I met him for the first time when I was in the third grade in elementary school and skated in my first gala. Takahashi-senshu kindly talked to me who was extremely nervous in the locker room. I said to him “I was moved by your performance of ‘The phantom of the opera’ at the Japanese Nationals 2006. I watched it closely as I worked as a flower boy! I loved it very much. I stared at him with my heart racing before he took the ice. Then he started gliding silently and smoothly. It made me so happy. I watched him until the end of the practice.

Regarding Vancouver Olympics, I got so tensed up, more than when I skate, that I didn’t even remember it. After it was over, I watched the recorded video and recalled it. I was really tensed that much. But during his skate in Sochi, I just prayed “he can skate to the end safely” because I knew his injury.

Japanese National Championships was the only competition where I could skate with him. So I was always looking forward to it very much. I have practiced hard, thinking “I want to watch him more closely!” “I can’t get closer to him, unless I become a better skater!” It was like a dream to skate with him in the same stage called JN.

The warm-up of the JN last year was a gem among gems. I was proud that my dream to skate with him in the same group came true.

I wanted him to come back to competitions after taking rest. I had thought that I had to practice more and more in order to participate in the same competitions with him.

Still I haven’t been able to find any words on his retirement. Probably I will realize the fact when JN starts.

For me, Daisuke Takahashi is just the only one.

Why we got “The Final Problem” twice, five years apart

“The Final Problem” is a Holmes story written by Doyle in 1893. In this story, Sherlock Holmes and James Moriarty fell to their death and the Victorian fandom revolted at the sudden loss of their favorite literary character.

Gatiss and Moffat adapted “The Final Problem” in 2012 and called it “The Reichenbach Fall” instead. Makes sense why – Sherlock fell off of that waterfall in the story.

But it’s what comes after that matters the most.

Doyle revived Holmes in a story called “The Empty House”. Moffat and Gatiss copied that by naming the next episode “The Empty Hearse”. However, it is important to note that “The Empty House” was not the only story Moffat and Gatiss used in their episode. If you know your Doyle, which hopefully you do by now, you know he wrote a short story called “The Lost Special” which is thought to be a Sherlock Holmes story in disguise. The word “Special” in this case refers to a train car. “The Lost Special” is the case Sherlock and John try to solve in “The Empty Hearse”. It’s the case where the train car is lost, hidden beneath Sumatra Road, and rigged with explosives right below Parliament. So, you can now see “The Empty Hearse” actually had dual roles – it was a mixture of “The Empty House” and “The Lost Special”.

Since you can’t kill off Sherlock Holmes – metaphorically or literally – then there must be an episode that takes place immediately after “The Final Problem”. BBC Sherlock just jumped to its symbolic death. But, like every character who fakes a suicide, it will revive when you least expect it.

First we had “The Reichenbach Fall” (based off the Final Problem) which leads to “The Empty Hearse” (Based off The Lost Special). This was figurative.

Next we will see “The Final Problem” lead into “The Lost Special”. This is literal.

Steven Moffat even told us with his own words. When asked about the possibility of a secret fourth episode, he said this:

He told us. He made a joke of it but he told us a fourth episode is coming. This isn’t him saying random words that just happen to fit everything – he’s making a fool of you by throwing Doyle references your way without you knowing. He think’s he’s so clever.

Well, Moff, you can’t trick us with those ridiculous lies any longer. You have stumbled upon a group of people who are just as clever as you.
