“Right, uh huh” she mumbles, kissing him softly. “Tell that to your graying hair” she adds with a chuckle. . “But seriously, I just haven’t been able to shake this feeling of, I don’t know, just not feeling right. There was a time where I used to be supermom. I could do everything. Now it’s almost like asking the kids to fend for themselves. I feel like a bad mom.”

“Hey!” Alex responded to the fact she said he had a certain hair colour as he didn’t wish to accept the fact he was getting old and it showed. “You are a bad mom, and you’ve always been,” he joked as he kissed her back. “You should just raid some meds and make yourself feel better”

Jo made her way to an open oncall room down the hall from the Peds wing. She was feeling a little worse for ware, but nothing overly concerning. Doctors get sick too after all. All she needed was a little rest and she’d be good as new.

She slipped into the room and closed the door, letting out a long sigh. “Oh my goodness, when did we get so old? I used to stay up for 36 hours at a time. Now it’s like I need to sleep every night!” she huffs, flopping onto the bed. “I mean seriously. Being old sucks”.

Alex was already on the bed as he entered the room a few minutes before her, “hey, you might be old but I’m freaking young. I can go another 33 hours easy but somebody has to make sure your ass doesn’t get herself fired with your sickness record as of late,”

Jo: Somehow that doesn’t seem correct. Where are you? We can both run off and nap and leave the interns to fend for themselves.

Alex: It’s correct enough to me.. and I’m just about to head to an on-call. Come meet me? Interns are good enough to kill only one person. We’ll be fine

Jo: I’d prefer they don’t kill anyone, but that’s just me. Okay. We’ll lock the door and turn off the light. No one will know.

Alex: might be wishful thinking, These interns aren’t the best bunch. Sure, hurry up. I’ll lock the room without you

Alex: I paid that debt. I brought you pizza last week. Can’t use that card on me again, sorry. I’ll sleep 10 hours and you can catch about 6? Deal? Deal

When did I become so old? I can’t get through a twelve hour shift anymore without needing to find an oncall room part way through.

“Old.. Or are you trying to relive your youth? You know what oncall rooms were used for back in the day”

“Half our kids wouldn’t be born”

“I’m pretty sure old is the word” she says with a small chuckle. “And not that I want to think about my interns that way but I’m pretty sure they’re still used for that now too.”

“Oh yeah.. they’re definitely used for that still. I caught interns about to go in so I made sure to leave them to it. Who am I to stop them? Also, you’re so old. Dude, where’d the time go for us?”

Oliver laughed a little. “I guess…but then I rarely leave food around.” He chuckled.

“It’s because I raised you right. Eat the damn food in front of you, or somebody else will”

“I’m their teacher, not their babysitter or their STD preventer,” Amelia countered. “The way you keep saying I need to get a good look and teach them better is not helping you in any way, shape or form, so you should probably just stop,” she added. “Your intern, your problem.”

“Rude. I’ve shared plenty of chips with you.”

“Yeah my intern but they’re useless anyways.. So.. let’s leave them there. They’ll only get in my way if I go get them” Alex smiled as he placed a chip into his mouth, going deliberately slower to annoy Amelia. “Fine. You can half a freaking potato chip and that’s all”

“Oh, I don’t know, is that really all you want?” she ask, smirking at him.

“Well I suppose I could buy a brand new car too, I mean don’t you want that?”

“But if we buy everything we want we’d blow through the kids college funds, then how are we ever going to get them out of the house and working so we can retire?”

“You make a freaking good point, and this is why I married you. Somebody to keep track of our life. We’ll kick them out and retire soon enough, right?”

“Well I suppose I could buy a brand new car too, I mean don’t you want that?”

“Good, because I’m starving!” she says, placing a kiss softly on his neck. Your wife must be pretty great then.”

“She’s alright.. She nags on occasion, but who doesn’t?”

“Also I’m thinking we could sell our kids and buy a bigger TV? You say it and I’ll make it happen”

“Rude” Jo says, fake pouting. “Just for that, I’m taking another bite.” “Nah, we should probably keep the kids.”

“Keep the kids.. right.. right..”

“Can we get a bigger TV too though?”

I already yelled at them, I’d rather not go back to see if they listened,” she stated.

“I walked in on two interns getting it on in the washroom today,” Amelia said, shaking her head. “I’ve gotta say.. if you’re going to do that, at least go into a stall, or a lockable supply closet. Right there in the open though? That would not be my first choice.” She paused. “I mean, I was not that stupid when I was an intern. I was never that stupid, period. Not even back in my tumor days when I had very little impulse control. Even if that kind of open space gives you a thrill, it’s not the best idea. Go to a forest or a store’s changing room.”
