I do have a fondness for how gothic and erotic lit had a certain barrier to entry. Like I do love more ppl getting into the vampire chronicles and I'll always be happy to have more Loustat fans but those books are weird and melancholic and erotic and philosophical and constantly testing boundaries and asking questions. And it feels like ppl are expecting or wanting "the vampire diaries but gay". The books have uncomfortable moments and the characters will do and say and believe things that make you double take but so much of the books are just "how moral can I be when nothing matters and I'm immortal?"

This isn't just a tale of gay vampires. It's a haunting philosophical treatise about life, mortality, morality, death, depression, incest, rape, love, regret, and the Pain Of Time. It can be fun and it can be gross and it can be wonderful but it's not for the timid.

anyway i'm sorry but there is something so delicious to me about armand doing something truly horrifying just because he is a monster who wants the scared little boy inside him to be acknowledged

after sleeping on it my opinion of this season is that in the wider scale, i liked it. i enjoyed it. it was a bit experimental and it seems to hit home with the general audiences. the tonal shift makes perfect sense for lestat. but i do feel somewhat saddened how little of lestat's past we truly got (mostly because TVL is my favorite book in the series). but it's a mixed emotion because i think the writers made an attempt to sort of have lestat and the audience go on an emotional journey instead of a biographical one. i do think they accomplished that. but there is so much i wish we had seen in depth and so my real criticism comes down to the constraints of streaming. this season NEEDED ten episodes at least. anne rice's books jampack SO much into so little, she truly maximizes her word count. getting that on screen is a fucking task. it felt like we were on an emotional rollercoaster hurdling towards QoTD more than sitting with TVL properly

you know what i can't get over? how easily loustat fall back together. in a way, their ability to crawl back to each other, to squabble one moment and laugh over stupid jokes the next, to endure something horrific and find quiet solitude together moments after, it proves they have a security with each other that is absent with everyone else. loustat have the ability to allow each other to be angry. to be hurt. to process, and then return when they're ready. i feel like this episode was this gentle promise that loustat are the point, they are each other's anchors no matter what.

ofc people are already balking at claudia telling louis she hates him and purposefully manipulated him as if that is not biblically accurate claudia. or complaining she gave the most anger to louis and not lestat like? did she not already have her moment? did she not already murder the man??? ofc she's gonna hone in on the one she never got to fully unmask with. ofc she, stuck in the afterlife fresh from finding out the truth of her turning and being right about armand, is going to want to give louis all the anger she had repressed for so long. it's not ooc, some of y'all just never let go of the preconceived notions you had from falling for the facade and narratives you were supposed to deconstruct
