ASOIAF OC WEEK: DAY 1 — GREETINGS!

HOUSE CASWELL OF BITTERBRIDGE

House Caswell, their lord titled Defender of the Fords, is a noble house from the Reach. They reside at their seat of Bitterbridge, where the Roseroad meets the river Mander. Their blazon is a yellow centaur with a bow on white and house words are 'Sure and Swift' pertaining to their arrows always hitting their marks, their adept horsemanship, and the Bitterbridge itself which acts as a necessary and reliable crossing for all Reachmen. House Caswell has notoriously been a true Targaryen ally, siding with the named heir Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen during the Dance of Dragons and fighting alongside King Daeron the Good in the rebellion against Daemon Blackfyre. In the year 209 AC, it's head of house Lord Armond Caswell, passed, a hardy and gentle man, and his only child Joffrey is set to inherit when he comes of age. Armond's brother Emerick is currently ruling in his stead, residing alongside him was his late wife Clarice and now his two daughters Elinor and Rowena Caswell. Although seen as a minor house in the Reach serving the Tyrells, their daughters go on to make prominent names for themselves through marriage, Elinor marrying heir to the Iron Throne Prince Baelor Targaryen and Rowena marrying Lord Tybolt Lannister who later became Lord of Casterly Rock.

ᴘᴀʀᴀʟʟᴇʟꜱ. ᴀʟɪᴀꜱ.

Ser Triston Fossoway was knighted at 16 years old, and his skills in swordplay were said to be second only to his dear friend and liege, Ser Loras Tyrell.

"The Pride of House Fossoway", Ser Triston carried honor as his duty, refusing to act ill upon others even with commands given by his lords. He was especially known to remain sided with House Bracken despite their initial allegiance opposing the Reach's support, refusing to betray the house where he was knighted, and the house of his dearest lady betrothed. Among other titles, he was known as the "Champion of Maidens" for his devotion not only to his betrothed, but to many women, common and noble, throughout his service.

After the War of the Three Kings, Ser Triston's betrothal would be broken. Instead, he would give the remainer of his life to the Kingsguard, with his name became an inspiration to young knights and instilling goodness in the heart of others.

History would later call him the "Knight of the Orchard"— a name first given in sweet irony for the green and golden sigil of his house, but one that remained for a purer reason. Wherever Ser Triston walked, he was said to leave honor in his wake, as though watering the roots of a dying orchard and waiting patiently for something good to grow.

DAY ONE — GREETINGS.

BACKSTORY / HISTORY / PERSONAL SIGIL / HOUSE COLOUR

daena velaryon was born in 114 AC to her mother, the princess rhaenyra targaryen, and her father, ser laenor velaryon. the girl was notably plain-featured, lacking the valyrian traits possessed by her sire. instead, it was remarked upon that she, and her brother, jaceaerys, held a remarkable resemblance to the commander of the city watch, ser harwin strong.

lord corlys velaryon delighted in the birth of his first granddaughter, no matter the rumours. he would sit the girl on his lap upon his visits, and speak to her of driftmark, how one day, she would sit it's throne and rule over the tides as he did. of course, as she grew, the indulgent promises made to a girl-child were quickly forgotten in favour of daena's younger brother, lucerys. a male heir.

the princess daena, in her girlhood and later years, was often seen draped in the teal and blue of her house, head held high. she gnawed at every scrap of legitimacy she could sink her teeth into, desperate to escape what she knew everyone called her. bastard.

a knight, though none are sure if he ever was truly a knight, who bravely fought against the first men and helped andals amongst him claim the land between the river and the reach as the hive. the first king of the hive, who would later claim descent of the dark bee and choose a crescent moon and beehive as his sigil, and who began an illustrious line that would later hide any wrongdoing of his own until he was known as one of the bravest men westeros had ever seen. as opposed to a backstabber some knew him as.

