“I have to admit it could get rather lonely at times.” Max agreed smiling wistfully “I always wanted a younger sibling but my parents always said I was nuisance enough.” He added with a shrug “What was it like growing up with an older brother? Disregarding the horrors of your brother discovering sex of course.” He added with a chuckle. Max noticed Jake blush and couldn’t help but smile affectionately. He was absolutely adorable when he got all flustered and fidgety. “Well you’re an extraordinary bartender Jake.” Max said decisively. He bit his lip and furrowed his brow in thought “well I would argue that playing with the villagers in the Christmas villages and giving them backstories is a Christmas memory but I suppose one of my most treasured memories would have to be when my nanny Rose took me to London and we went ice skating at the Natural History Museum. We had hot chocolate and skated for hours and marveled at the tremendous Christmas tree in the center of the rink. It felt absolutely magical.” He reminisced smiling fondly at the memory. Max was slightly caught off guard when Jake grabbed his hand and intertwined their fingers but it was certainly a pleasant surprise. He didn’t want to make a big deal out of the moment and spook the man but he couldn’t help but wonder how monumental this moment might be for Jake. Max gave the other man’s hand a gentle, comforting squeeze and smiled over at him fondly his eyes filled with affection. Max could already tell this would become one of those quiet simple moments he would cherish. “I’d love that! I think I saw a neighborhood that was all done up just a few blocks that way if you’d care to join me.” Max offered hopefully gesturing with his free hand before turning back to face Jake.
Jake made a face, looking over at Max with a small chuckle. “I honestly can’t picture you being a nuisance.” He admitted, giving him a small smile. “You never bothered me. Even when you were questioning my drink making prowess.” He promised, before scratching his head. “It was really good for the most part. I don’t know what I would have done without him. Even when he was driving me crazy. It was just really nice growing up with someone that would always be there for me.” He knew the more that he spoke about Jack that it was true and that his brother wouldn’t want him to be afraid of who he thought he might be. They both knew life was too short to hide. “I suppose you are right, I guess I’m making you share two Christmas memories but I like hearing about you, so you just have to deal with it.” He teased gently. “Are you good at ice skating then? I’ve been a few times myself but I certainly wouldn’t say that I’m any good at it.” He was relieved when Max didn’t react too much when he took his hand. He returned the squeeze with a small smile before following his other hand and nodding. “Yeah, let’s go see what we find.”
