Book Review #5

Review: The Lux Series: Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

I’m going to start off by saying that Jennifer’s books are both fulfilling and infuriating. Typically, I read books with a single rule in my mind. The main character is ALWAYS right. Jennifer has made me frustrated at her characters more than once because of this rule.

I found the Lux series by reading The Darkest Star a couple years ago. I had seen the book in a book star and thought it looked inresting. I read it in a day and put it back on my shelf. It was literally two years later that I realized it was actually a series. I still have yet to read the rest.

I started Obsidian and was immediately hooked. I knew that it was going to be interesting when Katy encountered the handsome, arrogant Daemon Black and the sweet, bubbly Dee Black. I was confused at first at first but everything cleared up as I continued to read. 

Normally I don’t read books about aliens, though I do love Sci-fi, but this book was so good! I couldn’t put it down. I read the entire series (excluding Shadows) in about a week. The characters were all so relatable and the relationships built throughout the book only progress as you read. This is a semi-spicy alien sci-fi book with forbidden romance and a lot of plot. A great read, especially if you are new to Jennifer L. Armentrout’s books.

Book Review #4

Review: Starry Eyes by Jenn Bennett

My fourth review will be a romance book. Once I really enjoyed when I read it.

My mind is a little bit rusty on what exactly happened in this book, since I read it over a year ago but I know enough of what happened to give this book a proper review. 

I’ll start off by saying that this book was both emotional and hilarious. There were moments when some of the characters made me so angry I wanted to punch them, some moments when I was in tears from laughter, and other moments when I found myself sympathetic to the characters. 

If you had to ask me what trope this book was in, I’d say it is the Friends to Enemies to Lovers trope. However, the friends part is only mentioned. 

Zorie and Lennon book have their own struggles and decide to take a camping trip with some friends that ends badly, which results in Zorie and Lennon stranded in the woods. They have to hike in order to reach Zorie’s original destination. With them left alone together, they have no choice but to use each other as crutches and sort out the misunderstanding that ultimately led to the downfall of their original friendship. 

I love the relationship between Zorie and Lennon. While Zorie is the main protagonist, Lennon is probably my favorite character. He is both sensitive and sincere. Definitely the type of guy Zorie needed in her life.

This book gets a five star rating from me! If your into moderately adult romance, this book is definitely for you! (By moderately adult, I mean that there is indication that the main characters do have sex, but no explicit detail is provided.)

Book Review #3

Review: Trials of Apollo: The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan

For my next review, I am going old school. I adore Rick Riordan’s book and the humor that comes with them. 

The Trials of Apollo is the third series in the Percy Jackson world. It takes place after Heroes of Olympus and during the same time period as Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard. It follows the god Apollo as he faces trials with the burden of mortality on his back.

The first book takes place at Camp Half-Blood where Apollo has the joy of meeting his children, which includes the famous Will Solace. (MINOR SPOILER: It also happens to be the same book where you learn that Will Solace and NIco di Angelo are a couple) 

Apollo makes new friends in his mortal body and begins his journey of saving the oracles from the grip of three evil Roman Emperors. While Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase are not seen very often in this series, other characters from Percy Jackson and the Olympians and Heroes of Olympus, such as Nico di Angelo, Will Solace, Jason Grace, Piper McClean, and Leo Valdez are seen through out the series.

The first book starts off slow, but overall it lays a perfect foundation for the story to come. This book, along with other Rick Riordan books, are a great read for people who are invested in mythology.

Five star read for me.

Book Review #2

Review: Two Can Keep A Secret by Karen M. McManus

I’ll start off this review by saying that this book was one of the BEST mystery book I have ever read. Yes, its not a very long book but the story is great.

I got into Karen McManus’ books by reading One of Us is Lying and its sequel, One of Us is Next. Once I read those two I knew I had to read more of her books and so I decided on this one. 

I absolutely adore the characters. Especially Ellery and Ezra Corcoran, Mia Kwon, and (This guy is my favorite) Malcolm Kelly. These are just a few of some really good characters in this book.

This book starts off with a mystery and ends in a very surprising plot twist. With all the suspense in this book, it took me less than a day to read it. I couldn’t put it down. The book captures your attention right at the start and leaves you on the edge of your seat until the very end.

The book has great diversity, character development, and suspenseful plot lines. I would give this book a five star rating and I highly recommend this book to lovers of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson. They are similar in a variety of ways from a town full of mysteries to a family shunned because of a family member being suspected of murder. 

Read it! I adore this book.

Book Review #1

Review: A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson

This book. Wow. So, I recently got into murder mysteries and started out reading Nastasha Preston. So, when I was in the book section at my local Walmart and saw that Natasha Preston has written something that was on the cover of this book, I picked it up.

I finally got to read it and I couldn't put it down. It had a bit of a slow start, but then again, what book doesn't? I was immeditely captured into the story when Pippa met with Ravi Singh the second time. Ravi immediately became my favorite character. I loved Pip as well.

The story held great suspense and a complex plotline. The evidence that piled up made it difficult to pinpoint what exactly happened with Sal Singh and Andie Bell, despite how close to the ending I got. Which, in my opinion, is what makes a great mystery novel. The plot twists at the end is what I read them for. Let's just say, I was NOT expecting that ending.

However, I felt like there was an excessive amount of interviews and data files that Pip found. It was kind of exhusting reading through all of them. That's just my opinion.

I grew fond of Ravi, Pip, and Pip's family. I grew to like a few other characters as well. I also found that some characters were not to my liking.
