little’’. I said kissing from her neck down,  

“Baby we can’t do this here,” Nina said between kisses. “We are at your mom’s house.”  Ignoring her, I picked her up, and she immediately wrapped her legs around my waist. 

“Baby stop!” Nina yelled pushing me off her. Taking one look at her, I stormed out of the closet and out of my mom’s house.

Chapter 8

Chris 

So many thoughts running through my mind that I had to come to the beach just to clear it. But even the place which calmed my soul, I felt my anger brew for Nina. This is all her fault. Don’t get me wrong; I love the child that we made together. Sasha is my world but her mother. Her mother omg she was created by the devil to destroy my life. I just cannot get over the fact that she took advantage of me at my weakest point. She knew how much I loved Ashley, and she did everything in her power to split us up. I scoffed. I would not be surprised if she had anything with Ashley leaving.

I just want to kick her out. I just want t- I stopped myself knowing this is not me. She is making me step out of my character. I need to make her pay. I need to make her suffer. I need a plan… I felt an arm gently touch my shoulders, and I instantly calmed down.

‘’Hey’’. Ashley said taking me by surprise. How did she know I was here? ‘’You know I know your favorite spot right’’ she asked reading my mind as always before taking a seat next to me.

‘’I need to find a new thinking spot then’’. I responded with a light chuckle only to see her smile nervously and look ahead towards the sea.

‘’Erm I just wanted to see if you were Ok I know that most have been a lot for you to take in one day’’. She said looking towards me and instantly just like always, my heart melts all the anger I once had vanished. And this is why I fell in love with her all I have to do is look at her and all is right in the world. ‘’Listen I know you are with Nina…’’ Just the sound of her name brought the anger all back, and I looked away. ‘’ …and I don’t want to cause any trouble between you two as I know you both have a child together, so I respect your relationship’’. I had to laugh if only Nina could have been like this from the beginning but no she wanted someone who is already taken. ‘’ What are you laughing at?’’ Ashely said pushing. ‘’I’m trying to be grown and have a grow ass conversation with you’’. She said with a straight face, and we both busted out laughing.

‘’Man you don’t know how much I missed this’’. I said trying to contain my laughter.

‘’Me too.’’ She responded and we both stared at each other. The next thing I know, our lips locked and we kissed with so much passion like we haven’t kissed each other for three years, and we have been dreaming about this day all day long. How our lips taste.

N-No Chris, she said pulling away we can’t do this’’ She said. ‘’Y-Y have a family’’. She added looking down.

‘’I have a family with you too’’ I responded.

‘’I am not Nina Chris I respect you guys relationship.’’ She said getting up ‘’I have to go ‘’ She said walking away but I quickly grabbed her hand and stood up.

‘’Do you know how every single day I have spent with Nina I only thought about you and this very moment where we meet again’’. I said not breaking eye contact. ‘’Ashley you and I are meant to be together no matter what and I am not giving up on us… Yes, I have a kid with Nina, but it was not planned she broke the condom, but I don’t care for her the way I care for you. The only thing I care for is the precious daughter I have with her and that the only real thing I got from her but Ashley you are wife the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with.’’I said as I wiped the tears falling from her eyes. I kissed long and hard before letting go.

‘’I can’t believe you are right here?’’. I said staring at her as she remains speechless.

‘’I-I don’t know what to say’’. She said looking up at me.

‘’How about that family night Nola requested’’. I said. I missed three years of my daughter’s life it is about time I caught up’’. I said and smiled causing me to smile. I never want to see the love of my life sad. 

‘’Ok but we got to pick her from her friend’s house first’’. She said as I wrapped my arms around her and we walked off the beach.

I watched as got out of the car to get Nola. I could not help but smile to see both Nola and Ashley interact as they walked towards the car. Nola smile widened once she saw me.Even with me not being there for three years she has accepted me instantly the bond of parents to their children is really strong. 

‘’Hey daddy!’’. She screamed with joy once she got into the car

‘’Hey baby you ready to see this movie’’. I asked her once she strapped in her seat. 

‘’Yess’’, she screamed with excitement.

‘’Ok you are the queen today, and you get to pick whatever movie you want’’. I said, and she smiled. 

I looked over to Ash, who had tears falling her face as she was driving. ‘’Ashley baby’’. I said grabbing her hand. ‘’Why are you crying’’. I asked. 

‘’It’s just that this would have been our fate, but everything is messed up now’’. She responded pulling the car to a halt. 

‘’You know what let me drive, and we will talk about this later’’. I said getting out of the car and rushing to the other side to help her. I held her close as we walked to the passenger side before letting her slowly in. I rushed to the other side and drove off to the cinema. 

Nina 

I rolled over to the other side of the bed to pick up my ringing phone. ‘’Hey’’. I said in a sleepy voice. 

‘’Hey girl where is Chris?’’. Kelly asked, and I instantly sat up. 

‘’What do you mean? Is he alright? Did anything happen to him?’’. I questioned looking around my room. 

‘’ He is fine, but I just saw swap passenger seats with a girl that is not you’’, She said and my heart sunk.

‘’What!’’ I screamed. 

‘’Yes girl I could not see her face properly but I was just heading home when I saw them’’. She responded. 

‘’Um let me call you later’’. I said getting out of the bed. I quickly dialed his number but no answer. No, she must have been mistaken it can’t be Chris can it? We have been together for years, and he hasn’t even looked at another girl. 

I left my room and went to Sasha’s room to see her fast asleep that is when I looked at the time. It’s 12 am. Is Kelly right? Has he found another girl? I slide down the wall staring at Sasha as so many questions bombarded my mind. 

Just as I was drowning in my sorrows, it was like a light bulb went off, and I got an idea. I quickly grabbed my phone and dialed his number. 

‘’Hello.’’

Ashley

I leaned on the kitchen counter but could not stop staring at Nola and Chris as they interact. I laughed a lil at the faces he made to her making her smile. Since we came back from the cinema, we have just been hanging around and having fun. Nola even convinced us into watching Lion king. 

I felt my tears being wiped away pulling me out of my trance. ‘’Hey stop that,’’ Chris said wiping my tears. “I have taken Nola to bed”. He said, and I smiled. “Now stop crying”. He added kissing my forehead. 

“I can’t I responded wiping the tears from my eyes. I glanced at the kitchen clock, and it was just like I was pulled out of fantasy land and back into to reality. This right here is not real. We can’t be the perfect family when he has a whole other family. ’‘I can’t”. I responded taking my eyes off the clock which read 3 am and focusing them back on him. 

“You can’t what?” He asked confused looking at me. 

“I- we can’t do this not again”. I said walking past him and heading towards my door. I opened the door for him and motioned for him to leave.

 ’'What?“ She yelled shocked. 

’'You have a family now Christopher everything is completely different now, and I am not trying to ruin that you can see Nola, but nothing can happen between us I-I messed that up,’' I said looking down. 

’'Ash-”

“Chris it’s 3 am Nina must be worried sick,” I said, and he looked at me in defeat before walking out. I instantly shut the door behind him, slide down to the ground and  cried. 

This is all my fault. If I had just stayed instead of run, this would be whole different story. 

“Fuck!”. I yelled hitting the door.
