“She’s finally asleep.” An excited gasp escaped Maiah’s lips as she leaned away from the bassinet that Margot was sleeping in and threw a small smile over at Teddy. “If we’re quiet, maybe she’ll actually stay asleep.” Maiah really couldn’t complain about being sleep deprived. Most of the time their daughter slept through the night and wasn’t too fussy, but it did take awhile to get her to sleep. “--I missed you today.” When Margot was first born they naturally had a lot more time to spend with each other, but now that a few months had pass, their schedules were starting to pick up again. Leaning over towards him, she placed her lips against his, but before she could even think about deepening the kiss, she heard the tiny giggles of their daughter. “...I swear she’s doing this on purpose now.” @teddyrobbins​

“Look at this. Isn’t it cute?” Maiah held up a tiny stuffed bunny with a small smile on her lips, before she placed it back in the bassinet near her. “My mother sent it for Margot.” She paused for a moment, not really wanting to bring up the next subject. Everything had been going pretty smoothly for the two of them. They were able to find another apartment, big enough for their growing family. In every checkup they went to, the baby was healthy, and they were happily married.

The only problem that she really had was the lack of support from her mother, which was something that she had to deal with from a distance, but things would change for awhile. “Speaking of my mom, the other day, she was telling me that she wanted to come up...I already talked to her about her behavior. She said that she just wanted to see how I was doing.--Also she’ll be here in a few hours...Sorry.” @teddyrobbins

Teddy had woken up before Maiah, so he decided to get up and attempt to make breakfast for her. His mom had sent him her wedding ring set earlier in the week, and now that they were officially married, he couldn’t wait to surprise her with it. She had assured him that she didn’t need a ring or anything, but Teddy still wanted to get her one so he was thankful when his mom mentioned passing down her rings to him.

His plan was to surprise her with the rings after they ate, but breakfast wasn’t going nearly as smoothly as he would have liked. He’d thought pancakes would have been pretty easy to make, but he was wrong. As he was cleaning up his horrible attempt at breakfast, he heard Maiah getting up. “Hey, sorry if the smell woke you” he said with a small laugh as he turned to greet her. “I ordered some breakfast, since my attempt at it failed, so it should be here soon.” he said finishing up cleaning before going over to give her a sweet kiss. “Good morning, Mrs. Robbins” he said with a big smile, “Did two you sleep okay?” he asked as he brought his hand up to gently rub her swollen tummy. @maikovich

If Maiah was being honest with herself, she knew that she should have woke up the moment that she heard dishes clattering in the kitchen. Something told her that Teddy would be needing her help, but she stayed comfortably wrapped up in her blankets. It wasn’t until the faint burnt smell caught her attention that she finally got herself up from the bed. Her pace had become significantly slower as her belly continued to grow, so she couldn’t shuffle to the kitchen as fast as she would like to.

When she finally made it, a small smile curled up on her lips. Sure the apartment might have a lingering burning smell, but she really appreciated the fact that Teddy was willing to wake up earlier than her to make breakfast. “It’s always the thought that counts. Thank you, Teddy.” She was quick to kiss him back. “Good morning, Mr. Robbins.” Maiah repeated the greeting. “I can’t say that I slept too much. Margot is becoming really active at night. But it’s a welcome disturbance, so I don’t mind.--What about you? How did you sleep? And what made you cook breakfast this morning?”

Once he had suggested it, he worried that it may put a little stress on Maiah, but her excitement quickly wiped away any worry he may have had. He smiled brightly at her as he helped her off of the couch, “I know I don’t have much when it comes to nice clothes, but I’m sure I’ll be able to find something” he said with a small nod before following her to the bedroom. At the mention of her new name, his smile just grew even more. He had honestly never felt as happy as he did now that he was with Maiah. There wasn’t anyone else he would rather spend the rest of his life with than her. He began to dig around through his clothes, tossing a few possible shirts onto the bed, but he stopped at her question. It was a good question really. Teddy had almost told Al about the engagement, but he had chickened out at the last minute, but only because he knew Al wouldn’t have been happy with the whole thing. He was going to be even more unhappy with him now that he was going to be telling him he was married now. Thinking of that then made him think of Emily and what her reaction would be. No matter what, people were most likely going to be upset with them, but at the end of the day all that mattered was their happiness.

 “I think we’re going to have to” he said with a small laugh. He made his way over to her, placing his hands on her hips gently as he smiled down at her, “people might be upset, but don’t let it get to you, okay? We’re both happy and love each other so there’s nothing wrong with us running off and getting married. Oka,y maybe we should have told some people, but it isn’t the end of the world” he said before shrugging his shoulders slightly, “besides, isn’t being unpredictable sort of our thing now?” he asked with a small laugh, “People may be mad at first, but they’ll be happy for us eventually” he leaned down and kissed her forehead, “I think we do need a witness though now that I’m thinking about it… So do you have anyone in mind that would be available in like thirty minutes?” he asked.

