This is - legitimately - my favourite delivery of Shakespeare I have EVER seen (and I have seen some good-ass productions yo, in the Globe Theatre itself even). Like seriously, even though the words are unchanged, he’s stripped away ALL of the archaic pretense and assumed grandeur of ~presenting the bard~ that makes even the most wildly talented of actors and innovative of productions inherently inaccessible to a modern audience. Like, they’re still great, they can still communicate the message and (some) of the nuance, but they’re still always a step removed from being identifiable to any viewer’s lived experience. They’re still always reciting 15th century poetry. But this guy? This guy is like, screw iambic pentameter, to hell with being precious about the material, HOW WOULD AN ACTUAL PERSON SAY THIS SHIT?

Like this. And it’s beautiful. It’s beautiful to hear a soliloquy I loved so much already, and have it come to life in a way it never, ever, did before. I feel like I grasp his motivations, his twists and turns, no longer on an academic level but on a visceral, instinctive one. Because he’s presenting his mental and emotional journey in a way that speaks honestly, like a real person.

So yeah, this shit post? I love it. Deeply and sincerely.

I'm too much of a sucker for the tragedy of Wicked's ending to take any of this seriously, but the funniest possible fix-it concept is that Glinda just. Does not know. How the fuck. To send this 12yo back to Kansas. Like why the hell would she know how to do that?? Who thought it was a good idea to leave her in charge of this???

And from Dorothy's POV, this is such a funny concept: imagine for a minute that you (a child) wake up in a Fairy-Land, become best friends with a (possibly mentally unstable?) talking scarecrow, and are told by the god-kind that you must go murder his political rival before he'll send go home. Fine. This might as well happen.

And when you return from said murder - which is somehow successful - it turns out the god-king is a fraud and cannot help you. Whoops. Well, how about the OTHER seemingly most powerful person in the country? Ah, no....it turn out she had pretty limited powers in the magic department. And they're mostly bubble-related.

So she takes you (by bubble) to a tiny seaside town on the edge of the map to seek the help of her most powerful friends….the woman you just murdered and your scarecrow best friend who was an accomplice to that murder. And apparently, they’ve all three been dating since undergrad.

I mean, what do you even do with that.

Demons have pursued me all across this great country. Me, just a humble servant of society trying his level hardest to get at least one thing fixed around here. Every time I try to take a breather and appreciate a job well done, those devils are biting at my heels.

Once, I was just a regular ol' fix-it type. Something would break around the house, I'd do my best to undo that breakage, and life would continue. Things were good, then. Things were simple.

The problem with learning how to fix things is that sometimes you notice when things are about to break. You see the patterns. Other people don't pick up on the little squeak of a belt tensioner, or a cold clammy feeling around a window frame in February. Suddenly, the whole world is full of stuff that's just barely marginal. Society is built on agreeing to ignore that until there's an actual problem, because otherwise you'd go nuts.

A lot of people like me go nuts.

If I couldn't fix everything, I figured I'd at least do what I could. It started easy. My neighbour had a bad fence, so I pulled everything into alignment when he was out at work, to be a good neighbour. Then I saw a rickety mailbox post on the corner. Soft soil, seen it before. Little bit of concrete shored it up. Suddenly, I was two blocks away, fixing things that were too blatantly bad to ignore. I haven't been home in a year.

If you see me out there, trying my best to cobble some shit together on the side of the road, muttering to myself in the rain, do me a favour. Knock me out and drive me back home. Don't worry about hitting me too hard; if you break anything, at least it will keep me busy fixing it.
