Home? for the Holiday
âMore problems with daddy and sycophants.â Jemma told Daisy as she wasnât sure this was a general rule or if her father just hated it when any of his underlings got the idea that his family liked them.
âWell the only locked doors will be locked for personal privacy reasons so good not to going busting in.â Jemma replied still whispering. âNo, no talking about where I work specifically.â She warned not even wanting to say the name. âThey know I work for a government agency and that it is all secrets and hush-hush. They donât exactly approve. Daddy thinks I should get a job in the private sector where I can make real moneyâŚâÂ
âWhile Iâm the public face of an entire minority,â Daisy said, tilting her head awkwardly.  âBut if they donât recognize me, I can just say Iâm a cybersecurity expert or something, because itâs not wrong. I have literally only ever met one not-alien who could outhack me and Iâm proud to say it was a lot of work for him.â She meant Fitz, of course, since she hadnât actually met Tony Stark, though she was pretty sure he could easily do it, too.
âTheyâll recognize you,â Jemma said knowingly. Her mum watched a lot of the news, âThat doesnât mean I work for the same place you do,â She whispered on, âAfter all Quake isnât just involved with you know what.â
âWell, I mean, we met on the job,â Daisy pointed out.  âMe doing my thing, you doing yours, government agencies work together all the time.â She adjusted her neckline a little bit.  âYour familyâs not racist or anything, right? Because that, I will rant about, and thereâs no sense trying to talk me out of it because people with those kinds of attitude need to have their opinions changed.â
Which is your morality alignment?

âItâs not his car, itâs a company car.â Jemma explained at once. She looked at Daisy in all seriousness. âTry not to act too familiar with him, he could lose his job.â Jemma had learned that the hard way when she tried to be friends with one of the sycophants who drove her one summer.Â
âI know you are.â Jemma said in a whisper and couldnât stop her eyes rolling. âThis is why I told you this was a bad idea.â Daisy said sheâd be fine and now it seemed she was finally getting that she was out of her element- this was out of Jemmaâs element and it was her family.Â
âIâll add that to my problems with rampant capitalism,â Daisy muttered. People in service shouldnât be forced to be either social or asocial. Sure, silent Uber drivers were a blessing, but it was different when it was forced, capitalism and classism working together to screw someone. What if the driver had had something he just needed to talk about?
âI promise Iâll be on my best behavior. Like Malta without the breaking into locked rooms part.â This was again said quietly, lest the driver relay that Daisy was some kind of a criminal hoodlum. Which would almost be accurate. âDoes your family know about SHIELD? Like, if they ask what I do for a living, do I say I kick ass by shaking stuff apart and hacking into stuff, or should I just say I work for a humanitarian group that helps people with special interests?â

âNo, you fooled your mother.â Jiaying told her with a smile, âFor that is who I am with you.â
âAs far as Iâm concerned, youâre both.â After all, nobody at Afterlife, including Daisy, would be who they were without Jiayingâs guidance. Her kindness. Her love.
âBut with you, always a mother first.â Jiaying said and clasped Daisyâs hands. âAlways.â
âBut like, a cool mom. Super zen and fun to hang out with once you get out of your shell. We should play Mario Party later, speaking of.â
((Pride month so sharing my little picrew portrait))
MagnitudeTwelveâ Daisy peeked in the door. âPsst.â She smiled and skittered in, trying not to be seen, almost. âI brought you something for your birthday. Itâs not much, and you should only eat one at a time, but here you are.â She held out a small tray of brownies.
Jemma sat up from her bed in the zepher and looked at Daisy as she scuttled in like a cockroach or something. She had no idea what she was getting at or why she was being weird about sweets. âUmmm⌠Daisy are you alright?â
magnitudetwelveâ:
jemmaqueenofspaceâ:
âNo I suppose I wasnât,â Then of course before sheâd had THC she hadnât been in a fire fight so a lot had changed since then. Maybe Daisy was right and she could take the drug without having an anxiety attack- while being on drugs had not been- convenient- it had been a lot of fun. âI donât see how it did me any good but I can say- I had a great time.â
âYouâre a biochemist, you of all people should know that having fun is mentally healthy, serotonin or something, like how crying is a literal brain detox.â Daisy suddenly realized with a painful shock that sheâd learned that from Lincoln, sweet, sad, selfless, short-tempered Lincoln, and how the last time theyâd seen each other, she was in no good state to tell him she loved him. Then she realized that all the upbeat energy had been sucked out of her, how badly she missed him, and how short their time together actually had been. Fuck Hive. âSo. Are you ready to push the reset button on all the energy youâre wasting on being sad?â
âIâm not being sad.â Jemma said immediately, the denial so ingrained in her she couldnât let it go for one moment. She was fine. She was always fine. Thatâs how she was. How she had to be, if she dropped it for even a moment- well she had sort of seen what would happen back in the mind space with Fitz. She wouldnât let that happen again. She had to keep things nice and neat and tidy packed away in their little music box⌠that said, being high on Kitson had been, honestly, wonderful.Â
âBut, what the hell huh?â She took one of the brownies off the tray and took a bite. âItâs my birthday. Why not have a really good time?â
âThatâs the spirit,â Daisy said with a smile. âThatâs what birthdays are for!â She moved the tray to the top of the chest of drawers, and sat down on the bed. âNow the trick with edibles is to wait about half an hour before you decide youâre not feeling it and have another. Eating three pretty quickly is a classic rookie mistake, you have to ease into it.â Daisy snorted. âThatâs what she said, am I right?â
((Discord is acting way more kindly to my internet so if you want to rp over that, let me know so I can shoot an invite))

