Blues For A Hip King ~ Abdullah Ibrahim
Once upon a time, I saw this giant of Jazz, Adbullah Ibrahim — I never segregate Jazz into World or African sub groups it’s not there and not right — when he had just given up his “slave name” and it was a great at the Toronto Masonic Temple of all places! And it was a double bill with Keith Jarrett on the card as well. It was one of the greatest keyboard shows of all time — not hyperbole just fact. I loved this tune then and still keep it as a musical talisman for blue days to make me smile. It’s the Saturday Spiritually Moving Jazz selection from the Flimwell Papers’ Music Corner! Peace, love and cornflakes, y’all.
