There’s something about Mary asking Stede not to play pirates with his children and then immediately him doing just that. I love him for it.
If the kids were having nightmares, I don’t know if this was the reason. Possibly the unhappy household they were living in contributed more. I hope these moments with Stede actually brought some meaning because I think this is the only way Stede could connect with them.
“I’m the greatest pirate that ever lived.”* Depends how we’re measuring, but I’ll go with true.
*See also Stede’s boyfriend.
And the kids so obviously want to play with him! They instigate it!
I think her complaint is more that when they’re worked up or have nightmares, Stede doesn’t have to deal with it, and that likely extends to pretty much everything. Mary’s tired and unhappy and she has to be the one who does the not fun things involved with raising kids. The point with Mary and Stede’s marriage is that neither of them is in the wrong; they are both miserable and their misery affects their kids (see: Mary running around and playing with her kids after Stede gone. At the same time, God, he is obviously a much better father than his father was.)
Stede is a great example of how so many people strive to be better than their parents but they don't actually have the skills and knowledge to be a Great parent because they didn't have Great parenting.
Stede lived in a time where he wanted to be better but he had no way to learn how to be a parent. He couldn't ask other men, child rearing was the woman's job. And since he's already trying to pretend to be straight he can't give himself away by getting more involved in "women's work". He truly didn't know how to be the father he wanted to be to his kids.
So, I thought they were making a Spider-Noir live action movie but it's actually a series
I binged most of it last night & it's really good!
Hop into the #ChronicLoaf stream now to watch "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse"
Then we're starting S1E1 of "Spider-Noir"!

Pre-menstrual depression is always depicted as like "He He! I had a box of icecream bars and cried while watching the Titanic!" But in reality, it's more like, "I'm standing the edge of an abyss. There is nothing good inside of me, I'm filled with rage and desperation."
It's crazy that being told how to deal with that is never a part of anyone's menstrual sex education.
This has already been said in the notes, but if PMS causes extreme depression and even suicidal ideation, that is in fact something that most people do not experience and it can be treated
Like for the majority it really is "oh i'm hungrier and moodier than usual"
^this should be a part of sex education so the point still stands
I went to my doctor after I was walking to work one morning and saw a bus coming and actually took a step to throw myself in front of it before I pulled myself together. Later that day I started bleeding and was literally like someone flipped a switch and I didn't feel suicidal anymore. Which made me feel like I was loosing my mind because who goes from 'I want to throw myself in front of a bus' to 'I'm perfectly fine' just like that? I did some research, I went to the doctor and described my feelings, he looked me in the eye and gently asked what I thought it was, I said I'd read about PMDD and I thought it might be that, he said 'I think so too' and wrote a prescription.
If, before you get your period, you feel furiously angry, suicidal, irritated by every tiny thing to the point you want to murder someone, stuck in a black hole you'll never escape from. If you are experiencing extreme emotions for what seems like no good reason, especially if you get your period and those extreme emotions just go away. You're probably not just PMSing , you may have PMS's feral big sister PMDD and it's treatable.
Also this is something that can develop as you get older. So if you used to get normal PMS but what I wrote above sounds more like your norm now then don't just write it off as regular PMS.
“You think every citizen should have access to free and accessible healthcare?”
Wrong!!!
I think that Asylum seekers and Migrant workers and The Undocumented and Everyone Else should get free healthcare too
I love immigration
This one made the fascists and the racists really really mad. I get hate mail daily for this post
Imagine getting mad because someone else’s child’s chemotherapy doesn’t cost them 100,000$ .

For anybody not caught up: Tennessee just passed a new map that pretty much makes it so black neighborhoods have no power in local votes. Two things about this. While protestors were chanting "No Jim Crow", white Tennessee lawmakers were caught laughing on video. On top of this, Representative Justin Pearson and his brother KeShaun Pearson were arrested for trying to give their takes on the matter (which is not only their legal right but literally his job). If you give a shit about black people, help fight this. We can't allow a return to Jim Crow.
I don't know if this is a look into a dark chapter of our past or a dark glimpse into our future but we're starting #TheContestant documentary right now