📜 ASOIAF WEEK 📜 / DAY ONE

THE LADY CROW'S EYE / ARYN GREYJOY NEÉ STARK

🌙 BACKGROUND | HISTORY 🌙

Lady Aryn Stark was the eldest daughter of Rickard Stark, Lord of Winterfell and his wife Lady Lyarra Flint. Their second child, she was raised in Winterfell, educated well and was understood to be witty, quick and intelligent to those that knew her. Some say the green in her eyes that suggested she had the ancient, mythological power of greensight. Versed in matters of running a keep and with knowledge of languages, finance and war; she was the perfect Westerosi bride. Suitors ranging from Lord Roose Bolton to Jaime Lannister were considered.

However, after the fated Tourney of Harrenhall and the deaths of her brother and father, her hand would instead be given to allies of the Stark-Baratheon cause. There was cries that she should be wed to the child-imp of House Lannister to swing the unmoved Tywin, that she should offer herself to the Reach in hope of ceasing the siege of Storm’s End, one fool even suggested Dorne which was laughed from the room. 

There was one other option. Quellon Greyjoy and his Ironmen had remained on Pyke and not pledged for either side. The largest fleet in Westeros could easily raid the coast of the Reach and Dorne, and be the breakthrough the Baratheon alliance needed. 

Aryn Stark, stronger than steel, is said to have taken the perilous journey to Pyke to negotiate her betrothal to the Iron Lords, old enemies of the North and the Rivers. Yet she convinced Lord Quellon, a reformer in her own right, to side with Baratheon’s rebellion. She was given the choice of his unwed sons, and chose his second son Euron to bed. A greenlander rockwife on Pyke was a small price to pay for a Stark victory. 

She birthed two children for House Greyjoy, Darrion, later King Darrion I, and Lyra Greyjoy. She took to travelling across the known world and beyond on her husband’s great ship, the Silence. Collecting knowledge of warlocks, sorcerers and magi, as well as bounties of gold, jewels and rare treasures, she became known as her monicker ‘The Lady Crow’s Eye’. 

But to many she was ‘The Crow’s Eye’s Hand’. A thumbs up and they would be spared from her husband’s raiding and a thumbs down would see their city sacked and ruined.

༺♡♱⋆ ASOIAF OC WEEK: DAY 1

༺♡♱⋆ ɢʀᴇᴇᴛɪɴɢꜱ. ʜɪꜱᴛᴏʀʏ.

Some histories are written in ink. Others survive only in whispers and dreams. Little is known of Lord Martyn Hollowmere and Princess Helaena Targaryen, and what little remains is scattered between court records, half-remembered accounts, and the quiet omissions of those who might once have known the truth. The Hollowmeres were never a house inclined toward notice, and Martyn himself would later become something of a ghost in the histories of the Dance— barely remembered, or more closely forgotten to time.

Yet there are stories of the two having known one another— of a peculiar fondness between the quiet heir of Soul's Rest and the princess who so often seemed to dwell somewhere beyond the waking world.

Whether there was truly more between them, or whether later generations embroidered romance into a handful of fleeting encounters, none can say. Some things are not meant to be remembered plainly.

THE SECOND FALCON QUEEN.

As queen, Alya Arryn leaned heavily on the image of her maiden house, a physical symbol of her own lines meteoric rise to power. She’d often dress in Arryn blues, and donned a crown of silver, even suiting herself a new set of personal arms— the falcon-and-moon on sky blue, with the addition of a silver diadem on the head of the falcon. She had not been the first Arryn queen, though she strived to make herself the most beloved one.

📜— do they have a favorite historical event and / or figure? if so, why? what draws them in?

Rhianne I feel loves Rhaena the Black Bride and would be an inspiration to her. She admires Rhaena's schemes to protect her family, line and children AND unlike other people (re: men) who speak badly of Rhaena Targaryen, Rhianne sees herself in the figure completely. Rhaena is her "she's so me" historical figure.

🕯️— are they religious? what faith do they follow and why? do they pray of habit or true belief?

Rhianne is from the North so she worships the old gods! I feel like most of her praying at the start of her arc is out of habit/duty, but as things keep turning out for the worse her faith is tested and she ends up putting more respect on the old gods than she initially did.

