Honestly this kind of shit annoys the fuck out of me- especially as a disabled and neurodivergent woman. This is the part that pisses me off, though, is shit like this specifically:
The problem is in the exact opposite of what I ended up doing for myself: pressure to do it the “usual” way or the way you are told. if you put a book in front of me and told me I HAVE to read the entire thing before even thinking about moving onto worship, I don’t think I’d ever be able to do it. i certainly would take much longer than neurotypical people trying to do the task. my brain wouldn’t be able to handle it, so I’d give up.
The problem isn’t literally anything said in articles like this. The problem is that, when we say “go research”, y'all, for some ungodly fucking reason, seem to translate that as “you have to do all your research and know everything before you start”- when that’s never even remotely been the case at all.
Like, no, research isn’t easy. It’s going to be hard, and that’s true regardless of your ability or status; it takes time, energy, resources, focus, and a number of other things to do. And there’s no short cuts to doing it- especially if you want that information to be good.
And if you want that information to be good? Then there is a certain protocol that you should follow, in terms of how to do research right in a way that gets you accurate information from reputable sources. And there is a certain protocol to follow to further verify your information. And yeah, it’s time consuming; there’s literally no easy way to get proper information.
But despite the fact that various protocols do exist to some extent? There is literally no “usual way” to do fucking research; there is no standard pace you have to follow, or amount of knowledge that you’re supposed to know before doing x or y or z… This mythical “usual way to research” and invisible fucking standard is entirely fucking made up by you. It doesn’t exist- and it never has.
Shoving urgency, strict instructions, and the “right way” onto beginners, even with the best intentions, may be the reason that beginner drops consideration of practicing. especially if that beginner has a disability you are probably unaware of. this also is inflexible and can make neurodivergent or disabled pagans feel pressured to follow abled/neurotypical methods and practices.
Literally fucking no one is doing this. No one. Not a single person. Not a soul.
The blatant fucking reality is that if you ask someone where to start, and they say “go research”? That means, and has never meant anything more than, (as one minuscule example) “if you’re not sure how to do offerings, look at some basic offering sources”; in other words: Pick a topic, look at things, read some shit, and figure it the fuck out; literally: Go fucking research.
Stop using neurodivergency as an excuse and blaming other people for your own fucking self created research paralysis that you caused entirely on your own; no one else is responsible for your research paralysis but you.
Ugh, YES, thank you. Saw that post floating around a while back with dozens of notes like “same! study is so harrrrrd!” People are stopping this short of just straight up saying “Reading is bad!”
There was a part of me that wanted to write a rebuttal like you just did, and another part of me that was just like:
The reality is, people feel guilty and self-conscious for not doing the work. They hate feeling dumb in comparison to others. They see more experienced people recommending they do the work.
Instead of sacrificing their ego on the altar of learning, they project it into “you’re just being ableist against neurodivergent ppl” or “classist academic elitism!” Then they get to feel satisfied and self-righteous and like they know stuff, without having to do the fucking work.
Despite the fact that many of the people recommending they read a fucking book are, in fact, neurodivergent themselves, and are throwing around links to free pdfs.
I’m literally so tired of Paganism’s general anti-intellectualism. I’m fucking over it.
“Speak not of what men deserve. For we each of us deserve everything, every luxury that was ever piled in the tombs of the dead kings, and we each of us deserve nothing, not a mouthful of bread in hunger. Have we not eaten while another starved? Will you punish us for that? Will you reward us for the virtue of starving while others ate? No man earns punishment, no man earns reward. Free your mind of the idea of deserving, the idea of earning, and you will begin to be able to think.”

I see a lot of books invoking Jupiter or Mercury for financial magic. Even Venus and Mars if the situation calls for it. But, I noticed that invoking Saturn is not so popularly considered a part of practical magic.
But with Saturn being the task master, isn't it necessary to have his blessings to lessen/limit the obstacles? From what I've understood, Saturn holds back rewards until one has learnt their lesson. So, if someone invokes Saturn asking to learn what they need to do in order to move past an obstacle, wouldn't it be helpful? Also, I couldn't find much on invoking Saturn.
I am sorry if my question seems vague, I am still learning.
People tend to avoid Saturn because as you have pointed out his lessons are hard to learn. Working with him isn’t always a pleasant experience. Yet it can be most rewarding.
I agree with you. It makes sense to work with Saturn particularly for issues regarding time and reaping what we sow. Sometimes building wealth and favour takes time. But Saturn is the lord of time, in fact, one could say Saturn exists beyond the constraints of time. Working with Saturn can remove obstacles and allow for magick to flow more freely bringing about manifestation in a more timely manner. You don’t always need to actively work on obstacles related to you- obstacles exist outside of you too and some may need removing.
It can also set you on the course for personal development however which could, although not always, cause a massive upheaval in your life.
This being said offerings made to the spirits of Saturn will almost certainly work well in your favour. Get to know the spirits. Ask what they can do for you and how they can help you. Don’t be scared by what they appear like or how they feel. Saturn is a heavy place to dwell in.
Also your question is not vague and quite frankly if you are still learning you have learned more than most people on here and have clearly done reading prior to asking me a question. Which I thank you for, it makes answering easier and more specific.