“That’s okay. We don’t have to dress too nice. We’ll just make sure to go over the top when we have our big wedding ceremony.” Truthfully, Maiah never really put much thought into a big wedding or a wedding day in general. She had always thought that it would be so far off in the future, that she wouldn’t have to plan for it soon, but of course life didn’t really go the way she had thought. Something that she was more than happy about. “I think your mom would be happy.” She replied. At this point, their impulsive habits had become second nature to her. Maiah used to be surprised with how easy it was for her to just make a decision purely based on instinct with Teddy. But it was one of things that she loved about being with him. He made her a little more spontaneous. “Everyone else, who will be upset about it, will get over it.” Maiah was quick to dismiss it. This was their wedding day. They could worry about it later. Leaning up, she placed a soft sweet kiss on his lips, before she actually put some thought into who could be a witness for them. She wasn’t sure if there was anyone that would be free in time, except for...”My dad. I don’t think he works today and he’s pretty supportive, so he shouldn’t have a problem being a witness.”

A bright smile came to his face when she agreed, “let’s get married, Maiah” he repeated back, the smile on his face growing even more. It was still funny to him that he had gone from never wanting any of this, to wanting and being excited by all of it. He was going to be a father in just a few months, and now he was going to be marrying Maiah, the girl he had spent so long convincing himself he did not like. It was funny how life worked out sometimes and honestly everything was so perfect now. He couldn’t be happier and for once in his life, he was actually truly happy. He looked down at his phone to check the time before looking back up at her, the big smile still on his face “there’s still plenty of time to do it today, so why not?” he asked before hopping up from the couch. He reached a hand out to help her up from the couch, “should we change into something else? Obviously we don’t have a wedding dress and suite, but I’m sure we could find some nice clothes to wear” he said, shrugging his shoulders a little. He then turned to her, the smile still big on his face as he looked at her,  “I can’t believe this is happening” he said before taking her hand in his, “I can’t even begin to tell you how happy I am right now. Honestly, I didn’t even think I could smile as big I’m smiling right now” he said with a small laugh before adding, “let’s go get changed so we can get married!” he said again, his excitement clear on his face and in his tone.

“Today?” Maiah’s eyes widened in surprise at his suggestion, but she definitely wouldn’t object to it. There’s no way a year ago, she thought that her life would be at such a great place. She never would have thought that she would be getting married to Teddy, well more like eloping, with a baby on the way. She couldn’t be happier that this was the twist her life had taken, though. Maiah happily took his hand and slowly got up from the couch. “We should definitely dress up. I think I still have a dress that might fit. It might be a little tight though.” She replied as she began to walk towards the bedroom. “From today on, I’ll be Maiah Robbins.--Are we going to tell anyone?” They had been pretty hushed about their engagement, but this would definitely be something that would be harder to hide.

Adjusting to having one arm was harder than Athena thought, scrunching her face as she stared at the drink and food in front of her. There was no way she was going to be able to carry both at the same time and she didn’t really want to make multiple trips. Covering the sling with her jacket, the redhead smiled at the person beside her. “I’ll buy you your meal if you can help me carry my food. I only have one arm and I’m really not that graceful to be able to get both to a table.”

Honestly before she had even asked, Maiah was considering asking if she needed some help. She could clearly see that it was about to be a struggle for the female beside her, but she also didn’t want to upset her, so the moment that she asked, Maiah quickly nodded her head with a small smile on her lips. “It’s free of charge.” She said, holding out her hand, so the redhead could hand her the food.

“So typical that my brand new apartment has mice, isn’t it? I guess that’s New York punishing me for trying to leave it in the first place. My landlady says that there’s not a mouse problem, that I had to have just been seeing things, so I guess I have to say fuck it and go adopt a cat. Care to join me to the shelter?”

“Oh no!” Maiah’s nose scrunched up slightly at the thought. “They’re not too big are they?” She asked, but the question was easily forgotten as Emily mentioned cats. “Will I go to a shelter with you?” She shook her head amusingly. “It would be my extreme pleasure to go. Just keep reminding me that you’re the only one adopting a cat today.”

