Phainon delights in assigning himself micro-roles as your one and only. He's your loyal bag carrier, your sturdiest shoulder-to-lean-on, your devout appraiser, and, your most diligent bug repellant. A knight in broom and dustpan, or cup and paper, who always has half his wits fixed on making sure no bugs intrude upon your vicinity, or if they do, they're quickly dealt with.
Miss harmony what do you think lil phaipie's ideal type would be? he is someone who has never prioritised himself, his wellbeing or happiness it makes me feel so sad i know we talk about how loving he can be with his treasure in fics but in reality i don't even know how he would really be feeling or react once he catch any feelings at all knowing the situation they are all in and the burdens on his shoulders. he seems to enjoy sparing, debating and apparently has eyes for valuables (i love his hobbys omg) and he is easygoing and seems pretty social too so i wonder what would make him think about someone in that way. he is surrounded by people and things as he is living a quite..busy life lol so what do you think would make him feel different about that person and feel at ease with them, and what would be the things that drives him away or be the reason that person is slapped into friendzone territory, he is an interesting character and u get him well so i wanna know what you think.

I feel like I've answered this same question a long time ago, but let's revisit it with a fuller perspective :3 There's like.. four different questions here so bare with me.
Case 1: Not taking the healthiness of the relationship into consideration.
I've said it a few times, but I personally can picture Phainon with people of any personality. Regardless of how far they are from his values, his own personality or preferences — and on the matter of preferences, we end up scratching our heads. Because Phainon himself is pretty uncertain.
This in turn is linked to the period of his life which he passed by trying to model himself to be ‘the blank slate’ of the people's wishes. Phainon's nature is such that he'll always care about the people around him more, regardless of the circumstances. Which gives him fewer opportunities to thoroughly explore himself, and us more opportunities to pair him with people of vast range.
And when our priority is on the dynamic of the pairing, rather than how healthy it is objectively, we end up with all sorts of fun and danger.
Case 2: Taking the healthiness of the relationship into consideration.
For the ideal relationship for Phainon, the qualities that I would list are — kindness, good communication and loyalty. But then again, these three are the prerequisites of any healthy relationship.. so you see how we come back to square one.
Among those three qualities, I'd emphasize good communication the most. Someone who can at times confront him and/or give him a wake up call, bluntly if possible, instead of bottling things inside (just like him) is sure to do him good in the long run. Someone who will say clearly that [x] thing is making them uncomfortable, doing [y] would be better for them. And most importantly, someone who can teach/encourage Phainon to be able to communicate his feelings the same way.
Q. What would Phainon find most attractive in a person?
I have two answers for this one and they're actually complimentary to each other.
I think Phainon would find passionate people incredibly attractive. People who are passionate about a certain cause, a goal, an art form, a personal world view, a hobby. Nothing would charm him more instantaneously than someone who gives pieces of themselves to something they're passionate about and creates something new out of that love. To him, those are beautiful things indeed.
And linked to this but not confined to: someone who is unapologetically themself. Or, someone who knows themself, their preferences, and has a really clear grasp of the world as they have observed it. Contrary to himself, funnily enough. But these are the kinds of people who can inspire him, who can make him feel grounded. Regardless of how chaotic or calm they are, Phainon would become fond of them.
You don't need to act a certain way or believe things that perfectly align with his own, you just have to be yourself. Phainon's perceptiveness is no joke. From the moment you enter his vicinity, he's already dissecting and analyzing your every cue. In many cases, he understands the people around him better than they do themselves. So, really, you just have to be yourself, and unapologetically so, and the rest will be done by Phainon.

Q. What gives Phainon the ick?
Are you Lygus? Are you someone from the Destruction? No? Then you're safe. /hj
Okay, I say this because those are the only two beings he's expressed clear hate for. Other than the Black Tide and, if you want to count, himself. Everyone else, even if they gave him the occasional ick (like Caenis and the Cleaners), are nowhere near the loathing those two invoke within him.
In general, Phainon also tends to be the type to look for the good in others all the time. So, you have to be one hell of a nasty person in order to turn him off.
There are many circumstances that'll contribute to him ‘slapping someone to the friendzone’, it just won't be one thing.
This is my personal opinion, but the one thing that I can 100% see giving Phainon the ick is animal cruelty. It's a little more debatable with his later iterations. But Phainon in general would not like seeing anyone hurting animals for sport, nor would he tolerate it.
