this dude wasn’t dead, but judging by the rusted iron on his clothes he was there for a long time. he didn’t just suddenly fall into the water, which posed the question: how did he live through such a thing? could it have been a stand that allowed one to breathe underwater? she couldn’t put her finger on it, but surely she’d figure out more by the set of inquiries she thought up. though, knowing anyone in this god forsaken race, she’d have to get answers by force–

which was why she loaded her gun again.

“first question: who do you work for?” marco inquired, pointing the barrel right at him. if she shot and he protected himself with his stand, then she’d be able to figure it out. probably throw him into the water again for being a dick. though if he didn’t call his stand, she’d still get answers. it was a win win situation really.

He raised his hands in a show of how he didn’t have any way to defend himself ( that she could see of course ) and swallowed as he thought. Not Valentine, he betrayed him when he joined Diego.

Did he still work for Diego? Diego hadn’t come to get him, so probably not. That made him more than a little sad, and it showed on his face a moment.

“No one. I don’t work for anyone, ma’am.” He lowered his hands. “I mean no harm to ya. I’m actually pretty grateful for you pulling me out of the water.”

He offered a smile. Time to lay on the compliments thick to get on her good side.

“Yeah, yeah. While I’m at it why don’t I adopt a cat or something,” he snorts quietly. “What about you? Anything new?”

“He’s still after you? I thought you had that figured out by now.” He frowned some, stirring the drink again as he glanced off when Diego set his drink down so heavily. “I never saw you as a cat person, you know. Always thought you’d like dogs instead.”

“Not much has happened thats out of the ordinary. Work’s a drag, and everyone’s so busy that there’s almost nothing to do.”

And I’ve got a pretty good punch myself,” running hands through his hair, he sighs and takes a quick scan of the bar. “I think I will. It’ll give her a legal cushion. Look at me, Diego Brando, entering fatherhood. Who would’ve thought.”

“Still. You can never be too careful.” He tips the drink a little towards Diego before he sips on it, his other hand curled under his chin. “You law types think everything’s under control until it all goes wrong. You should prepare for everything.”

“Eh. Change is good, usually. Something great might come out of it, even.”

travelling had caused a great deal of trouble for the woman, especially during the recent heatwave that had hit them. she frequently spent her days by riversides and her nights travelling– it was a horrid and abrupt shift to her schedule, but there was nothing she could do against it. the other participants would race themselves into heat exhaustion, but marco knew that even if she was held back a little, it was best not to injure herself or her horse for later in the race. she took it nice and slow in the morning, quick and abrupt at night.

marco kicked off her boots, removing any kind of leather and heavy material ( leaving her in men’s riding trousers and a simple blouse ), tended to her horse. the heat was too much to have the saddle on his body, especially since it was all black leather. once she unsaddled him, she brought the animal to the water. getting down onto her knees, she began to douse herself in a feeble attempt to fight off the heat.

though, it wasn’t hot enough to see things. several times she blinked, wondering if the image would ever go away, but alas, it did not. is that a man down there?! she couldn’t really panic, hell she’s seen worse and been through worse, but she knew better to leave him down there– even if he was already dead. rolling up her pants, the woman dived into the body of water grabbing the man and pulling him up to the shore.

of course, she wasn’t going to simply allow him to try anything against her– because honestly, she has seen some shit in this race. she went over, grabbed one of her guns ( and of course her mask ) and shot a bullet right beside his ear. “get up.”

Magenta couldn’t even begin to count how long he had been under the water; the only companions he’d had were the sound of the water and the whispering of 20th Century Boy somewhere in the back of his mind. He registered the shift of the water when someone jumped in, and he didn’t fight the attempt to pull him out of the water; for all he knew, it was Diego.

He willed his Stand away as he pushed himself up onto his elbows to hack up what had to be too much water for one person to have inhaled. The sound of a bullet firing off beside his head made him flinch and he pulled his hands over his head, breathing harshly as he turned to face her.

The scar over his eye pulled some and he brought a hand down to cover it, groping at his sides. No gun, of course, and any gun he had would have been ruined in the water.

“Who the hell are you?” His drawl as worse when he’s scared, and he pushed himself backwards until he was sitting upright and facing her. “What do you want? You’re not -- you’re not who’s supposed to come find me.”

“I know but it was Diavolo’s gang. Those guys are a fuckin mess. He’s a paranoid ass and he cuts off ties. I’m safe. I’m totally safe,” he grins. “When have I not been?” he takes a sip of his drink. “You know it. Man you know the stray cat I’ve been taking care of for the last…six months now…?” he rubs the back of his head, loosens his tie. “I’m thinking about adopting her. She needs a home. I’m no dad but….she’s always at the convent anyways. She’s only home for holidays.”

“You get weird threats all the time. Comes with the job. You could never be too careful.” He stirred the drink set in front of him with the straw as he peered at a spot on the wall over his friend’s head. “I remember her; she’s a good kid. She would do good if you helped her.” He offered a smile. “You should do it.”

“This one was especially easy. Even a law student could’ve won it,” he elbows him lightly, motions for the bartender to come over and orders them a round, something lighter for himself. “Serial killer who got caught in the act. Connected to the Italian mob. Only issue is a good friend was involved with him. She’s alive, but she’s thinkin she’d be be better off not.”

“Mob connections are never simple, Diego; this is gonna get messy.” Personally, it was a warning of sorts, but it was one you could shrug off as the warning of a friend who watched too many action movies. He orders something decently alcoholic for himself; he doesn’t have work tomorrow, so why not indulge? “I guess it’s nothing you can’t handle, though.”

valentines entire squad is connected to diego they prob tried to put hits on hp tim gyro and johnny but diego struck deals w them and occasionalyl meets w them for like…discussions. he prob works w wekapipo and magenta the most?

that sounds pretty right tbh magentas easy to get along with as long as you dont try to use him / fuck him over