🐉 — if your oc could have ridden any historical dragon, which would it be and why?

My initial answer was Meleys, mostly because aesthetic + I think their temperaments match! Also love the hc that Meleys only takes female riders, I feel like she would loved Rhianne as a rider ❤️

BUT I also feel drawn to say Syrax because Syrax would love to be pampered and Rhianne takes very good care of her pets! Like Rhianne would go out hunting and make sure the meat is clean before she has it all fed to the golden girl

tommen arryn may have lost the tourney at harrenhal, having been unseated by prince rhaegar targaryen in the second to last tilt, but he had won a prize far more valuable than any winner’s laurel. moriah wyl’s favor had adorned his wrist during the joust; a symbol of affection between two young lovers. whilst their union had not been arranged nor approved of by his elder brother, the lord of the vale did little to stop them from pursuing their hearts when the time came. they married in a small sept in the riverlands, before returning home to the vale to live happily ever after…

🛡️— how aligned are they with their house and family in terms of temperament? do they share the same goals? alternatively, do they wish they had been born into another house?

My girl is a walking byproduct of House Bolton! She is Roose's heir in title (ideally) and also in temperament. She is usually calm and has a very cold exterior, though she differs from Roose in that she has occasional bursts of anger when deeply irritated. For a good portion of her arc, she def acts in the interest of her father, though for the rest she does so in the name of being a Bolton :>

Rhianne quite literally moves back and forth between "our house isn't cursed we were raised this way" vs "oh gods its really in our blood." I think if given the opportunity she'd love to be born in an "honorable" house, just so that regardless of whether or not she's raised poorly she at least knows she won't end up the way she is now. Probably as a Stark, or as some noble one in the Reach. Alas, that's wishful thinking.

⚖️ — how are they remembered by history? are they loved, reviled, or something in between? is there anything the history books omit from their life?

OH I actually think she would be fairly liked (given a while) if people were to jot down what good she did for her family! I think historically Ramsay would be painted as the bad guy (deserved) that nearly run the house into the ground, and Rhianne is the one that stepped up after his death and fixed everything! She pulled some (a lot of) strings to get them back on the good graces of the Starks. I think that's enough for her weird habits to be forgotten as time goes, though her preference for her meals would probably remain as rumors.

⏳ — if you had to place them in any other era of westeros, what would it be and why?

My first thought was to honestly put her back in the Vale 😭 She kinda struggled there socially but then again she usually fails to get along with other highborn women anyway. The vibes fit her, she was there for a while, and it's pretty secluded compared to other regions which she would like! My second bet would be the Stormlands, for the same reason that it isnt super populated.

🛡️— how aligned are they with their house and family in terms of temperament? do they share the same goals? alternatively, do they wish they had been born into another house?

I don't think she's ever wished to be in another house! She enjoys being a Bracken (mostly because of all the horses she can ride and play with), and is very proud to be one! I don't think it's in her to genuinely wish to be from another house, aside from the occasional thought that certain things would be easier had she not been born a Bracken. BUT Juliya believes there's always a path to peace and unity, and she likes to think the way one lives should be decided first by who they are before what their house tells them to be.

Generally it seems the Bracken have a knack for being very impulse (and spiteful tbh) and I think it's just less easy to pick at with Juliya since she's more pleasant than some historical counterparts (even her own dad). But she's still wild, untameable, and acts on instinct over introspection which is very Bracken of her. I do think she gets the occasional itch to be mean to people she doesn't like but she always catches herself beforehand and reminds herself to be nice </3

Goals-wise is where I think they differ. She's less about trumping her rivals for bragging rights and more living freely <3

🏰 — if your oc could make their own house from the ground up, what would they name it? what would their words be?

I think she would reaaally fantasize making up her own house! I think she would either name it after a figure she admires (like... Nymeria or something lol) or a place (Pennytree-esque). After living(?) through a war and being part of a centuries long family feud she'd want a house that unites all houses or something of that type.
