also i hate to shit on a guy who made a really cool open source tool but like. java really fucking sucks to read. trying to figure out where the actual logic is happening in the infinite cruft of classes and boilerplate methods and wrappers and factories is exhausting
i feel like this is just oop poisoning tho. like you can write tolerable java, esp recently, but for 25 years java devs all participated in a global artistic effort to produce the worst code the world has ever seen
I feel kinda similarly about this to people saying things like "well it's possible to write completely memory-safe C"
I mean it's true, ultimately everything is a skill issue on the part of the developer, but I think it misses why certain tools lead to certain problems at very high frequency compared to other tools, and you need a pretty good argument to use that tool anyway.
From what I can tell C actually has a strong case in that it's 1. extremely powerful 2. extremely simple for how powerful it is and 3. everyone knows and agrees on what the issues are, so there are additional tools people use to mitigate them
And maybe this is just ignorance on my part, so if people want to enlighten me please do, but I can't really figure out why people would choose Java for a new project. It seems like most people who use Java think of this as a strength and not a crippling problem. Idk
