ᯓ★ Bakugou x fem!reader

•◦❥◦• Summary! : Katsuki only expected the best from those damn support students. It was people like him that made him able to do what he does best, blast nobodies into hell! So of course when he goes to the support course building he goes to find the very best support student he can. All road lead to… you.
⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘
Katsuki walks through the halls of the support building, scowling at every student he walks by. He would just send the broken gauntlets in like everyone else but he wanted to make sure they got fixed correctly. What better way to do so than by taking matters into his own hands? He sees a particular student standing alone, surprising since most students have already gone back to their dorms, he marches up to them and yells a little too loudly, “Which one of you damn extras is the best?” The student jumps and looks up at the much taller Hero Student, “Oh-! Uhm- That would— well— if you, uh, our class president is Ms.Y/N!” He manages to spit out.
Katsuki sighs, “Where would I find her?” He mutters already having wasted enough of his time talking to this dweeb. “Room J, sir— er—man..” Katsuki gives the student a weird look before going to find room J. Where supposedly the best of the Support Students would be. He could only hope you knew how to actually talk. He shoves his hands in his pockets, watching the classroom letters as he goes by each. Finally reaching J he almost kicks the door off its hinges. He would’ve hoped to grab the attention of this class president, but what he sees is a hunched over girl. Nose deep in a project, headphones on while she works, at least three cups of coffee on her desk. Not to mention the mess that your desk is. Paperwork left and right, tools, parts, etc. You must be working late. He watches for a moment, a little surprised you haven’t noticed the presence in the room yet.
He watches as you knock about five things off your desk while reaching for one. He’s almost positive you couldn’t be the class president. You must be just some random student, another extra in his way to finding the best one to fix his stuff. He huffs and walks over to your desk, standing there for a moment looking down at you. Your glasses are clearly too big for your face, your hair is a mess, your clothes covered in oil, dirt— is that ash? What was up with this chick? He watches you, you still don’t notice him! What kind of world were you living in?
He reaches out and puts a hand on your desk, leaning. That’s when you notice him, a couple inches too close, you let out a startled yelp and fall backward, bringing about ten things with you as you hit the ground. You quickly scramble to your feet, tearing off your headphones, “What the hell are you doing in here?” You say defensively. He almost laughs at your irritated face but he still has to complete his objective.
He takes off his backpack and pulls out his fried gauntlets, “Need these fixed.” He says, if you judged this interaction based on his face alone you’d think this was a normal conversation, that he didn’t just invade someone’s workspace. “Did you turn in your forms?” You ask fixing your glasses, about to reach for them but he pulls them out of your reach.
“Of course I did, I’m looking for the class president, Y/N?” He says with a no nonsense tone. You look confused for a second before scoffing and crossing your arms, “I’m the class president.” You say, getting thrown into a glaring match with the Hero student.
“You sure about that?” He scowls at you. “From what I’ve seen it looks like you're nothing more than a clumsy extra who is wasting my time.” He steps closer, his glare getting fiercer.
“You sure you’re in the hero course? Cuz all I can see is a wannabe tough guy who breaks his tools like someone didn’t spend hours making that shit for him.” He’s surprised you don’t back down, he feels a tick of anger in him.
His hands start sparking, making small pops, “You wanna take this outside? I’ll blast you to hell!!” He yells, now you’re both really in each other's faces.
“Shouldn’t a hero have more composure than this? You really should work on that temper of yours.” You grin knowing you’re getting under his skin. Your faces are inches apart.
“Shouldn’t a class president have more competency than this?” You roll your eyes, "That's the best you can do? When you can come up with a—“
There’s a loud bang in the other room and another student comes running in, you both immediately back up from each other, realizing how this might look to someone else. The student is panting and covered in some mysterious liquid, “Y/N! We need your help!” You scoff and take off running after the student, yelling back at Katsuki, “Throw your shit on the desk, I’ll get to it when I can!” You’re almost out of the room when you hear him yell back.
“Don’t tell me what to do, you damn extra!!” You just huff, you had bigger concerns.
He watches you leave, you get on his nerves. And he only talked to you for a couple minutes and he felt his heart beating faster out of anger. He hates being told what to do, but he needs these fixed so he drops them on your desk before shoving his hands in his pockets again and stomping out of the support building. He hated you already. Damn nerd.
⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘
Not even a couple days later as he’s coming back from all his classes, tired, he wants to shower and eat and go to sleep. But as he walks into his dorms and up to his room, ignoring the extras who followed him around, he sees a box outside his door. A simple plain white box but it’s tied with a pink ribbon. He already feels his blood boil, who the fuck left this?
He opens the box expecting some sort of prank from shitty hair or that other idiot, but finds brand new gauntlets. They look slightly different, and feel heavier. As he takes them out of the box he sees a handwritten note at the bottom;
Since your stupid ass can’t keep a lid on how powerful your explosions are, I made the material around your equipment more durable to put up with it better. They’ll be slighter heavier, if there’s a problem, get stronger. xoxo - The CLASS PRESIDENT.
He clenches his jaw and makes a small ‘tsk’ sound before going into his room. He’d try those out tomorrow, hopefully that damn geek didn’t ruin his tools. He huffs and plops down on his bed, his forearm over his eyes. He thinks back to when he met you, how you didn’t back down from his gaze. How, in fact, you got closer. Challenging him right back. How when he threatened you, you didn’t seem to have an ounce of fear in you. He hated you. He’s still holding the note in his hands. He hated you.
The next day he’s testing out his brand new equipment in hero training. Against Sato, a good opponent but nothing like what he wanted to test them out on - someone like Kirishima. But Katsuki got what he got, and when he ripped an explosion on Sato he felt his own arm knock back. What power! He hadn’t felt like his power was too much for him since kindergarten! He grins manically and goes wild.
