Photos taken on John’s 31st birthday, on 9th October 1971. John and Yoko were in Syracuse, New York for Yoko’s art exhibition This Is Not Here opening to at the Everson Museum. Later that day a birthday party was held for John in his suite at Hotel Syracuse with Ringo, (and possibly Maureen?) Mal Evans, Allen Ginsberg, Eric Clapton, Phil Spector, Klaus Voorman, Neil Aspinal and Jim Keltner attending. An impromptu jam took place (and was recorded). Songs played included What’d I Say, Yellow Submarine (sung by Ringo), Like A Rolling Stone, a medley of ’Twist And Shout, Louie, Louie, Yesterday, Maybe Baby, Peggy Sue, Bring Out The Joints (a Lennon/Spector original), Heartbreak Hotel, Blue Suede Shoes, Crippled Inside, Give Peace A Chance, Paul’s Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey, George’s My Sweet Lord, Imagine and more.
