The Mirror of Myself

The inhumans and Seymour found themselves in the beautiful fresh sea air on a member of the Surin Islands. Other inhumans came out of the trees and over to the new group welcoming them and taking them under the canopy. 

Jiaying found Cal as the small crowd thinned to almost no one. “Welcome to Láishēng.”

Seymour looked around in absolute awe. “Huh… It almost feels like home.” He said calmly to himself. Things suddenly felt more comfortable and more familiar even though he had spent most of his life in Milwaukee.

“It can be your home,” Jiaying told him watching as the last of the inhumans went into the town beyond. “However you are an outsider to us- different yet not one of us, some gifts will affect you in unpleasant ways. Care will have to be taken on your part.”

“I would hate to take that from you.” Cal said. “I guess I will have to get used to it. I will do anything for you. I want you to be happy.” 

Jiaying smiled, “I am happy.” She told him. “The happiest I’ve been in as long as I can remember.”

Molly stopped laughing and started writing again. ‘We’re family now. It’s not none of your business, we are all each other’s business. We’re in this together.’

“Well, I mean, you’ve gotta have some secrets,” Fitz said, forcing a jovial tone just a little too hard, concerned that the place was going to turn out to be one of those cultish things where everyone owned everything and therefore nothing, not even private time, communal showers being common, being forced to talk about one’s sex life or traumas openly… “I mean, i’s one thing to share supper, another thing to publicly post your browser history.”

‘You’ve got a secret you feel you can’t share then.’ She wrote and it was written sadly. ‘Hopefully that will change soon and you’ll see you can share anything with us. We’ve got each other. No matter what.’

“It doesn’t seem fair to rely on you to tell me everything. I should take some initiative to learn on my own.” Cal said calmly.

Her body rocked oddly in response to that with little buffets of air coming out of her nose- she was laughing. It took her a few moment to recover before she wrote down something, ‘You’re too nice.’ was all it said. 

“I’ve been accused of that,” he admitted awkwardly.  “I don’ wanna assume stuff about a person tha’s no’ really any of my business.  Whether i’s who they love or how, Inhuman transformation, ages, gender…”  The only exception Fitz made was for bruises that seemed to be the product of abuse, and even then, he didn’t outright ask, just stared daggers at the person who looked, in his eyes, like they might be responsible for them.  “A’ least I try.”