Of course Katsuki won the training session, even without the gauntlets he could do that. But he had to know, he had to ask, what did you do? His old ones weren’t nearly as powerful.
So after the day ends he marches into the Support course building, yet again, but this time not stopping until he got to room J. He barges in again, but this time you’re not with your back toward the door. But rather standing up examining forms, and this time you notice him immediately. A scowl immediately forming on your face as you fix your glasses, “What do you want?” You say leaning against the table you were standing at.
He just huffs, folding his arms over his chest, “What did you do… to make them stronger?” He mutters.
“Excuse me?” You say.
“What did you do to make the gauntlets stronger?” He puts more emphasis onto each syllable, like you were stupid.
“What are you stupid? Can’t read? I told you in the note, I changed out the material.” You say.
“I read the damn note!” He yells, “But you did something else, what?” He says.
You sigh, “Goodness gracious, you can’t have any whimsy or unknown in your life?” You pause, seeing his determined face, why did he want to know so bad? “I put gunpowder around the openings, so when your explosions went off it would go twice. I honestly didn’t think it would work.” You fix your glasses yet again, “I’m glad it did though. Can you tell me what happened?” You grab an empty notepad, and gesture to a chair, he stays standing. Staring.
He explains it in the most minimal detail he can. You write it down as he talks and don’t bother looking up at him, you can feel his glaring eyes on you. Once he’s done you look back up, “Done?”
He nods.
“Good. You can leave then, thanks for the intel.” You say tearing off the paper on the notepad, turning your back to him as you walk to your work desk. You look at him over your shoulder, he’s not leaving. You sigh and face him again, “Yes?”
He glares at you, “What?”
“What yourself. Can’t hear? Get lost.” You say a little harsher than you mean to, but oh well.
He stares at you for a second before looking away, “If I have something that needs to get fixed… Can I keep bringing it to you?” He says, his tone a little softer. Just a little.
You realize he’s genuinely asking, probably something that doesn’t happen very often. You decide to tease him a little, “Oh? Me? Moi? You want this.. hm.. what did you call me?” You put a finger on your lips, fake thinking, “Clumsy extra to work on your precious equipment?” He scowls.
“You know what? Never mind—“
You laugh, “No, no, wait. Sorry.” You walk over to him. “I think we got off on the wrong foot.” You hold your hand out, “I’d be happy to work on your things for you.” He stares at your hand, as he reaches for it you pull away a little. Just like he did when you reached for his gauntlets. “On one condition.”
He scoffs and rolls his eyes. “Spit it out.”
You grin, “Stop barging into my workspace. It ruins the entire vibe.” He can’t tell if you’re kidding or not. But he just nods, you extend your hand again. This time not pulling away as he shakes it.
“Fine.”
“Thank you.”
“Shut it.” He mutters, letting go of your hand. A wave of silence falls over the two of you. He clenches his jaw.
“I’ve got work to do.” You break the silence, “See you around.” You turn away and sit at your desk. He takes that as his cue to leave.
As he walks back to his dorms he can’t help but think about the interaction. You agreed, which was good. At least he knows he has someone to blame when his equipment fails. If. If it fails. He was only a little glad that you weren’t gonna be so abrasive anymore. He’d try. A bit. Not a lot. He still hates you. He can’t stand the way you don’t back down, but you did him a solid. He still hates you.
⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘
Over the next couple months he breaks numerous equipment, bringing them straight to you every time. But now he at least knocks, however his attitude and explosive tendencies are still loud and proud, you didn’t care all too much. You were able to handle him juuuust fine. He’s even taken to watching you work every now and again. Just to “Make sure you do it right.” was his explanation or “Those damn extras are annoying me”. At first it ticked you off how he hovered, watching you, but he did it again. And again. And again. Then it wasn’t so irritating. It just came with the job. Now everytime he broke something and brought it to you he’d hang around, even if it wasn’t his things you were working on that day.
One evening as he was just lounging about in your workshop, he all of a sudden talks, “I’m going to the stupid training camp.” You spin on your office chair and look at him.
“Yeah? Let me guess, you’re overjoyed.” You say teasingly with a smile. He just scoffs.
“It’s a waste of time.” He leans his head back, “I’m gonna be stuck for a week with those damn extras.” You just let out a small laugh, and turn back to your project.
“Try not to break my stuff, yeah?” You say as you resume working. He lets out a small tsk.
After a wave of silence he speaks again, “I leave next Wednesday.” His voice is softer and you can feel his eyes on the back of your head.
Another wave of silence, “You seem a little concerned.” You say.
“What the hell does that mean?! I’m not worried about shit!” He yells pointing at you.
You whip around and face him, “Then why’re you acting like a kicked puppy telling me this shit?!” You yell right back pointing at him with your screwdriver
“I’m not! Why’re you acting like you don’t give a damn?!” You both are practically screaming bow
“Why would I?! You’re going on a vacation you ungrateful brat!”
“It’s not vacation, I’m gonna be training! TRAIN-ING!! It’s a TRAINING CAMP!”
“Whatever! With my equipment it’ll practically be a vacation!!”
“You cocky extra I’ll blow you to hell!” He stands up but you stay sat.
“I’d like to see you try you wannabe hero!” You look up at him as he gets closer, you both glare at each other. Neither one of you backing down, he’s come to grow fond of it. He still hates your guts though.
After a pretty mean looking glaring match he scoffs, “You’re not worth my time.” He grabs his backpack, “See you later, loser.”
“See you, poser.” You give a lazy wave before turning back to your project. He stops in the doorway looking back at you. His eyes trace your form. He swallows and leaves the room. He’s leaving next week, no point in starting something now. He’ll be back, he forces himself to not dwell on it.
⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘
Every day during the training camp he thought of you, he wondered if you were working, if you were thinking of him, he wondered how many cups of coffee you had drank that day. Until that fateful night… when the League of Villains came. The claws of evil and destiny wound itself around his throat and dragged him toward danger. With no light where the strange portal type quirk villain brought him. Where he would be chained and confined. Despite his fear, he got angry. His glare now turned toward actual villains.
