A screen recording of mine from the Substance digizine :-) we managed to emulate windows 98 on my computer to get this thing running, it's super cool to have access to stuff like this and I will always be grateful for how dedicated nin fans are to archiving these types of things.
Substance was an interactive digizine originally available on cd-rom in the mid 90s, it contains a lot of interview audios and transcripts, other tidbits of information, and is all put together in a very 90s fan internet way which I think is super cool. its super fun to get lost in and all the UI design is so cool, it's definitely a relic of the 90s!!!
i would one day really like to make a tutorial for other people interested in having this on their own computers but it is quite an intensive and intricate process so it may take me a while to put that together + truthfully idk how many people would want to go through all that. But in the meantime nindestruct has a video walkthrough of the entire thing on their youtube channel, i highly recommend nin fans go check it out because it's a super cool fan project from the bands history and it contains a lot of interesting interview bits I think u guys would like to see :-)
The way I go between “I need him. I need this fit. I want him. I want to wear this. He looks so good. I’d look so good……”
put him in a blender mix it all up

while reading a recent short behind the gallery joseph cultice interview i browsed their nin collection a bit and these two contact sheets really caught my eye 💭💭💭
both of them have a lot of very famous pictures that get shared around a lot but in addition each of them have their fair share of shots that to my knowledge i haven’t ever seen before..
^ here’s a handful in particular that really caught my attention.. 💭💭💭 i’m sure there’s a clearer version of these out there (for less than $1,500) that i just haven’t stumbled across .. i’d be curious to see them in higher quality

snippet i love from raygun magazine december 1999… i wonder if there are any pictures of ethyl out there 🌷🌷🌷
if u look closely at pics from this photoshoot it kind of looks like trent might be wearing some type of little plastic headband.. 💭💭💭 teeheeee
i love this advert in the article given for the vinyl edition of the downward spiral. this sums it up perfectly imo
cough .. i love concept albums okay bye love this record
i really really love this little note he gives (+ also there was one for broken iirc ?) and i absolutely agree that it really describes the album well.. i personally really appreciate him advising that you listen to the whole thing as one larger piece of art rather than.. well as he says a collection of songs and that your perspective on the album will change a lot the more you listen because i think that is exactly what happens when you listen to the downward spiral.. 💭💭💭
and (sorry to kind of hijack this post with my own thoughts!!! #oops) ^ i’d also say that at least in my experience this also applies to like 99% of other albums i enjoy.. of course tds and the fragile and the trilogy and all my other favorite nin releases and even like, for example disintegration by the cure or mezzanine by massive attack.. pretty much all of the albums that nowadays i consider my absolute favorites are ones that on my first listens i definitely didn’t understand and in some cases even necessarily like.. but after a while they kind of mutate and you piece together what the album means on its own as a work of art as well as with your own feelings or interpretations and i think that’s what makes specific albums or songs feel so special as a listener 😊😊😊
one thing i’ve always really appreciated about trent as an artist is that i think he shares this ummm experience or thought process (?) and sometimes in interviews u notice him mentioning that albums he enjoys maybe once confused him or didn’t sound that great on the first listen,,, i feel the same way about a lot of my favorite albums and its cool to hear trent think about his own favorite artists the way i think about him sometimes… if that makes sense…
