Dear all, here are another couple of Jesper scenes that I animated while working on Klaus. Jesper here is coming up with this overmade comedy, lamely trying to convince the man to keep up the business, thinking indeed about his own interests. Character staging and body language were the master words to me. I did both characters on the first shot (it was interesting to have a take on Klaus himself). Thanks to my fellows Victor Ens for his supervision for Klaus, and to Jorge Duran Llanos for animating Klaus on the second scene. I'm missing this team a little more everyday. 🙂

Dear folks. Sharing here a few other scenes I did animate on Klaus last year. In this sequence, Jesper discovers Klaus's barn, sort of breaks in and gets stuck inside as the man gets back to his place... Acting here was all about nervous fear... Wicked !

Dear all, here is another part of a sequence I did animate on Klaus. The very first one of the movie. Introducing Jesper was fairly challenging, as our director Sergio Pablos, was pickier than usual for this one. It was for the better good. My good fellow and brilliant animator Alvise Zennaro animated the very first introduction scenes for Jesper (not displayed here), and I followed with this last part of the sequence. I'd like to also thank my friend Charlie Bonifacio for his precious help on Drill Sargent (standing next to Jesper), which Charlie was supervising. :)

Dear folks, here's are a couple of scenes I had a chance to animate during the production of Klaus in 2018. Mogens the Boatman takes Jesper to his new place, while these kids give him a very special welcome... I had the pleasure working with my friend and supervising animator Matt Williames who animated Mogens in the second scene (Mogens's animation is still ruff on this version), which ended up being shortened in the final cut, for editorial reasons. :)

Dear all. Four years ago I had a chance to get back in touch with Sergio Pablos regarding his feature film project Klaus. By this time I've been away from animation for a little while and I cannot hide that I was fairly interested in joining the production. Then eventually Sergio offered me a supervision role for the main character Jesper. I had to think a lot about it and for reasons that remains strictly personnal I had to decline this role. In my sense it was for the best as my good friend and animation supervisor Yoshimichi Tamura ended up to take this supervision role. Yoshi and Sergio used to be colleagues at the Walt Disney Feature Animation department in Paris back in the nineties, their credit includes : A Goofy Movie, The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, Hercules, Tarzan, Atlantis and Treasure Planet, to name a few. Given Yoshi's experience, Jesper was in good hands. Later on, I was happy to finally join the production in early 2018 as the animation production was ramping up. Seeing the team building up weeks after weeks, learning to know each other will remain an unforgetable experience to me.

Here is a piece of sequence that I was honored to animate. Jesper is back to Klaus's area to suggest him this partnership. Storyboards were terific and altought they brougt up some good storytelling input, sometimes it could take a few rough passes before meeting Sergio's sensibility and accuracy in terms of acting.

I did help a lot to set up the layout, camera and acting of the following shot (not displayed here), which eventually was animated by Tony Fucile. No need to say that it was an honor to let this shot go in such hands. (Tony Fucile is a contemporary artist, illustrator and animator. He directed the animation for "The Iron Giant" and animated memorable characters for Disney, like Mufasa in The Lion King, 1994. He also worked as a character designer and animation consultant at Pixar for several years). Having Tony involved on the movie was a great honor for us. 🙂

This is a sketch I did to thank my friend and fellow animator Carlos Linares who was working as a cleanup artist on the production of Klaus at The SPA Studios in Madrid. Carlos got to clean up a few scenes I animated and did an amazing job. I'll miss this team for a while...

It's been a while since I wanted to share this little piece of drawn animation. I am very happy at last to present The Inspector and the Umbrella. I'd like to thank again all the people (credited at the end), who helped me to achieve this piece. Especially my good friend and amazing composer Mathieu Alvado, who widely increased by his talents the film's quality. I'll do my best to ultimately share a few tips and details about the animation process and the film's production :)