His hands that were weapons in and of themselves were restrained and he had no choice but to stay put and refuse the League over and over again. He refused to show even an ounce of weakness when they threatened him.
Then the fight burst through the walls, literally. Katsuki saw his hero, the one he looked up to. Defending him. What followed reeked of havoc and chaos. Having to be saved by his own damn classmates, by those extras because he was weak. Then All Might loses his powers, his strength in the fight against All for One. He had no time to grieve, no time for his emotions. He had to remain strong.
As he watched Deku, that stupid nerd, get chosen over and over again but the one Katsuki admires most. Having to watch the one he admires most get stripped of his powers because of him. Because he couldn’t be strong when it mattered most. When he got back to UA, the guilt began consuming him. More and more. Until he picked that fight with Deku. More out of anger than guilt. Wanting to prove himself. To anyone, even that damn nerd.
Hating how Deku had gotten stronger, how All Might had to be called upon yet again to help. How he now has to face All Might when it was his fault that his powers got ruined. It was too much, entirely too much. Then the anger boiled down, all that was left was guilt. Was jealousy. The violence melted away and he needed to get some air. He needed to fix this.
And you did say he could come to you when he needed something fixed.
He stands outside Room J, unsure if you’re even in there. If you were… would you let him in? Tears are already welling up in his eyes. He hated how helpless he felt as he lifted his fist to knock. Once, twice. A silence washes over the hallway. Then the door opens, your eyes widen… you fix your glasses, your expression one of worry.
“Katsuki? Oh, I heard what happened, are you okay? Are you hurt?” You say and he can’t stand it anymore, he can’t believe he’s doing this but he practically collapses in your arms. You gasp softly as sobs begin to rack his body. He’s holding onto your shirt, his arms tight around you, his face on your shoulder leaking tears, sobs, a little bit of snot, but oh well.
You hesitate for a moment before wrapping your arms tightly around him, “What happened?” You whisper, he shakes his head no. You understand and nod softly. Your hand reaches up and gently touches his hair. He stays crying for a long time. Leaking all the sadness, the guilt, the jealousy, even the fear out into your shoulder.
Eventually he looks up, his face damp but not nearly as wet as your shoulder. His eyes are red and puffy but he just looks away. You fix your glasses. The moment is slightly awkward, for you. Not for him.
“Do you want to come in? I have warm tea.” You offer gently, taking his hand. He only nods and lets you lead him in. He’s been in this place a million times over the past months, but it has a different feel at night. You have a different feel at night. He allows himself to be led to the only other seat in the whole room, a small old couch that sits against the back wall. He’s sat here so many times.
He’s not even sure why he came to you, all you’ve ever done together is bicker. But he feels safe right now. He’s sure he’s made the right choice in coming to you, you haven’t made fun of him. You only opened your arms, opened your door to him, you’re even gonna let him drink your tea. He knows how territorial you are over your tea. He sits down and watches you walk away and grab your thermos. You come back and sit next to him, “Here.” You hand the tea over.
“Thank you.” His voice is dry and hoarse from crying so much, but he doesn’t care. He’s already been so vulnerable tonight. You nod.
A wave of silence comes over the two of you, but this time it’s not awkward. It’s not tense, it’s calm. He slowly sips the tea, letting the warmth cool him down even more. Letting each swallow wash away the night. Wash away the guilt. He feels better, that’s certain. He looks over at you, you look tired too. Always having the habit of working later than you should. He has the urge to touch you again, how warm your hug was, how comforting it was. He wants to touch you again. He slowly leans over, putting his head on your shoulder.
He feels the lump in his throat again but he swallows it down, he’s not even sure if he has more tears to cry. He’s not sure if you’ll do anything, or if you’ll just let him lean on you but you slowly begin to run your fingers through his hair. Grateful that you’re letting him stay, that you’ve let him suck the warmth from your body, he leans more on you. His face seeping into the crook of your neck, his arms slowly wrap around you bringing you closer. Hoping you don’t care, but you’ve always spoken your mind. If you didn’t like it he’s certain you would’ve said something. So he keeps going, until he’s practically laying on top of you.
It’s only then that the world starts to slow, that his eyelids get heavy, that he yawns and closes his eyes without evening meaning to. He falls asleep against you.
⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘
When he wakes up, the window is filtering in sunlight through the curtains and he already knows he’s late. Still in just a black tank top and sweats he’ll be so late. But he looks down and sees you peacefully sleeping under him, he must’ve fallen asleep. He lays his head back down on your shoulder, he couldn’t care right now. He can miss a couple classes. He’s so comfortable here, you’re warm, much warmer than he imagined. Even now with your hair a mess and asleep, he can’t help the way his heart beats fast when he looks at you. The position you’re in almost making him wanna laugh, your back is against the couch arm and your neck has no support, it’s leaned all the way back, your lips are slightly parted, he rests between your legs, his head on your chest as you sleep.
He’s so comfortable here.
After a couple minutes the sunlight hits your face and you start to shift, he sighs softly and gets up. He gently moves you so your back is against the cushions and your neck is supported by the arm of the couch. Out of the sunlight, he stares for a second watching you peacefully sleep. It's probably the most sleep you’ve gotten in a while, always so consumed by your work.
And last night, how you didn’t even question what he was doing so late at your door. How you just opened your arms and let him in. How you let him soak your shirt and shoulder. He wonders if you’ll remember it when you wake up. With a hesitation, after a moment of thinking about it, he leans down, his rough hands move away the hair that’s fallen onto your forehead and presses his lips ever so gently to your skin. When he pulls away there’s a small twitch of his lips upward. He takes a deep breath, turning on his heels and leaving.
He’d see you again, probably within the day.