“Yeah, that’s very true” he said nodding his head, “and it isn’t like it’s causing anyone harm by calling you my wife. You practically are” he said with a small laugh. Maiah had probably been joking when she said they should just elope, but it made Teddy stop and think for a second. They already acted like a married couple and eloping would probably be easier on her with her being pregnant and what not, so why not? “I mean eloping doesn’t sound that bad” he said bringing his shoulders up into a small shrug, “I mean honestly, nothing is stopping us from going to courthouse and just getting married now” he added. He then took her hands in hers as he turned to face her better, a big smile on her face “I mean just think about it, Mai. It would be so much easier on us since we’re preparing for Margot and working on moving. Plus, we could always just have an actual wedding once she gets here” his expression softened a little as he looked at her, “honestly, I just want you to be my wife already. You mean the world to me and neither of us have any doubts that we love one another. I think we should just do it. Doing crazy unexpected things is sort of our thing, isn’t it?” he said with a small laugh. 

Maiah had nodded her head along in agreement. They practically were married. The only thing that stood between it was a signed paper, but what she didn’t expect was for him to agree with her joke. He did have a point though. There was no way that they had the time to focus on a wedding ceremony, while also trying to prepare for Margot and besides a huge part of her did want to be married before their daughter arrived. So with a bright smile growing on her lips, she gave her answer before saying a word. “You’re absolutely right. We can always plan something later, but if we’re both so sure, then I don’t see any reason to wait. Let’s get married, Teddy.”

Teddy smiled, “okay great, I can let him know whenever I get to work tomorrow” he said before she could finish, but then paused for a moment as he thought about what he had said. He then let out a small laugh as he brought his hand up to scratch at his head, “I did, didn’t I? Now I’m worried I’ve just been running around calling you my wife” he said, but then shrugged his shoulders a little, “I mean it’s not far from being right, we are engaged and all so it’s not a bad thing if I have been right?” he asked. “I’ll make sure to clear things up with him tomorrow before the lunch though. Sorry about that, Mai. I guess I’m just so excited for you to be my wife already” he said with another small laugh before planting a small kiss to the top of her head.

Honestly, Maiah was curious to hear what he says about her. According to his mother and Al, it was nothing but good things, which she found humorous considering their past. “There’s really no need to clear it up, right? We’ll be married soon enough.” She said that with such confidence that it made her pause. “You know, we never talked about a wedding. What do you imagine? And please don’t say that you’ll let me plan it all, because if that’s the case, we might as well elope.”

Teddy had had a long day at work, but he was finally home for the day. He greeted Maiah quickly before heading to the bedroom so he could change out of his work clothes. Once he was done, he made his way out to the living room where Maiah was playing one of her games. When she was at a point where he wouldn’t interrupt her, he leaned over and gave her a sweet kiss before wrapping his arm around her shoulders. “So, I was wondering if you’d be free to come have lunch with me at work tomorrow. My boss keeps telling me how badly he wants to meet my wife, so I thought that would be way for you two to finally meet!” he said happily, not even noticing the fact he had said wife instead of fiance. “So, what do you say?” he asked, smiling over at her. @maikovich

Maiah gave a nod of acknowledgement when Teddy greeted her. It was normally hard to break her concentration once she was deeply into a game, but she made sure to quickly get to a place in the game where she could finally pause it. Finally, giving him a proper greeting with a kiss, Maiah had snuggled up close to him. Lately, she had been getting tired far more easily than normal as her pregnancy progressed. “I can have lun...” She stopped speaking as she caught what he said, making a smile curl up on her lips. “Did you just call me your wife?”

Honestly, she wouldn’t have stepped foot in the store if it wasn’t for the family that she was a nanny for. “I can only hope that my daughter is as easily amused by things as my boyfriend is. That way I don’t have to buy her too many toys.” Maiah almost found herself laughing at her statement. “What kind of toys are you looking for? Maybe I can help you find something cheaper.”

I’m a little bit more comfortable. I love wearing jeans, and I don’t wear stockings. I like to be comfortable but I also like to look put together all the time. I don’t wear dresses all the time–it’s nice to save those moments for certain occasions and to make it feel extra special. In the ‘30s, every day was an event. And, as much as I love that idea, I think nowadays it’s nice to have the differentiation of when you dress up and when you don’t. I think it makes it a little bit more special.

Maiah listened quietly to what he had to say. She knew he had it rough when he first moved to New York, but she never truly knew how bad it might have been. She was honestly so glad that he found Emily during then. “I’m happy that you had Emily. I’m sure that couldn’t have been easy all that time.” She gave his hand a soft squeeze as she spoke. “Honestly, I think it’s Margot helping you out, but I’ll take a little credit for it.” Maiah gave him a small smile as she happily kissed him back. “And to think, instead of ignoring me, you could have been loving me.” She teased. “I should have admitted it too. So I guess that’s on both of us.--And you never have to worry about speaking what’s on your mind, Teddy.” Maiah was honestly surprise that he was apologizing for having a deep conversation. She loved that he was opening up even more. “I’m going to be your wife. We should be able to discuss these things.”
