Right on time. Just barely right on time.

Alma's shift at the Pickle-Mart deli had gone into overtime, but she could handle it. What she couldn't handle was missing any one of her sweet baby girls' softball games, no matter what her far younger and far more apathetic manager said. The second she clocked out, she had ten minutes left to arrive at the school, which was coincidentally ten minutes away from the Pickle-Mart. She barely had time to toss her apron and hat in the back of the ancient minivan she drove before peeling off.

Precisely the exact minute the game was about to start, she sprinted onto the bleachers to take her seat and wave her to sweet little baby girls; identical twin brunettes named Esme and Lily, with their mother's chubby face and sun-kissed tan, taking their place on the bench to await orders, their eyes and smiles lighting up with a deep relief. And finally, for the first time since that morning, Alma could breath, letting out a long sigh as she sat down and got ready to watch a bunch of bright eyed and bushy-tailed children play softball. Never mind the subtle whispers going on between the PTA seated nearby, and nevermind that some of the other parents were already hyping up their own kids a little too loudly and aggressively. Alma was here for her girls, with her hair done up in a tight ponytail and her biggest golden hoop earrings and her sparkly pink eyeshadow. Every game was special. Every game counted. They were her girls.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, some lady in pink fell through the ceiling! She's fine though, since she got up immediately and shook the dust out of her hair like a dog.

"Damn. How long as this place been falling apart?..."

The harsh sound of the ceiling being broken immediately had Leon’s head whipping around. When he watched the woman in pink get up completely unscathed, he blinked in pure confusion.

“Are you alright?” He said, quick to appear at her side. Never mind what was going on with the place, how did she even get here, and through the ceiling at that?

"Hm?" The woman in pink was still fussing with her hair and dress, dusting off the debris and combing it out of her thick locks with her fingers. "Oh, I'm fine. Not sure what went wrong with the second floor though..."

She pointed up to the new hole in the ceiling, or rather, in the floor of the second story. At a glance, it looked like black mold, but there should be no way for it to have gotten so bad without anyone having noticed days in advance...

"What about you, though? From the looks of things, I don't think anyone in this city is alright, now..."

"Good. I'm glad you're alright." Leon nodded.

He watched her point up to the hole in the ceiling, one of his brows cocked up curiously, "Hm. Hopefully that doesn't become too much of an issue."

"I'm okay. Better than most here," He gave her a quick thumbs-up, "What you're saying about the city is definitely true. Everyone's all.. crazy. I don't know. But there's survivors out there, there has to be." He sounded determined, too determined, that this place could have what he called survivors.

"I can help track them, if you need me to. I've got some experience with this kind of thing..." Her voice trailed off slightly, as she realize how long of a story it would be if she had to explain herself. Falling through the ceiling and shaking it off must have already made her look weird or suspicious. "I mean, not exactly this kind of thing, but close enough. I-"

She stopped and whipped around as if she heard something in the opposite direction. Something that at the moment, only she seemed to hear. "Damn, that sounds big! Come on, I don't think you wanna deal with it. Walk and talk with me." She cracked her knuckles, headed towards a direction indicated by an emergency exit sign. "So, what's your name? I'm Alma."

"Tracking? Might come in handy.."

He watched her whip around all concerned, and it confused him for a moment, trying to look around to see what she could've possibly heard. But he was too tired to say anything, too lost in whatever else was going on. He simply nodded again, following her. "It's nice to meet you, Alma."

"I'm Leon, I work with the RPD. Or..." Leon's mind fogged for a moment, remembering every little thing he'd just seen and done, "What's left of it, at least."

Alma bit the inside of her cheek, picking up on that little pause. It was a small reminder that he wasn't used to being surrounded by death and abominations, the way she was. In a way it tugged at her heart a little. "Well, I'd say if you made it this far, you're probably one of the best. I'm sure everyone's... proud of you." There was a bit of a stutter, as she wasn't exactly used to comforting people who could be effected by a zombie apocalypse. But she meant every word, even though she knew she was a stranger who couldn't speak for any of his friends or coworkers.

She stopped at the exit door she'd been headed towards, seeing that a couple zombies had wandered in, and crinkled her nose at the scent of the air around them. Without a second thought, she aimed a punch at one of their heads, successfully lopping off the jaw before shoving it into the second zombie. Not quite having taken them out yet, but clearly their decomposing bodies were being ragdolled. "By the void, what a fate. At least they're already dead..."

"Thank you." He said slowly and with a touch of embarrassment, trying to sound hopeful. Everyone could be proud of him. He wouldn't know that for sure, though.

Leon stopped just besides her, gun readied as he watched Alma take out the undead, "Nice!"

Two shots rang out as Leon hit each of them as they ragdolled, the zombies jerking as bullets hit their soft flesh. His nose wrinkled at the sight. He felt bad. Awful, even.

"I don't understand how any of this works. They were people. I mean, maybe they still are. I.. I don't know." Leon shook his head, as if trying to shake the thoughts of morality about all of this out.

"You don't seem afraid."

"Well... like I said. I have experience. A lot, actually." At least, it was easier to say that than explain why or how punting the undead around was so normal to her. "It gets easier when you remember they're not people anymore. Or rather, when you can know for sure whether or not they are."

Pushing the bodies aside with her foot, like a couple of rotting lumps, she headed for the door to push it open. The outside was just as much chaos as the inside, as expected. With some unaware, mindless zombies scattered about and paying them no mind. "Come on. If we wanna find survivors, we're gonna have to head out into the fray..." She was about to reach out a hand, almost instinctively, but pulled it back. This guy didn't need her to baby him... even though part of her wanted to. Like he said, she wasn't afraid. But he was. She could see it in his eyes.

"Eh, depends on how? Do you mean an actual werewolf or a wolf shifter? Because the werewolf is the one who turns into an actual feral animal on a full moon, with no human intelligence. The shifters just get to chill and turn into wolves whenever. I tried it before, but personally I'd rather be a bird. 'Cause flying is cool."

"Okay so, technically, that's classified as a chronic illness. Not the end of the world but, you'll be fine. Wolves are sweethearts, you're not gonna eat people or anything."