•◦❥◦• Summary! : The fight against Naoya Zenin was one that Choso certainly didn’t see coming, after Yuji had run off and Choso was left to face him, he could clearly tell this was a fight that he would have to persevere through… until a particularly strong sorcerer comes along.
⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘
He’s fast… much faster than Choso anticipated. His eyes can’t even track him, let alone be able to predict his next move. Getting pummeled by Naoya’s fist was a price Choso would absolutely pay if it meant Yuji got away safe, but that other sorcerer, the one with the sword; what was his deal? Said he was here to execute Yuji, he was fast too. Choso gets punched in the gut again, spitting up blood as the assault continues. He needs a plan and fast. Another kick to the face sends him flying in the other direction, hitting a concrete wall with a loud bang. He falls to the ground, he has to get up, his vision is hazy and he’s bleeding from multiple injuries. But he’s alive, therefore he must keep moving, he pushes himself up on his hands, his head is spinning. Move. He screams at himself in his head, MOVE!
He shakily gets to his feet, seeing Naoya right in front of him, the cocky bastard waiting for Choso to get back up just to watch him get back down. A sick and twisted game for which the only ending is death or destruction of Naoya, the former being the most likely unless something changes. He wills his hands to rise, a smirk growing on his opponents face. He blinks and Naoya is gone, followed by a loud explosion, Choso expects another kick but what he finds is Naoya pinned against the cement wall… and a new person has their weapon against his throat.
Who… was that? The unknown sorcerer has already beaten Naoya in less than half the time it’s taken for Choso to be knocked down. His opponent looks up at the unknown sorcerer, jaw clenched, “Long time no see, Y/N.” That must be your name… he watches as you press your weapon, which appears to be a staff that reeks of cursed energy harder on his throat, “Shut your mouth you piece of shit.” You growl, with startling speed you move your staff and whack the man in the side of his head knocking him out. Letting him fall to the ground you step over him, your eyes now on Choso. He feels his body go ice cold, what a look. He watches as you turn back to the unconscious man putting your staff in its sheath.
“Sorry.” Is the only thing you say as you haul Naoya onto your shoulder like he’s nothing more than a bag of rice, he’s completely flabbergasted. “For what?” He says, taking a step toward you as you turn back, “For him.” You say flatly.
For Naoya? Choso didn’t understand, you saved him. He should be thanking you and yet you’re apologizing to him? He was undoubtedly confused. He had no idea what to say, humans were so confusing… “Thank you.” He says softly, you only nod, he’s not sure where to go from here so he just follows you silently as you walk.
“Why did you do that?” He asks finally, you don't turn back to look at him, you just keep walking. “I’ve got a bone to pick with this guy.” You say, “Any more information than that and I’d have to kill you.” You look back at him with a teasing smile but he genuinely can’t tell if you’re joking. His eyes just widen a little and he nods like he completely understands, “Of course, yes.” You look back ahead still carrying the man on your shoulders.
Another wave of silence comes over the two of you, “You’re a Cursed Womb Death painting, right?” Pause, “I heard you guys got released by Geto.” You say with a tone that is purely factual, then you add on “Never thought I’d run into one of you like this.” He had no idea that he and his brother's release got around. “Yeah… but it’s only my brother Yuji and I right now.” He says, choosing to leave out the part where two of his brothers died.
“Ah, where is Yuji? I’ve heard so much about him; Sukuna’s vessel.” You look at him over your shoulder, he’s unsure if he should trust you. Those eyes, they go deeper than what it seems. But you did save him, maybe if push came to shove you could help Yuji? “He’s in a fight with an executioner.” He says, trying to give the bare minimum of information, if you knew who he was and who Geto was, you most certainly knew that Yuji was wanted. You nod, “Yuta?” You ask, clearly you knew your stuff. He just wishes he knew how. “I’m not sure his name. He wears a—“ You cut him off, “A white sweater with black pants, he has a sword, black hair and dark eyes?” Once again you look over your shoulder and smile at him. “That’s Yuta.” Eventually you stop walking, he stops right behind you.
You, with surprisingly careful hands, take Naoya off your shoulder, Choso can’t see what’s in front of you but you drop Naoya down. You walk away and he sees that it was a… manhole leading to a sewer system. Maybe just a last ‘Fuck you’? He looks down into the sewer, “Don’t get too close.” Your voice makes him jump, he looks at you. You’re rolling your shoulder, “Filled that sewage system with curses, they’ll tear him apart. You don’t wanna see that, now do you?” You stretch one last time before letting your arm fall to your side. “He won’t be a very pretty sight once my babies are done with him.” So you were a curse user.
But even without your curses you had so much strength, not even including the weapon that’s strapped to your back, plus what seems to be your infinite well of knowledge. Just who were you? Certainly not someone Choso ever wanted to piss off, that’s for sure. He has no way to warn Yuji to not get on your bad side either. He has to play his cards right. “I’m Choso.” He says, holding his hand, as you turn toward him you stare at his hand almost like you’re scrutinizing the way he holds it out. After a moment you put yours in his, shaking gently, “Y/N.” He had heard your name from Naoya but he knows to really lock it in his brain. You could be either death or life.
When you let go of his head you turn away, “Well, I guess I’ll see you. I’m sure we’ll meet again.” You start to walk away before he blurts out, “Wanna team up?” You stop once again and look over your shoulder at him, “Why would I do that? I work alone.” He knows he has to convince you, you could be such a powerful asset. “Maybe not team up… but do you want to be… friends?” You turn and face him, your hands in your pockets, “Friends?” You scoff, “The Jujutsu world is no place to make friends.” You say.
“Just for now? I’m injured.” He says, maybe you lean towards the empathetic side? After seeing your expression he knows that’s not the case, “Ok, ok, ok. You’re strong, you can clearly make it by yourself. I’m strong too! I know that fight with—“ He realizes he never got his name, “that… guy doesn’t prove that. But I have access to things you might want!” You suck your teeth and sigh, “Like what?” Good! He’s got your attention.
