Drifting Apart
It happened once, and it did not make sense to me. It still doesn’t. I didn’t understand how the most important person in my life, turned into a stranger overnight. Or so it felt. I couldn’t make sense of it. The broken promises, all those long talks, all those fights, all those laughs, for what exactly? I thought it was him. And part of me still hates him for that. I thought it was just him. I felt like I could’ve done more, and so I promised myself to always push harder. But there is just so much I can do, when someone wants to let go. And it’s not about him. It is just the mere idea that even the strongest relationships are fickle. And it scares me.
But now, I see that it isn’t only him. This happens, a lot. I’ve seen it happen to my friends, to people around me and it sucks. And I hate it when people say it’s life and it’s inevitable. They might think they are being realistic, but for me, this makes me not trust them. When I make the promise of always being there, I mean it. I really intend to give it all I got to keep my word. So why is it so easy for people to walk way?
The first time, I did not see it coming. It really felt like it happened overnight. I was broken before I really met him, and he picked up the pieces. And so when he was out of my life, I lost myself. Because I was who I am because of him. And it took me so much time to find myself again.
And now, I saw who I wanted to be through his eyes, and I can see us drifting apart. It’s like ripping off a band aid slowly. It hurts, but at least I have time to figure myself out, and avoid what happened once before to happen again. But no matter what, the people who mean the most to you, always have a part of you, and when they leave they take that with them.Â
I don’t know what’s so hard with it, but all you had to do was stay
