Lou’s tutor, who mainly specialises in humanities subjects, thinks we need to employ someone else to cover the sciences with Louise. They think it’s a waste that she can’t use the lab, so they’ve passed on the details of a friend who could fulfill the role suitably. I’m not sure how I feel… we’ve left Sherlock’s lab as it was. I mean it’s tidy but there’s even his notebooks still out…

We’ll probably do it though, he’d want us to. He used to spend hours with Louise in there showing her bits and pieces…

John. Don’t feel you need to decide now. Go home and make yourself a pot of tea and rest. We’ll be back in a little while; training went really well again today, we think she’ll hit her goals on Friday.

The only thing I am hating about my shifts at the surgery is leaving Louise before she’s properly awake in the morning, so I don’t really get to see her. James and I usually have breakfast together on work days, which is lovely. But I miss Bee so much whilst I’m here…

She misses you too. Sometimes she forgets you’re out and shouts ‘Morning Daddy’ and then there’s a little ‘Oh’. It’s fine though. We have a routine and you were going to go slowly crazy staying here all the time, John, you know that.

I think maybe… I’m just having a bit of shitty day, made a referral for someone to have tests for leukaemia…

Don’t make me regret my decision.

Louise seemed very happy with it. I was perfectly happy being Uncle James, but she felt that was a little distancing, and not a true reflection of my role. And to think she was so angry about my involvement with her fathers at first, not for their sake, but for this very reason; she did not want another parent, but I feel perhaps that the change in circumstances with Sherlock forced her hand. Maybe if he was still with us I’d still be Uncle James, but it doesn’t do to dwell on ifs, buts and maybes.

There is coffee, and I left some of those muffins you like out to defrost last night, so you’re all set. Is there anything on your to do list that isn’t urgent or that I can take off your hands? I don’t want you burning out.

It’s mostly admin things that I need to get done, phonecalls and bits. We can split the list. We’ll need to keep an eye on Bee today too, if she’s tired we might be in for a day of it.

We still need to sit her down and have that conversation we planned for yesterday too…