“Like… like the higher ups of Jujutsu society! Or cursed weapons! Or I have connections to the vessel of Sukuna! That interests you… right?” Please, please, please. You lean on your hip, “What if I wanted to kill Yuji Itadori?” You question, watching his expression shift. “Do you?” He asks wearily, “Answer the question, would ya, sweetheart? I haven’t got all day.” His fists clench.
“If you were out to execute my brother, I would fight to the death to kill you.” He says with such resolve you believe him without a doubt. You tilt your head a grin, “And if someone was after me?” It’s almost like you were testing him, “I think you’d be able to handle it.” He says, he doesn’t even see you do it but you grab your staff and swing it at his feet, now he’s on his back. “What if I was knocked out? Would you fight to the death for me?” You ask as you stand over him.
He has no idea what to say or do, you could easily kill him in this position, but if he got up there’s a chance you would attack again, “I—“ You cut him off once again, slamming your staff end into the ground a couple inches from his head. He can feel the cursed energy seeping from it, from you. The blood lust. Fuck, you were scary. “Being a teammate, or even just a friend means you make a pact. To defend one another, whether that means until destruction or until death you keep fighting.” Your voice is stern, “And if I can't trust my teammates to do so for me, I don’t make them my teammates. So what is it? If I was in trouble would you fight with your life on the line for me? Is being my teammate worth that for you?” You stare in his eyes your own full of cursed energy, power, strength.
He swallows, “If it came to that… Yes. I would. If the choice, however, was between you or my brothers. I wouldn’t think twice to let you die.” He says trying to steel his voice. He hopes that answer is good enough, he really does. You stare at him for a few more seconds before you lift your staff, nod, and put it back in its place on your back. “Your brothers are the most important thing to you?” You ask, still staring down at him, his position makes him feel vulnerable but he really needs you on his side. He nods, “Yes. Family trumps everything. My brothers are the best thing in my life.” He says softly.
You wonder what he would do once someone finally killed his brothers, almost like it was a certain thing. Not an if but a when. There’s no doubt that one or multiple are already gone. He’s clearly clinging to the ones he has left. His skills definitely need a little sharpening up… but he’s not going to drag you down, you don’t think at least. He hasn’t gotten in your way once, in fact he was distracting Naoya when you got to him, so he’s already done you a favor. But you’d already returned it by saving him. The two of you were even. The choice lies with you. Do you take Choso as your teammate or leave him behind?
After a moment of silence you crouch down to his level, your face a couple inches from his. He’s unnerved but clearly you have an objective. You stare him down, and he wills himself to not look away. A couple of seconds that feels like forever before you sigh. “Fine, get up.” You say standing up, he scrambles to his feet thankful for the new position that isn’t nearly as vulnerable as the last. “If you double cross me, I’ll kill you. If you attack me, I’ll kill you. If I even catch a whiff of you betraying me, I’ll kill you. I won’t even blink. Do you understand? I’m doing you a favor.” You glare at him and he nods. “Yes Ma’am— er— yes. Okay. Sure.” He swallows.
You turn and begin walking away, he follows behind you.

It’s been a couple months since you had accepted his offer to become allies. You, Yuji, and Choso all teaming up, for the purpose of staying alive. Meeting Yuji was tense at first, his usual bubbly personality was missing so the two of you just stared at each other until Choso started talking, introducing the two of you. Soon enough Yuji warmed up - soon enough as in : 4 minutes - and you accepted that if you were allies with Choso, Yuji Itadori was going to have to come along as well despite any protests you may have had about the dangers he brought. How you wanted to keep a low profile. You decided ultimately if it came down to it you could protect the both of them, because that’s what teammates do right?
One night, one cold evening. You and Choso sat awake, while Yuji slept. He always slept first, Choso hated when Yuji slept after him and you didn’t trust Yuji to not eat all the rations. So here you were, just you and Choso watching the fire, well you were watching the fire while Choso worked on drawing a map of Shibuya absolutely refusing to use the new technology that the New Age brought. He marked down with meticulous detail where the stronger curses were, territories, etc. You glanced at him and his focused expression. You never could tell if the hues around his eyes were due to fatigue or if that was just how he was. You figured the latter as he always slept so much. You look back down and with your staff you move about the wood to keep the fire going.
“Did the building we passed through today have a lot of cursed energy to you?” He asks, just loud enough for you to hear but not loud enough for Yuji to wake up, “Define ‘a lot’, there’s definitely a cursed spirit in there. Nothing we couldn’t handle if we went tomorrow.” You say in the same volume. He looks at you, watching the flames illuminate your features. There’s no doubt in his mind anymore that he can trust. After several months being around you, you’ve done nothing but help and fight with them, fight for them even. He thinks that you guys are friends, but he wasn’t even quite sure what a friend was? He knew you were allies, he knew that that was. But aren’t friends different from teammates? How long does one have to be friends with another before they are friends?
“Y/N?” He says, you look up at him, “Are we… friends?” He watches your face, looking for any sign of emotion that he can detect. His fingers fold up the map creasing the folds until it’s a neat square.
“Do you want to be?” You reply, just like always your eyes drill into his. But after so long being around it his throat doesn’t dry up. He can think now, if only just a little more than when you first met. “I think so.” He says softly. There’s a moment of silence between you two. “Okay then. We’re friends.” You look back at the fire, watching the flames lick the sky and leaving a smoky cast behind. He smiles softly, “Okay.” Is all he says back. Being newly friends makes him wonder what friends even do? Would anything change or was it just a title? From allies to friends. What comes after friends? He wonders if he could trust you with that question. He’s almost certain he can, you had seen Yuji explain things such as that before to him.
