idk if this will make sense to anyone but I don't think framing something as a question makes it not a demand. Like, if you consistently exercise authority(something I already hate) by asking "can you do this for me?" Or worse "you were gonna do this right?" And doing any sort of enforcement on that whether emotional like my parents saying "everyone's gonna hate you if you don't pull your weight" or whatever other enforcement mechanism, that's still a demand, it's just infinitely more frustrating because then you learn to fear saying no to that person, even when there's nothing riding on it. I'd rather you demand stuff than be outright manipulative to avoid it.
