I know you will, Mady. No, Hugo learned that all on his own– he’s a strong kid, he’s gone through so much. He watched me get sick and barely survive, he witnessed our mother leaving us– now he’s watching our father slowly waste away. He’s stronger than I am.

I’m getting better. I haven’t been seeing any new patients that aren’t from my faction since I had to stop treating Ainsworth.

He may have learned that from past experiences, but younger brothers often follow the lead of their older siblings. You’re undercutting your own strength, Fiora, and I know Hugo would beg to differ on your opinion. He’s always thought so incredibly highly of you.

I don’t know if I want to or not, because once I start talking about my fears or the things I’m feeling, then I won’t stop and that won’t help me in this moment. I have too many people I care for, and you know the odds of people surviving in a city like this on a normal day– factor in a catastrophe? I could very well lose someone today, and I can’t delve into those thoughts.

It’s all the public ever sees. Not an uncommon observation.

Venturing into the unknown isn’t the easiest path, I even find myself grappling with the dark spiral of worrying, but I would rather unlock what could potentially fester inside of me than allow those thoughts to grow until I could stand it no longer. No, it might not help confirm your reassurances one hundred percent, but in a world with this expectation emotions should be bottled tightly, a listening ear doesn’t hurt.

I did, they don’t have contact with other zones to check. He’s a smart boy, he would have made it to safety in time, I just worry about him.

Hypothetically, wouldn’t be the violation of the doctor’s oath keeping my mouth shut if you know what I mean. You know me, always airing on the side of caution. 

If they establish a line of communication, I’ll personally badger them until they find out. Hugo’s a lot stronger than we give him credit for in spite of his anxieties, Fi. He learned that from you.

It’s not the ideal situation, the only thing that we can hope for is that Peter has someone with him that he’s familiar with. Me… I think I’m about as good as I can be without a definite end to this in sight.

Understandable. Admitting fear can be seen as vulnerability and that’s misconstrued as weakness by some. 

He needs that familiarity as a proper anchor for reality, at least somebody who can pull him back when I don’t possess the capability. Do you want to talk about it? I know when sudden trauma happens, it can inflict strong emotions.

If I end up alone, then that is how it’s going to be. Everything I do is for Katie, I live and breathe her safety. Something that her parents didn’t do, and something that even you aren’t doing for your own child, Madyson. Really, if we couldn’t have convinced you to stop seeing a murderer, you should have been thinking about Stella. You obviously thought at some point you would die from your decision since you wanted to leave her in my care. I just… I have no more words for this… ridiculousness.

Madyson opened her mouth, confident initially with what she was going to say, only to find the loss of words growing. That was Derek, blunt and to the point without sugarcoating the truth no matter who or how it hurt. “Don’t you ever say I wasn’t thinking about my daughter.” She whispered quietly, anger mixing with the pain in her heart, “My choice to place Stella with you had as much to do with my sessions with Sebastian as it did with the senseless murder of her father. And I’m only forgoing to spare feelings by mentioning Theo when you yourself are just being nothing but honest, but losing him, and losing my parents while we’re at it, taught me there’s no guarantee I’m seeing a tomorrow. So, to say leaving Stella in your care instead of another relative’s has everything to do with my recklessness around a deemed murderer is very presumptive of you. I made plans for my child, my own way, and if you don’t want the responsibility of caring for the kid of someone you can no longer stand to be around without showing your dismay, I’ll find somebody else.”

We forge our own paths, but I one hundred percent personally believe in destiny unlike my colleagues who scoff at nonsense. Between Lola and I combined, it’s a shock how you aren’t borderline diabetic.

So… what? You made a mistake and he just drops you? I put you on a pedestal because you’re one of the kindest people that came into my life who didn’t look at me as one of the Cabello’s, but my own person. Where others saw my family’s money, you saw me. How can a person who does that make a mistake so grievous, that their own boyfriend shuns them? It doesn’t sound right to me.

Clinical approaches don’t often work in my opinion. All it takes is a personal touch.

I made a mistake that was putting my daughter at risk, Peter, when I should have done anything to keep her safe. In a similar way, you remind me a great deal of someone else I was treating. People always see the last name or the money, where I chose to see him as more than the monster others tried painting him as. I saw the person behind the pain in him same as you. Someone special and brilliant who deserves to have someone tell that to them every day.

He doesn’t know what he’s missing out on– anyone who lets you out of their grasp, even if it’s just to be ‘on the rocks’, is not very bright. You don’t deserve that.

Peter. That isn’t a great start to building a healthy relationship between patient and therapist. It’s not a competition. 

It’s very kind of you to say, but I do deserve it. I made a bad choice for the wrong reasons when I thought it was right and he didn’t unfortunately agree. You’ve always put me on a high pedestal.

I don’t think your hoity toity detective boyfriend is going to like that.

I promise, I’ll be more than happy to recommend a few I personally know who would make a great fit for you. Just be open and honest.

I’m not in Derek’s thoughts much these days. We’ve...sort of reached the ‘on the rocks’ phase of our relationship.

I’m really sorry again that I had to put an end to our sessions, Peter, but just know it wasn’t by choice.