“What comes after friends?” Choso asks, his eyes still on you, tracing your features, waiting for your answer. “Best friends.” You say softly. He takes a breath, “What’s the difference?” You look at him.
“Best friends have more trust between them, more love, and emotion.” You try to explain, but you’ve only ever had one best friend. That’s a story for another time.
“Love? I thought love was romantic.”
“It can be. But platonic love comes from friendships.”
“What’s the difference?”
“Romantic love has to do with desire, wanting the other person in a way that you don’t want friends. You can love friends, but it has more to do with trust and respect and loyalty even.” You weren’t even sure you were explaining this right, where was Yuji when you needed him?
“Do you love me?” He asks softly.
“That’s something you have to earn, like trust.”
“Are love and trust the same thing?”
“No, trusting is having faith. Love is an emotion. But love is not an emotion you just give away.” You say softly.
“Do I love you?” He stares at you.
“That’s for you to decide.”
A moment of silence washes over you.
“Love is a choice?” He asks; God this was so hard to explain!
“Love can be a choice, loving someone is an action.”
“I thought love was an emotion.”
“Love is an emotion.”
“What do you do when you love someone?”
“You love your brothers, don’t you?”
“More than anything.”
“That’s family love, different from platonic or romantic. It’s a bond. It runs deeper than blood, it runs in your soul. You can feel that love in your soul can’t you?”
He nods.
“When you love someone platonically or romantically you show them. In different ways. Platonic love is being there for the person, being available. Being a shoulder to lean on.”
“What about romantic love?”
“What do you do when you love someone romantically?” He nods, and you sigh, “You kiss them… hug them.. I don’t know. You do what feels right. It’s hard to explain.”
A beat of silence.
“How do you know when you love someone romantically?” He asks softly.
You rub your face, “Uh…Your heart beats faster when you see them, you just feel it. You know? In your heart. There’s no same symptoms for love, Choso.” You look at him, hoping you’re getting through to him. “When you find someone,” Your tone gets gentler, “you’ll know. It’ll feel like they're the only safe spot in the entire world. In the entire universe. You’ll feel like your heart beats for them. It’s a hard feeling to describe to someone who’s never felt it, it feels… scary and beautiful at the same time.” You look back at the fire, having to move the wood again.
“Why is love scary?” He asks, there was so much to know about love…
“It’s like taking a chance on something that you’re not sure will work out. And when you take that chance it’s like your head is gonna explode from how nervous you are. That’s when it’s scary, but then they love you back and it’s beautiful. It’s not scary anymore because it’s worked out.”
“What if it doesn’t work out?”
“Love comes again. Like a carousel. Dropping new people, ones who don’t stay sometimes and ones who do.”
“We’ll stay, right? Together?”
You smile softly, “Yeah.. I’ll stay.”

Being friends with you was better than Choso imagined! Sure nothing really changed but you were nicer to him! Not that you weren’t nice before… but… you know what? He’s not gonna think about it, the important thing is that you two are friends! And after that talk you two had he was determined to make you his best friend!
You said that platonic love meant being there for one another, and boy was he there for you. At every turn you spotted him. Anything you needed done, Choso was on it. Despite your annoyed expression when he snatched your water canteen to refill it for you, you knew he only meant well. And after all it was your fault, you did tell him everything he knew about platonic love. Honestly, you wished Yuji had explained it to him, Yuji probably had a firmer grasp on what it was. How to explain it to someone who’s only ever known family love. So you let him figure out what to do with his feelings by himself. Whether he felt love or no love at all, you knew that through trial and error he would find his way just as everyone else did.
But what you never expected was that he would begin bringing you flowers, nothing extravagant; just small little daisies that were actually weeds but you nor Yuji had the heart to tell him otherwise. You just accepted and gave him a small smile. Which only spurred him forward, he was doing this right! In no time he’d be your best friend!

That was until a couple months later. Things had really calmed down, and the three of you left Shibuya for the day. Yuji was, of course, excited to see the city again. So much to do and see. While the ever calm and peaceful pair you and Choso made were happy to just follow Yuji around. Until Choso spotted you eyeing the carnival game stand, which looked wildly out of place in this concrete jungle. With no sense of how the game worked, he made Yuji buy him a ticket. Well— then he made Yuji explain the game. Then he watched Yuji play so he could understand the game better… then made Yuji buy another ticket. But oh well! He steps up to the game, it’s a simple one in theory, throw the ball, knock down the pins. Only three of them, that made an easy game! He just had to aim for the middle. It really was child’s play.
He turns his head over his shoulder to see if you were watching, both you and Yuji were. So he reels his arm back, aiming for the middle. This is sure to knock them down! He slings his arm forward, letting go of the ball at the perfect moment! The aim was perfect, the projection, the wind, the ball flies towards the pins and—!… Gets stuck between the three pins. His expression pales, oh no! Has he lost the game? He’s sure to have embarrassed himself now! But he hears laughing…
He turns around and sees you cracking up, your eyes watering as you laugh loudly. He’s never seen you like this. He feels his heart beat faster— his heart beats faster?! He thinks back to that time, that conversation he had with you…
“How do you know when you love someone romantically?”
“Uh…Your heart beats faster when you see them, you just feel it. You know? In your heart.”
This was it… he was feeling it. Watching you laugh at, sure, him. But you were laughing. He swallows, he’s never felt this before. Did his face feel hot? Why was he sweating? He must be ill. You must’ve been wrong about how love feels. This feels horrible. What was he supposed to do? What did you say again?
That when you love someone romantically you hug them? No, wait, he said your love had to be earned… Did that mean he couldn’t hug you until he had earned your love? How would he know if he had? Gosh, this was all so confusing. So out of nowhere! What is a guy to do? He should ask Yuji!

