        HARRY ?  HELP THEM ?  seemed a lot to neville like harry was the one needing  help.  besides,  harry potter’s got to have lots of better things to do than hang back with neville.   ‘   oh,  no,  i’ve got it !   ’   they  don’t,  though,  and it’s just one slip of the hand that sends their papers sliding across the corridor floor.   ‘   oh,   ’   they resign miserably,  kneeling to pick up the nearest papers that haven’t been  kicked  out of the way by sneering slytherins.

           they won’t admit it to anyone  (  mostly because they seem to be the only  BOY  actually interested in going  ), but neville is  excited  for the dance that commemorates the tournament.  for as  clumsy  and  f o r g e t f u l  and  awkward  as he is,  it really shouldn’t seem like such an appealing event,  but the  ELEGANCE,  the idea of just breaking away from a terrifying reality for one night called to them.  they had an extra  hop  in their step,  a determination one would consider uncharacteristic for neville longbottom.  they're repeating the words under their breath like a spell,  though they only  W I S H   they could rely on magic now.   ‘   do you want to go ?   ’   the gryffindor squeaks,  face draining of color as if they spoke to the dark lord himself.   ‘   to the yule ball ?  with me ?   ’        //        @killerblonde

  HEADCANON  /  META  #1

so a while ago, while i was figurin out neville’s sexuality, i began to think also about their gender identity.  it’s my headcanon that neville is non binary (specifically agender), but it is also my headcanon that due to the unpopularity of this term in the 90′s,  they never really knew it.  it plays into their anxiety and insecurity a lot because they can tell something’s different but they don’t know what it is. they usually use he/him pronouns,  especially during their school years when they doesn’t want any more torment.  neville is really cool w either  (but if you call them smthn gender neutral, they’ll bake you a whole tray of cookies).

AS FOR HOW THIS WILL AFFECT THREADS :  i’m going to switch over to using gender nuetral pronouns for neville in my writing, but up until years six, seven, and post-war  NO ONE WOULD KNOW.  and likely the only two people neville would talk to about this before graduation is ginny and luna. i imagine they spoke a lot about this to them on lonely nights spent in the room of requirement.
