Ah, the day was saved. Valko muttered his thanks around the straw that Maia had situated perfectly between his teeth. Maybe having a sister around at a party wasnât so bad after all. Maybe⌠Valko quirked up at eyebrow at the mention of the infamous Zyra. He immediately retracted his former thought about things being not so bad. Meeting his sisterâs pirate lover was definitely not on his party to do list. He took a long drink.
âPleasure,â he answered, âSorry, Iâd shake your hand, butâŚâ He raised both of his drinks slightly, and tilted of his head with an expression that was more blank than contrite. Both of his hands were occupied. He took another drink.
âIrony might what weâre going for. Iâm not sure. Youâd have to ask my⌠pirate. Are you two⌠is this a couples costume youâve got going on?â

Maia shoved Valko lightly at his response to Zyra, she looked at him, raising an eyebrow, âBe nice!â she hissed. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest, she might not have been fond of admitting it, but Valkoâs approval meant a lot to her.Â
She couldnât hide her smile as he asked about their costumes, and she let the grin take over her face, unable to help it. âI suppose you could say that.â She looked over at Zyra, meeting her eyes and taking the pirateâs hand in hers, squeezing it gently. âAnyway, itâs awfully difficult to say no to her when she gets an idea.âÂ
