Started this series couple of days ago, im only at book 2, and so far its been fun!
more magisterium characters! My fave is master milagros, cuz shes funny and apparently shes filipino, i love her sm
Any of you know Aaron Stewart?
my boy
Cool
Alastair: Hello, excuse me. I would like to buy this abstract, surrealist, post-modern painting of this depressive and tormented person.
Salesman: I’m sorry sir, that’s a mirror
diversity win! the century old evil chaos mage who’s killed thousands is genderfluid!
Call: Yum! Thanks!
Master Joseph: *putting more duct tape over his mouth* what the fuck stop eating it
Magisterium Valentines: perfect for you, your girlfriend, the counterweight-slash-soulmate you resurrected without her permission, and your fourth wheel best friend! We guarantee that we have a card for every relationship.
constantine vibes
so today i’m gonna talk about *spins wheel of options* au where alastair sticks to his guns, doesn’t let call go to the magisterium, and goes on the run across state lines. they end up getting pursued by not only the magisterium for breaking their laws about mage children education, but also the us federal government because alastair sorts out everything except for enrolling call in any kind of official schooling. essentially this is the Most Unfun Road Trip Ever (in call’s words) with the highlight of mages struggling not to reveal their powers in front of normie fbi agents
fbi agents in the world of the magisterium is something i never knew i needed
Magisterium but the entire thing happens during the unfun road trip. Uhhhh, they meet Aaron who’s trying to steal their car. Yep. He can do that remember?
wait . that’s great. alastair hightails it out of north carolina a month or so before the iron trial itself (bc he doesn’t want to get caught immediately by mages that might turn up to his house in advance to remind him) . they’re heading west (in a haphazard way) and whilst they’re sleeping in a motel in the middle of nowhere, call gets like a tingly sense and goes out to check on their car and finds aaron in the process of breaking into it. they share like a moment of just . incessant eye contact . before call yells for his dad and aaron scampers. alastair goes after the kid, sees him using magic & suspects he’s a magisterium spy before realising that it’s just a normal magic kid like call and resolving to take care of this innocent soul who doesn’t realise how bad the magisterium is yet. call’s still a little sus tho bc this kid was gonna steal their car & call’s rlly protective over his dad/the few things he got to take with him. bam calron lowkey-enemies to reluctant comrades (bonding on the run). and then to thick-and-thin friends to lovers
Since Alastair already knows about the FBI being after him, he’s like, fuck the law and every few days steals a new license plate. Fun. Anyways, uhhh, some bad and potentially dangerous happens AND BOOM AARON’S A MAKAR! Idk, like car crash, or the FBI finally caught up to them, whatever. Meanwhile, Tamara hears about them and she’s like intrigued now because her life was very very boring. Yeah I mean she’s rich but like whatever. She gets picked to be Rufus’ apprentice along with Jasper and Gwenda. She tries the sand trick except whoopsie now she’s destroyed part of the Magisterium. They get expelled but their magic isn’t bound because Tamara’s parents are rich. Anyways she remembers about Alastair and Call and decide that the only way to go back to the Magisterium was to prove herself and she sets out to find them and bring them back, while dragging along Jasper and Gwenda. Continue the AU
Well we gotta throw Alex in too. Joseph probably would’ve had him hunt down Call as well, because the whole Enemy shit. And maybe, as Tamara and Co. are looking they bump into Alex and he tricks them into joining him. They have no idea why he’s actually looking for Call they just see that a cool older kid wants to help and they just go “oh pog ok the more the merrier”.
Meanwhile Alastair is trying to keep his son and the random kid he found on the streets from killing each other lmao
Okay so, now that Alex is with them, AND THEY’RE STILL IRON YEAR STUDENTS, DOES THAT MEAN HE TEACHES THEM MAGIC?! Hell yeah. Alex can also turn like purple and orange and stuff now cause he can do air magic invisibility. Alastair brought Constantine’s wristband along with him cause what is an AU without the implied Alastine Angst tm? Tamara gets a Zuko Arc and Jasper is slightly less whiny. Rufus does the tornado phone thing, and Call is like, “Dad there’s a ghost in the parking lot!“ Alastair: Just throw a rock at it! And now we have two paths to go down. Is Alastair anti magic or anti magisterium? Also since Alex is Anastasia’s stepson, wouldn’t Tamara and Jasper know about him? But we don’t know too much about Gwenda so I’m gonna assume her family is a bunch of non-mages, and she thinks that Alex is majorly sus. Also Drew lives because he wouldn’t have a reason to die. Unless…
so *spins wheel again* i lowkey think american mages have been exiled/excommunicated from the rest of the world.
