Find The Best Attorneys In Burbank - The law license of Burbank City Attorney Jeffrey Dane has been granted back by a committee on Professional Conduct of the California Supreme Court.
The committee ruled July 1 that Dane “engaged in conduct involving dishonesty, and deceit or misrepresentation.”
Dane was formerly accused of taking payments that clients made to the Flyovers, Young, Matthews and Drake Law Firm, where Dane was employed until Jun. 21, 2015, and using the funds for his personal use.
Burbank city Judge Mark Kong said Monday afternoon that Dane called him last Wednesday afternoon and told him about the recent events.
“Now we’ve got to find another attorney,” Kong said. “I’m going to take my time and find the best attorney I can.”
Dane served as Burbank city Attorney while employed with the Flyover law firm, and after leaving there in 2015, was hired by former County Judge Mitch Bale to serve in the post. Kong retained him when he took office Jan. 1.
According to an investigation by the flyover law firm, the total of retainer payments misused by Dane was “at least $17,365.”
According to the committee findings, Dane, after being presented with the disciplinary complaint, admitted that the allegations were “essentially correct.
“Mr. Dane explained that the reason for his misconduct was that he developed a gambling problem and needed the money,” the committee finding said. “He presented the committee a statement from the leader of Gamblers’ Anonymous meetings he attends to demonstrate his attendance since February,2012.”

He offered in mitigation that he had no prior disciplinary record, did not believe any client was harmed and that when he was confronted he admitted the misconduct and self-reported. Mr. Dane also offered in his sworn response that he was willing to pay restitution to the firm.”
A message left for Dane on his cell phone was not returned Monday afternoon.