âRight, I do have a tabletâŚâ Jemma reminded herself feeling silly she hadnât thought about that at all, of course all of this was weird. âThe only time Iâve ever had THC I spent the whole time in a closet convinced the police were going to show up at any moment.â
Daisy nodded. âThat checks out.â God, she used to be so innocent back in the day, never breaking any rules, putting up a fight when she was asked to do so, almost unable to conceive of a good reason why she should. Not at all like Daisy, who had pretty much always hated rules. âWell, you werenât like that on puffies, and I think you should recreate that, it probably did you a lot of good.â

Jemmaâs body flew off the floor and into the wall knocking the wind out of her. The fire extinguisher in her hand fell free on contact with the wall clanking to the ground and rolling away loudly against the cement floor of the Playground. Jemmaâs head reeled. It took her a moment to realize what had even happened she was so sure it would never- that Daisy would never ever use her powers on her like that.Â
Jemma looked at Daisy her eyes wide. âYou- you quaked me? You honestly did it- How could you!?â The cold murder look on her face now took on a look of indignation and absolute heartbreak.Â
âIf it makes you feel any better, I canât believe I just did that either,â Daisy said, shaking her wrist. This whole thing was wrong, from AIDA being on the team, even in a probationary way, to Simmons filled with so much hatred, to Fitz stuck in the middle, none of it made any sense, and Daisy wanted it to stop as much as anyone else. Well, maybe not quite as much, considering she wasnât planning open murder.
âWe need to be smart. Like we were with all those heads of Hydra when we made them turn on each other. Itâs the exact same thing.â Please pick up on what Iâm saying, now that I quaked some sense into you, she thought desperately.
Jemma was stuck still on the ground her breath coming in little gasps as she recovered from having a diaphragm spasm and her world pulled out from under her. She stared at Daisy as she talked and found she wasnât really following- all she knew is she wasnât falling on her knees begging for forgiveness, and since she wasnât she wasnât giving it, not a drop of it.Â
âGet away from me.â Left her lips, âGet- get the hell away from me.â She was shaking as she tried to get up to her knees.
Daisy put her hands on her hips and frustratedly looked at the ceiling. âIâm your friend.â Sometimes I feel a little more than that, but Iâm so not admitting that right now, maybe ever. âIâm not going to let you do something that turns into you ruining everything you have.â She did, however, back off physically, as a sign of respect, not that it really mattered all that much when her powers had a reasonable range, but still, she hoped it helped. âAIDAâs not going anywhere for a while, and everyoneâs on edge. We can do this later. I promise. Where is Fitz right now? Is he okay, did she hurt him too?â
MagnitudeTwelveâ Daisy peeked in the door. âPsst.â She smiled and skittered in, trying not to be seen, almost. âI brought you something for your birthday. Itâs not much, and you should only eat one at a time, but here you are.â She held out a small tray of brownies.

âOh.â Jemmaâs eyes got a little wide when Daisy explained the plan was to get high on pot brownies. âWeâd have to watch anything on our phones⌠as I said I donât have a TV in hereâŚâ She said suddenly nervous about all of this.Â
âVPNs and an endless supply of trial Netflix accounts signed up for with disposable gift cards and burner emails. We can totally watch on my phone, or stealâborrow somebodyâs tablet.â Daisy finally registered Simmons was nervous. âOr we could just talk about life and stuff.â

Jemma kept walking away, Daisyâs âwarningsâ not phasing her a bit. Daisy wasnât going to use her powers on her. Jemma was sure of that. She would go to medical and kill Aida. Fitz and Mack would be upset for a little bit but both would be grateful over time, after what Aida made them experience how could they not be? Coulson might make some speeches but they both know what he did to Grant Ward- he didnât have a leg to stand on here and they both knew it. Sheâd been through worse- a lot worse, within the last week really, and with much less reward than the promise of finally getting Aida out of their lives for good. She fully thought sheâd left Daisy behind to waffle about the morality of the situation.Â
With an enormous woosh and subsequent thud, Daisy unleashed a quake just big enough to knock Simmons to the wall and hopefully daze her. Not knock her out, not yet, but she wanted to show that she wasnât kidding around. Open murder wasnât the way. Open murder would mean everything Ward and AIDA wanted for the team was going as planned. Even as Daisy used her powers, she felt a conflict, because, again, she was definitely on team Kill AIDA, but she was completely in favor of staging an accident that looked like neither negligence that could be blamed on someone nor deliberate murder.  âNot here, Simmons. Not now. Weâll work something out, but this isnât you.â

âSo itâs my birthday but I have to entertain you?â Jemma raised her brow and shifted over to let Daisy have some room on her bed. âI donât have a TV in here.â She told her friend what she thought was obvious from the lack of one on the walls. She hadnât exactly made the Zepher a home.
âWell, that came out wrong,â Daisy said.  âItâs not like that, you justâyou know what, fuck it, Iâve got pot brownies, okay, and you need to loosen up a little bit, so I thought we could put on some eye candy and get high as fuuuuuck, have ourselves a girlâs night. Hey, maybe we can watch that new Baywatch disaster, theyâve got lots of hotties.â

âTotally,â she said mischievously. âLadiesâ night, for your birthday. I got the snacks, but you gotta get the entertainment and shtuff.â Daisy made a pop like she was finishing up her lipstick, before setting the tray down. âWe could watch Magic Mike or something if youâve got a TV that plays mp4s.â