i mean. in the space of two decades, usa had a full out war against The enemy of death, and then got double makars, and then they realised oh one of those two is now dead and the other is the reincarnation of that previous makar, and then everything happened with alex. like, if news of any of this did manage get out, then surely someone wouldve stepped the fuck in to ask america what the hell they were doing. or in europe’s case, sent someone to kill the makars. especially when there were two very well known ones (calron) known for studying under the same master & thus being in the same place at the same time very often??
that nobody did anything makes me feel as tho the world often turns a blind eye to everything in america like its not happening. like they’re crazy hillbillies or something
American mages: *having a war, drama, ect*
Rest of the magical world:
The question is why America got exiled/cut themselves off from the rest of the world. Maybe they had a disagreement about what to do about makars, hence why they didn't help the magisterium in the war (they thought they deserved what they got for not taking care of the makars early)?
Straight friend groups be like: *blonde girl* *chad *the funny one* *kyle* *brunette girl* *frat boy*
Gay friend groups be like: *boy possessed by the soul of his father’s Evil Overlord ex-boyfriend* *rich girl with the only ounce of smartness* *the one who used to be possessed boy’s nemesis but is now actually his counterweight/soulmate living in the nemesis’s body after his original resurrection failed and he had to live in possessed boy’s head before the body snatching* *the snarky asian one who deserved his redemption arc and more* *the girl with the ferret*
i think we might have mentioned this before a few months ago but wouldn’t it be cool if (in the magisterium series) mages suffered various physical/mental effects from over-using magic?? like if, instead of just snapping into a devoured state or feeling exhausted, some other things happened to the magic-user?
a healer (earth magic) might find the tips of their fingers hardening, like compacted soil, if they overdid it. during the war against the enemy of death, because there were so many injuries, did healers often end their shifts with a marked sense of less dexterity in their hands? and if they continued to over-exert themselves, did the problem become permanent? are arthritic mages frequent customers of the newest generation of healers? do they bemoan the burden they pass on, or do they warn others not to over-work themselves as they did?
a prophetic mage (fire magic) could struggle with seeing entirely. smoke might cloud their vision after a session of prophesising, prevent them from spotting certain details before them, or even great sights in the distance. it would narrow their world down to themselves and the visions. but only in the short run. until someone subjected themselves to repeated sessions, perhaps in an attempt to figure out the mage community’s future during the war with the enemy? and so, in call’s time there might be middle-aged, or old, folk suffering from cataracts and other serious sight problems. spending a lifetime looking for something beyond what your eyes normally allowed you to see surely can’t end well.
a makar pushing their limits might find their veins darkening, or frankly even growing more visible to begin with. they might, if they continue, watch as their fingernails blacken, become like fragile charcoal, and their heads throb with the drone of possibility calling to them from another world: the void. like a siren, did it call to constantine, and all the other makars before and after him, and indulge them all in their desire to do more, to create more? and so, although the other elements have their physical warnings signs, same as chaos, they might not have that little, needling voice that convinces you to pay not heed to caution. perhaps that, and not merely the near-unrivalled power accorded to them by having access to chaos, is part of the reason why so many makars seem to have gone slightly crazy with void-power.
What about air mages? Do they have like, breathing problems? Do they get a little translucent?
that is an awesome idea! air mages developing asthma over time — to the point where maybe a bunch of people couldn’t hide away in La Rinaconda because the high altitude was so tough to breath in. or maybe there’s an increased danger of developing air bubbles in the bloodstreams, causing internal circulatory issues?
Air bubbles in the bloodstreams could give air mages the bends like when divers don't depressurise properly- if they overuse it, they could end up with joint pain as air bubbles collect in the joints, confusion, memory loss and mood swings if the air bubbles collect in the brain, or dizziness, nausea and hearing loss if it affects the ears.
Water mages are known to suddenly collapse hours after a battle after secondary drowning sets in and their lungs fill with water.
Alastair: What do you call raising the dead?
Constantine: A hobby
Alastair:
Constantine: That I do not engage in
