Hello beautiful people!! Another installment of my Fictober series is up and live on my AO3 page! Another BG3 fic for your musings đ
This is another Gale fix, but this time I wrote him with my tiefling monk Savine. I hope you enjoy!!
Day Fourteen: Did you stick to the plan?
Gale wasnât sure what heâd expected from Savine after he admitted his folly, but he had certainly expected more emotion from her than what she showed. He had pressed her hand against his chest, kneeling before her, knowing he could not brace himself against the pain he was about to reveal to her, and she had let it course through her own veins. She had watched what was known as Galeâs Folly with a damnable amount of grace, something heâd only ever be able to bear witness to, and had let her hand linger over his heart after heâd shown her everything.Â
If anything, she pushed the warmth of her palm against the orb even harder, as if reaffirming her own existence in his paltry life.Â
âI understand if you wish to part ways. Youâve shown me nothing but kindness thus far, and I have repaid it with the risk of your life. All of your lives. Just say the word, and I am gone.â He said softly, praying to the Gods that sheâd keep him.Â
That sheâd give him a chance to prove himself.Â
She cocked her head and studied him, feeling the rhythm of his heart beneath her fingers. âWhere would you go? What would you do?â Her voice was soft and calm.Â
He couldâve sworn his heart actually stopped. Instead of being met with fear and disgust, she was actually calm . âUh, well, I suppose Iâd traverse to the darkest corners of the Underdark where I could let myself go without fear of harming any others. Or perhaps Iâd let myself turn illithid and pray that I make it to a fleet of nautiloids to erupt there, taking out as much of the Absolute as possible.â
Savine nodded, her lips pursed in thought. âNo,â her answer was firm, resolute. âI trust you, Gale. I trust you to tell me if your condition has reached the point of no return, if our lives are truly at risk.âÂ
He could hardly comprehend her words, so grateful he was to her and her kindness. Their other companions, however, were not so kind in stifling their reactions.Â
âWeâre just going to let a veritable bomb travel in our midst? He lied. Whoâs to say he isnât a little spy himself, working against us and just waiting to kill us before we can escape our fates?â Astarion scowled, angrily stepping between Savine and Gale.Â
âIf I cared about lies, I would not travel with a single one of you,â Savine spoke carefully, her eyes flashing a warning. âAs it stands, Karlach, Laeâzel, and Halsin are the only people who have not dared lie to me, yet I keep all of your company just the same,â she shot a look at Shadowheart, too. âHe stays. Thatâs final.âÂ
If either Astarion or Shadowheart had a rebuttal, it fell dead on their lips. She was right. They had all lied to her, kept something vital from her, and she had given them all the same grace and right as anyone who hadnât.Â
Gale couldâve wept with relief.Â
The warmth of her palm finally left his chest and he was so exhausted he wanted to collapse, but her hand was extended in front of him â an olive branch.Â
âStand, Gale of Waterdeep. We have things to do.âÂ
He grinned, trying not to let too much of his relief actually show, though he knew she could see it whether he hid it or not.Â
He thanked the stars that their paths were so aligned.Â
This is continued on AO3! Thank you so much for reading!! âşď¸