Yuji sits there cracking up, the same as you after Choso asks him how to earn your love. But after seeing Choso’s serious expression he realizes this is real. “You’ve got the hots for her?!” He practically screams, thank God you were surveying a different floor. Choso can only nod. God this was embarrassing, having to ask his younger brother for advice on women! He was supposed to be giving the advice!
“Okay! Okay! Okay! Here’s what you do..” Choso listens extra close.
⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘
Choso stands in front of your hotel door, the first room you guys have actually bought since you teamed up, deciding that sleeping on the dirt floor was no longer comfortable. He stands rather stiffly in the clothes Yuji picked out. But this is what you do for love right? He wanted to earn your love, and damn it he would give it his all. He looks at Yuji who is hiding around the corner, giving him a thumbs up and making a kissy face.
Choso takes a deep breath and knocks on the door. After a moment you open it, and there’s his heart beating again. So loudly he thinks you might be able to hear it. You look at him with a confused look, “Choso? What are you—“ He shoves flowers in front of you, beautiful ones, not weeds this time. A mix of white roses and day lilies and daisies. You can’t deny they’re beautiful but you can’t help but wonder with what intent he gives them. You take the flowers and give him a confused smile, “Thank you.” You say softly, you look him up and down. “What are you wearing?” He looks down a little self conscious.
He ignores your question, “Do you want to…” Crap! What did Yuji say? “Get a bite to eat?” The improper grammar makes him sound… off. You smile a little wider.
“Uhm… sure. Where did you have in mind?” You ask, Choso looks to Yuji and Yuji is pointing back at you, Look at her! Choso gets the hint and looks back at you.
“There is a very good…” He looks at his hand, the smudged ink doing no good, “Sushi shop a couple blocks away.” He says.
“Okay, let’s go.” You say and walk past him. Going the opposite way of where Yuji is, Choso looks back at him where he’s throwing thumbs up and flapping his hands for Choso to follow you. Choso nods and quickly catches up with you. This was a success so far! He had to continue with the plan.
The dinner went by smoothly, though awkwardly on Choso’s part. Constantly fumbling over his words, why was he so nervous? He’s talked to you so many times but now it’s nerve wracking. What was wrong with him? Now as you walk back to the hotel he stares at you, he wishes the ink on his hand had stayed put so he could have the list of topics to discuss that he needed so desperately. He couldn’t just stare at you the whole time! Yuji said that would make you think he was a perv. Choso didn’t have the heart to ask what a perv was but knew it must’ve been bad.
“So..” Choso starts, “Nice… uh.. hair.” He was hopeless.
You stop walking and look at him. “Choso, we’ve been around each other for 9 months and not once have you ever commented on my hair, nor have you brought me flowers, or taken me to dinner. What’s going on?” You cross your arms, “If this is some weird prank and Yuji put you up to—“
“This isn’t a prank! Not at all!” He blurts out. Looking down at you he gets that feeling again, the warmth in his face, the sweat in his palms, the thud of his heart! “I just— you— you said..” He clears his throat. “I want to earn your love.” He says.
His answer takes you aback, he wanted to earn your love? Oh my God, have you been missing all the signs? Was this a date?!
“You… want to earn my love?” You say with a tad bit of suspicion. Clearly you didn’t fully believe him and that’s okay! He wouldn’t either, he didn’t even really believe himself when he came to the conclusion that he loved you. But there’s no more doubt in his mind, because just like you said… when you know it. You know it. And he knows. There’s no doubt in his head that he loves you. You felt like a safe place and God was he scared. Not of danger… but of taking the chance that he might get hurt. It’s just like you said.
He nods and steps closer, “I want to hug you.” He says and you have to hold back a laugh, he smiles, “What?”
“Nothing— you’re just really surprising me.” You look up at him. You can’t help but admit to yourself that you had the signs of it yourself. Maybe you should take your own advice? Taking the chance, it was a leap of faith. But you knew he would catch you. So you take it. You take the step. Like actually taking the step, you wrap your arms around his middle, your head on his chest. His breath hitches, his heart beating faster and faster. Acting on instinct his arms wrap around you.
A wave of silence falls over the two of you. He’s content just to hold you.
“Is this what love feels like?” He whispers.
“That’s for you to decide.” You say back. “What do you think?”
“I think so.” He tightens his arms around you.

God how long has it been? 8 months? 9? You weren’t sure. So much had happened. Those weird games with the rival school, where you were scared out of your mind of the other students but Kija - the cursed spirit inside you - was not. You had to stop it from maiming a student more than once. You had gone on at least 13 missions in the time you had spent at Jujutsu High. You had even made a couple other real friends. You and Toge got along nicely, due to your equal throat pain bearing. Maki mostly stayed clear but even the two of you had warmed up to each other. Despite all of this, you were still as emotional as ever. But you have begun to be able to calm yourself down, rather than relying on Megumi.
Megumi didn’t care. Pfft. Why would he care? Why would he care that you weren’t as dependent on him? That’s a stupid thing to care about when he saw how much progress you were making. But sometimes at night, it kept him awake. Once you had completely mastered your… weeping, would you have any use for him? Would you ditch him and join the higher Jujutsu society? He felt like a damn dog, no better than his own Shikigami for caring so much about it. It didn’t matter, he told himself. It didn’t matter because the moment that you had shared, that evening after your very first mission - where he had almost leaned in, where he had almost kissed you, and you looked like you wanted to kiss him too - it never happened again. Sure, you had tender moments, but none like that. None like the one you had that evening.
He wondered if you would ever have something like that again. He’d get so frustrated with himself for losing sleep over it. So upset for getting upset when he saw you smile at something Yuji said or turn away from him to talk to Nobara. He hated himself for it, because after all, you weren’t his. Who knows if you would ever be his? He just— God why was he so hung up on this?
