My two main ocs are Reina/Ribbon (pink) and Diana/Diamond (yellow). They are the mcs of a magical girl comic I’m writing. I have other projects too but this one is my main focus and goal. Any art related to this project will be tagged as #Ribbon and Diamond

I’m into a lot of different things, so feel free to suggest what you’d like to see me draw. I have a second blog where I also post art, @magicbeansprout2 Fanart for some more obscure/lower effort fanart might go there, some stuff for various projects, non-illustrative craftworks, or any misc doodles or works. Diamond illustration I'm testing out colors and some design elements with

Some Ribbon sketches. 1st is from today, 2nd from last weekend. Experimenting with additional details to her design. She's had the frills on her choker before in an old drawing from 2020, and while she's always had frills underneath the skirt of her dress, its been awhile since I last had them appear in a drawing. I think I'll probably go back to keeping them non-visible in most cases though, since they make the hem of the skirt not match the other white accents anymore besides the lace on the choker. The other change here is with her hair ties, which are meant to be kinda lace-like and match her hair accessory. While her hair accessory is meant to resemble a crown, it's made of fabric like the hair ties, so having a second instance of the same material helps clear up any misunderstandings about the material.

Some pencil sketches from earlier this week. I often use mechanical pencils when i draw, or a sharpened pencil when i have access to a pencil sharpener, but i used a fairly blunt pencil for these, which resulted in a looser feeling. This pencil doesn't do much digging into the paper, so it glides along and makes mistakes less permanent. The trade-off is that the graphite smudges very easily.

Last post for the day. Originally the first image wasn't meant to be a full on scene. My original intention was to draw very simplified versions of Reina and Diana like those you might see when you zoom into the background of an anime and people kinda just look like this: ( [:)<-< <- hopefully this imagery reads well. I'd need to draw them like that for some very panned out panels in the comic, so I wanted to practice. I added some paper into her hand to fill space and then decided to have her wave it cause thats fun to draw. Reina's movement is really weird here, but in the moment it's hard to do corrections to what looks off, since you might recognize something's off but aren't immediately able to determine the exact problem area. I don't usually pull up references when I draw, unless I'm looking to make a big piece or just need to refer to my own art for character details, so I didn't have a pose to reference the actions I was envisioning. I came up with some dialogue since Reina gets competitive with Diana about grades early on in the story, so this might be an interaction they'd have. From there I created a full scene. Normally i'll draw a rough sketch of something and then draw on top of that, but these were done with one layer each and a non-transparent pen. You can see Joy on image 2, where there's also some other stuff of Reina and Diana and potential character designs for people in the comic. Her face is really messed up, she looks really funny when you flip the image, but due to the strange angles of everything, I ended up drawing some somewhat decent hands for such a tricky angle. Warning for swearing in the second image if you zoom in on the kinda hidden 2nd drawing of Joy. Don't let your kids see that, she's not a good influence.

Assorted pencil sketches, plus one inked one.

I'm playing with giving Reina one braid instead of a ponytail for her usual look. It's less heavy looking and compliments her glasses better. Her very first design back in 2019 had her with twin braids. Ribbon's general design has stayed pretty much the same from the beginning, but Reina's undergone many evolutions over time.

Reina's birthday was last month on the 21st, and I didn't get around to any of my ideas for an illustration for it, but maybe I can consider this small makeover to be her present? Eh.

I'm going to be tagging any Ribbon and Diamond stuff as such going forward since there's enough of it on my tumblr to where it might be tricky to go back and look for older stuff. I'll slowly be going back and tagging older posts with the tag as well.

I've been busy with schoolwork, so hadn't found the time to post these, but I found my stylus earlier this month! Only took me 6 months to find it 🙂. Here's some Ribbon and Diamond related stuff I drew a bit earlier in the month after finding it.

I ramble a lot here, so details on these characters are under the cut if you wanna hear me infodump about my characters and comic stuff.

First up are the fairies Bow and Tie, who help Ribbon and Diamond respectively. I'm really proud of the names, as goofy as they are. They match one another and each corelate to the respective magical girls they assist, as ribbons can be tied into bows, and neckties are diamond-shaped. Their colors and design specifics aren't set in stone, but they'll be made of fairly simple shapes so they can be drawn easily. Maybe I'll make them fully different colors from Ribbon and Diamond, with Tie being a yellow-green and Bow being lavender or another purple. Not sure though because I really like Bow with that shade of pink hair.

Next up, still on the topic of fairies, is this character whose outfit might seem familiar. (to those that have seen the singular drawing from 2? years ago of a character wearing this, this one's for you) I like how the character's personal colors look, but the colors on the outfit were kinda chosen randomly so I'll definitely be playing around with those some more. I've been wanting to rework the story of the witches, and the King is the one who's needed the most work. This is a possible concept I'm going to play around with. I don't think the proportions of the fullbody drawing will be the King's actual appearance as a fairy, looks kinda splatoon-esque lol, but since this outfit was intended for a human-sized character, I need to draw an awkward middle stage as I work to simplify the outfit for a smaller character, like a reversed Pokémon. I also think i'll be changing King's pronouns from she/her to he/him (or another combo with he/him). King still considers himself a gal gender identity-wise, but that's what he goes by and others call him. I know in Chinese and Japanese there are some masculine, pretentious? (not exactly pretentious but, like "I'm really cool/great"), personal pronouns or ways of referring to oneself. I'd think if you translated his dialogue into one of those languages or any languages that have something similar, he'd be using those in his speech. I only sorta know two languages besides English, but I definitely want to improve on them, since there are a lot of language specific jokes or gags you can play with in writing. (Plus, obviously just using the languages to talk to people lol) As you can see near the bottom, the King can also take on a human form, albeit with some slightly pointed ears. He's a lot stronger than fairies like Bow and Tie, and can maintain a human form for a very long time should he desire. I'm considering making there be different types/kinds of fairies who have different capabilities, i'll be playing around with those concepts some later. There's definitely a lot more to work with for the King. He doesn't have a proper name yet, yes even after 5 years, this is a normal pace for writing characters actually. Feel free to leave me any name suggestions for him. For reference, the other witches are:

Jo (Josephine) - the Joker. Her suit is clover (clubs, whatever) ♣️

- Her name starts with similar sounds to her witch alias, simple as.

Paige - the Jack. Her suit is hearts, which she shares with her sister. 🖤🤍 <- her hearts are drawn as half and half, kinda like a broken heart. She's the youngest of the witches and is still going through her emo phase.

- her name comes from an alternate name for the Jack in (i believe) some tarot decks, the Page.

Valentine - the Queen. Her suit is hearts, which she shares with her sister. ❤️

- Valentine, hearts, you get it.

I made this comic back in January but never got around to finishing it till now. I've been watching Kamen Rider W and am really enjoying it.
