UNIT 11
LESSON 1: FAMILY SYSTEMS AND STRUCTURES
LESSON 2: TRACING ONES ROOT
LESSON 3: TRACING ONES ROOT 2
We started our class again with a quote stated "Rejoice With Your Family
In The Beautiful Land Of Life"
-Albert Einstein
THE FAMILY
The fundamental unit of society and a principal agent of socialization, according to tradition. It has an impact on everyone's growth. It is the primary environment in which you can learn how to communicate and interact with others.
I have also known the BASIC FUNCTION OF THE FAMILY which is:
1. To REPRODUCE
2. Responsible for SOCIALIZATION AND
EDUCATION
3. Each member of the family is provided with IDENTITY AND SOCIAL ROLES
4. ECONOMIC SUPPORT
5. EMOTIONAL SUPPORT
On the other part, IMPORTANCE OF having FAMILY TIES is for:
1. Physical Support
2. Emotional Support
3. Development of Social Skills
Lastly, the TIPS on how to STRENGTHEN FAMILY TIES is:
1. Communicate effectively
2. Fight fairly
3. Spend time together
4. Share and cooperate
5. Connect to the bigger community.
UNIT 10
LESSON 1: ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE COMMUNITY,
LESSON 2: COMPARING PERCEPTIONS OF ONE’S SELF AND HOW OTHERS SEE THEM
LESSON 3: FILIPINO RELATIONSHIPS
We started our lesson with the quote
“Under your shoulders, dear young people of the entire world, weigh the responsibility to transform tomorrow's world into a society where peace, harmony and fraternity reign.”
- Bishop Carlos Belo -
From what i had understood, A community is also described as a group of people who share common interests, values, and behavior in a geographical setting or area.
Sociologists describe society as people who communicate to share a shared or general culture. Despite the uncommon of These two meanings they also have one thing in common: people sharing their experiences, whether it's by engaging in events or learning about a culture's customs and practices.
There are also Ways of Developing a Community:
Know the proper use of power. Identifying the leadership structures, the issues that must be addressed and how they are decided are essential ways of harnessing the power in an acceptable and proper way.
Establish connections. Creating an impact is the result when people get together and make their voices heard.
Civic Engagement and Participation. When a group of people remains silent amidst pressing issues, they fail to consolidate their power and influence. The improvement of the community and society is lost since their silence means they do not have a say in how problems are solved.
In lesson 2.
Adolescence is also a time of self-discovery. We are not just concerned with our environment. Wr are also curious about who we are and how others see us. It is a time of adjusting to peer pressure; meeting the demands of school work; and a time to learn the beginnings of “adulating.”
And Lesson 3:
Filipinos have always been a close-knit group. We are a part of a society that values interdependence among its members. We don't just treat each other as friends; we treat each other as family members. The people we communicate with are extensions of our own personalities.
The following are the Social Relationships and the Values of the Filipinos
1. Pakikisama
2. Bayanihan
3. Utang na Loob (Debt of Gratitude)
4. Hiya
In the Philippines, social relationships are founded on a variety of connections. They are social alliances that are linked to ceremonial kinships, actual kinship relations, gratitude debts, patron-client bonds, market-exchange relationships, and friendships.
Since Filipinos are accustomed to conversing, it is natural for them to tease and laugh with one another.
UNIT 9
Lesson 1&2: Building and establishing relationship with others
