Daisy~ From ‘Apocalypse no Toride’ or 'Fort of Apocalypse’
Apocalypse no Toride/Fort of Apocalypse was written by Kuraishi Yuu and drawn by Inabe Kazu. Published in Shounen Rival from Sept 2011 to Aug 2015 it has a total of 49 chapters that were put into 10 volumes. It is an action, mystery, phsycological, horror, scifi, and shounen manga.
Summary: After being convicted for a murder he did not commit Yoshiaki Maeda is sent to Shouran Academy Juvenile Detention Center. He is placed in Cell four with three roommates: Gou Iwakura, Masafumi Yoshioka, and Mitsuru Yamanoi, who have a variety of charges and sentences. Trapped in a violent power struggle, Maeda believes that life couldn’t get worse for him.
Unknown to the people in the juvie, the outside world has been thrown into a zombie apocalypse. But with a van full of infected heading their way, the guards and inmates must quickly adapt to their new environment.
The art of this manga is amazing. It’s clean when it needs to be and a bit dirtier when it’s called for. What impresses me the most are the designs of the zombies. There are some designs that go beyond the basic human corps type zombie. I haven’t seen anything like them before. Honestly I’d love to show pictures of them but I don’t wanna spoil anything.
However, while it’s easy to tell them all apart, the human characters don’t have very unique designs. This is to keep some form of realism so I can’t fault the manga for that. Still, if you’d cosplayed as any of these characters you would be mistaken for many different characters.
I do love the characters a lot though. They all have distinct personalities that makes it so much fun to watch them.
Unlike most zombie stories the characters don’t have to worry about a safe shelter, water, and food since they life in a pretty self sustaining facility. That along with their personalities makes the characters much more focused on the zombies and each other. And the both are really worth focusing on.
I seriously recommend this manga if you like this type of manga. I have reread this one a few times, and it’s still a great read even though you know the twists. Check it out and have fun.
Okay I changed my mind I’ll give you a small hint for one of the cool zombies.