https://tinybuddha.com/blog/13-insights-about-relationships-that-could-save-you-a-lot-of-pain/
As I read the power point presentation of our topic. I have learned the importance of relationships during adolescence that can be observe in our family and peers. Family and peers are also the primary people or persons that we can actually have good relationships.
While 'us' teenagers starts with attraction, develop into love and end up in commitment also has a various factors permit. The following are
* Attraction
* Crush
* Love
* Commitment
Thing are the things that can arouse dating & relationship.
On the other hand, Courtship can be considered under attraction stage. It is a phase in a romantic relationship prior to engagement and marriage.
There are stages in doing courtship which are the
* Dating
* Selective stage
* Going ‘Steady’
* Engagement Period
While all these things are happening, the role of social media in dating is important. Social networking is available to almost all. Social networking has grown into a forum for you to share your interest in someone you met in person or online. Buttons like like, heart, and others have become the foundation for some to take their relationships with others to the next level or end them. It has also become a source of validation and security for others.
THE TRIANGULAR THEORY OF LOVE
The psychologist Robert Sternberg is one if the experts who theorized about love. Based on his “triangular theory of love,” love has 3 components such as intimacy, passion and commitment.
THE EIGHT TYPES OF LOVE
1. Nonlove
2. Liking/ Friendship
3. Infatuated love
4. Empty love
5. Romantic Love
6. Companionate love
7. Fatuous Love
8. Consummate love
The five love language was also tackled
And Lastly, we ended the lesson with the quote stating "Love those who love you. Love those who love you not. Love those who hate you. Love those who hate you not. Love them all until they love you back, and when they love you back, LOVE THEM MORE!” ― Abhishek Kumar,
UNIT 8: Empowering Psychological Resilience
Lesson 1&2: Understanding Our Emotion
During our Discussion in Unit 8 lesson 1, we tackled about understanding our emotion. So before I share what I have learned, first, let me define what is emotion based on what our teacher discussed.
Emotion, which etymologically means excite from French émouvoir‘ and move out from Latin emovere, can be as basic as ‘fear’ and as complex as ‘nostalgia’. It is a physical change or physiological arousal; a cognitive evaluation of the event or situation; and the behavioral part or outward expression of the feeling.
There are three (3) components of emotion which are
A.Physical Component
B. Cognitive Component
C.Behavioral component
that our emotions are expressed in different way.
The different theories and view of emotions made by different people are included and discussed.
I just also found out in out lesson 2 that our emotions add color to our life experiences. When our appropriate emotion is expressed, recognized, and managed; the message is made more apparent and adequately communicated.
There is also an emotion wheel in the topic which, the inner circle represents the eight primary emotions (joy, acceptance, fear, surprise, sorrow, disgust, rage, and anticipation), which can combine to shape the mixed emotions (love, submission, awe, disappointment, guilt, contempt, aggressiveness, and optimism) described outside the wheel, according to Robert Plutchik (1980).
But the most highlighted topic that struck me the most is the tips on how to express our emotions effectively. Because doing the right and clear way in expressing our emotions makes us maintain a smooth pace with our peers. Also for us to avoid misinterpretation, confusion of emotions.

Day 6 : Focusing on Psychological Health
On the first part of our discussion, we discussed the two approaches of well-being; Hedonic & Eudaimonic Well-being.
The 6 Facets of Psychological well-being by Carol Ryff was also tackled in our discussion and I have learned those six. It is the; Self-Acceptance, Positive relations with others, Autonomy, Environmental mastery, Purpose in life & Personal Growth.
In our lesson 2 as we move on our next topic, we discussed about the Mental Health Check and Dangers.
There are six factors that may affect our mental health but i'll just give one example which is the Bullying. There are three types of bullying: Verbal, Social And Physical bullying. I have experienced being bullied when I was in elementary because of my cheap shoe. The feeling of being laughed by your classmates makes me think that maybe I should wear beautiful shoes or outfit so that they will not bully me anymore, After of what I had experienced, I am always concern about how I look like to others. About my shoes, dress that I wear, I always ask someone if it looks better in me because I am scared to feel those kind of things again.
There are other things that we discussed regarding to our mental health, but unfortunately, I was out in the google meet and I wasn't able to join the meeting again because my signal went down. I am using data only. That is why I just downloaded the pdf file so I can study it up until the end.

Day 5: Encountering stress as part of Adolescence
"When you're stressed, just read it backwards and bought one if you have money." Enjoy! :)
The lesson that we tackle was about the sources and effects of stress that we are facing during adolescence. We also identified the kinds of stress which are the Acute Stress, where it is the common stress that adolescent could experience and its effects is short-term only. The second one is the Episodic Stress & lastly the Chronic Stress which is very harmful if an adolescent will experience it. It has a long term effect where if our stress is constant, it might take a toll on our physical and mental health.
If we've been experiencing stress, it means that we got them somewhere. Stress in our home, our studies, or even stress on ourself. Those are the examples of sources of stress that we experience.
Lastly, some signs of stress we can see are the changes of our physical characteristics, cognitive and our behavior. We cannot focus properly, we tend to forget things easily and have a negative mind always if we have stress. But there is also a coping strategies for us to be able to overcome stress ; Be positive, Meditation, and Rest in order for us to relax our mind so we could think and act properly.

Day 4: Setting the stage
During our class, we tackled about the preparation stage of being an adult; What are the things that we expect to happen and how to handle it properly. We all know that during adolescence stage, there are a lot of challenges that we will be facing in order for us to pursue or achieve something.
Knowing the importance of facing challenges helps us to develop our initiative. Because for me, when we face challenges, we want a successful outcome. And by that, we tend to use our initiatives to make an action.
Issues during adolescence are also included. One of it was rebellion. Nowadays, there are a lot of young people want to be independent. But some parents are not agree with that, and that makes the young people become rebellious. They always think about always having what they want. Though, it is also important to be independent, but at least think about the situation and make sure that they are already capable to handle yourself even without their parents.
Lastly, about having a Healthy Communication. I have learned that, communication makes us connect to others, it enables us to express our feelings, clarifying things or opening up about something. Healthy communication makes us understand things with others and avoid conflict.
Let me add this quotation from Anthony Robbins about a good communication. "To effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way we perceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication with others.”

Day 3. Adolescence
We tackled about adolescence. I learned the three Stages of Adolescence; Early, Middle and Late adolescence. Every stages, there are changes or development happening in different factors of development. These developments are: Physical, Cognitive, and Socio emotional development.
I am already 17 so i belong to the Late Adolescence. One of the Domain of Development I noticed on myself in Late adolescence is the factor of Socio-emotional. Whereas, I always consider the opinions of my parents in every decisions i made. I am open for that because I know that their guidance will help me in future and in decision making.
In the role of peers in adolescence, I can't deny the fact that I still compare myself to others. I compare myself to a person whose worse and I pity myself for being like that. But i had just known that i Should compare myself to someone better. It will help me become motivated or can be my inspiration to become better.

Day 2: Holism
We discussed about Holism. I learned that there are five areas of development, that includes Physiological, Cognitive, Social and emotional, Psychological and Spiritual. Those are the parts we need to form or develop for us to become a whole person.
Steps in taking care of our body was included in out discussion. One of those step is to get enough sleep and rest. I felt guilt with it because sometimes, I sleep very late around 3 or 4 am, the reason is that I am busy watching anime and playing online games.
The most interesting part is about the physiological Development. It is inevitable that the changes of our Physical Characteristic is non-stop. As we grow older or gain age, our physical characteristics is changing also.
Recalling when I was an Elementary Student, my skin tone is dark. When I went to HS my skin starts to become fair. Right now, I am still very conscious about what physical characteristics of me will improve. I want to maintain a healthy body because I believe, when you're healthy physically, you'll have a higher chance to have a good and clear mind.
January 18,2021
A while ago was our first day of formal class in our subject Personal Development.
We tackle about understanding or getting to know ourselves more. I learned new things or way on how to understand and care myself better. I also learned and understand more the meaning of Self-concept, Self worth, Self esteem, Self-efficacy and Self-complexity. I thought they all have the same meaning, but I found that they just have the same gist but they do not exactly have the same meaning.
I admit that sometimes I don't value myself, like I stayed up at late night or not eating in exact time. I had also identify myself as a seeker in yesterday's session. The reason is that, I still don't know myself very well.
I have confusions on my mind in every decisions or things that I'll be making. It makes me question myself if 'Have I made the right decision? or I'm just gonna regret it.' Maybe i feel those things because I wasn't giving enough attention understanding myself. But I know that I will get to know myself even more soon.