Up at night, his clock showed the numbers 2:34. He hasn’t slept at all, thinking about the stupid way Yuji kept stealing your attention. He rubs his face, deciding he really can’t sleep and he gets up. Pulling on his jacket and his shoes he walks right out. Not even caring to be quiet as he goes outside, the moonlight shines down on him and around him; illuminating the area. The cold air always helped him think, and he needed to. Why did he feel like this? Jealous and possessive and obsessive? Over you, the girl that clinged to him.
Was it horrible to say that maybe he liked it? He liked that you wanted him, maybe that was it. He wanted to be wanted. As he walked with no destination in mind he felt the cold air on his face, his hands in his pockets, every time he exhaled the moon lit up his breath. He kept walking and walking, working through these feelings. Until he saw your room. A couple yards away, should he? No, you were probably sleeping.
He stops walking, standing there. Staring at your room. He walks over, now in front of your door. What if he just knocked? And if you didn’t respond he would leave. He would leave if you didn’t respond. Yes. He lifts his fist, gently rasping on the door. A second goes by, one… two… three… he hears a shuffling behind the door. Then it stops. His heart is beating out of his chest, for reasons he can’t explain. He knocks again, against his better judgement. Rustling again then soft footsteps… you were awake! Once you open the door he tries to not let it show on his face that he was ecstatic over seeing you.
“Hi.” He says softly, looking at you, your tired face. You had been sleeping and he feels a twinge of guilt but ignores it.
“Hi…” You say back, you rub your eyes, “Megumi it’s three in the morning.” You say softly, was it really? Had he been walking for half an hour?
“Yes, it is.” He says, he's not usually like this. You can’t help but be a little worried.
“Are you okay?” You ask a little concerned for him, he nods quickly.
“Yeah!-“ He covers his mouth, knowing he’s being too loud, “Yeah. I’m okay. I just.. I needed to see you. I’m sorry, this is so stupid.” He runs a hand through his hair then down his face. “I don’t know why I feel like this.”
You hold your arms to your chest, “Like what?” You ask softly, this was so out of character for him. You would’ve never expected Megumi of all people to come to you late at night, but you wanted to be there for him. If only he’d tell you what was going on. “Do you want to come inside?” You turn to the side, holding the door open for him. His heart beating out of his chest, he’s almost certain you can see it on his face— you really can’t, he looks as neutral as ever. Simply nodding and coming inside, you would have had no idea that he was spiraling in his mind. He stands awkwardly in your room, his hands in his pockets balled into fists.
He clears his throat, “Nice room.” He mutters, Nice room? Really?! That’s the best you’ve got?! He internally screams at himself. You just smile softly, shyly. “Thank you. I haven’t really thought about decorating it yet, it’s sorta plain.” You sit on the edge of your bed, looking away from him. “Been so busy, with all this training and whatnot.” You tuck a piece of hair behind your ear and he tries not to let his eyes linger on the way your pajamas fit you. He just nods.
A wave of silence comes over the two of you. Long but not invasive, like a warmth that nothing needs to be said for a moment. That the world doesn’t have to stop just yet.
“Are you okay?” You whisper finally, looking up at him. His eyes meet yours and his mouth dries up. Could he tell you? He doesn’t want to take advantage of you. He clenches his fist harder. Should he let you in? Or would you just end up… end up getting hurt?
It’s a dangerous world, Jujutsu Sorcery, full of bad people with bad intentions who are too strong to do any good. And he was up against them, so were you. He wasn’t sure if he was brave enough to face the idea that the two of you have already been locked into this. That you’ve already made the metaphorical decision to carry this out. His nails dig into the palm of his hand. He’s already had so many scares, wondering if you were okay. Being on missions was nerve wracking when it came to you, he knew you could handle it, without his presence. But what if you couldn’t? What if he couldn’t? Would all of his feelings go to waste once you realize he couldn’t provide you with a good, safe life?
These thoughts swirl his head, over and over, moving into his chest and producing a cold sweat. He couldn’t bear the thought, so he just nodded, “Yeah, yeah, I’m okay. I just couldn’t sleep. Sorry for waking you up.” He turns toward the door, already beating himself up over his own weakness, his own fragility. It’s how you get hurt in a world like this. By choosing to protect someone who is in the same line of danger. Though he’s already made that choice, he couldn’t possibly let you know. That he has already chosen to protect you at all costs. His hand reaches the doorknob when he feels a small pull on the back of his shirt.
He looks back at you, “You don’t have to leave, if you don’t want to.” You say softly, like speaking too loudly would ruin the moment. Like the volume of your voice was the deciding factor in whether or not he would stay. You let go of his shirt, your hands falling to your sides. Your eyes practically beg him to stay. He almost does, really, he almost turns around and envelopes you in his arms and drags you to bed to keep you forever. But he clenches his jaw, he’s already gotten too close, he shakes his head no and leaves. Once he closes the door behind him he leans against it. A sad sigh leaving his lungs as his head hits the door. Stupid. All of it. Why did he let himself get so close?

Deciding to confide in Gojo was a horrible idea, terrible, awful, stupid. He regrets it now as Gojo rambles on and on about how Megumi should just tell you, but of course Gojo is a different type of person than Megumi. His idea of love is loud and clear, whilst Megumi prefers quieter but stable shows of love. Neither is worse, just different. But sitting here now, Megumi wonders what your type of love is? His mind drifts off while Gojo is still talking. Do you like receiving gifts? Or are you more of a physical touch person? He really couldn’t tell which you liked more. Maybe neither? Words of affirmation? Or acts of service? Maybe it’s just something as simple as quality time! You didn’t want him to leave last night, so maybe that was it? All of this was just confusing.
He puts his head on the table he’s sitting at, “I give up.” He mutters. Gojo is somehow able to hear it over his constant yapping, which stops as he pokes Megumi’s head, “Come on now, Megs. You’re not gonna let this get the best of you, right?” He teases, “It’s just like a big mission, Winning The Heart of Y/N!” He gestures widely like it’s on a billboard, Megumi just lets out a deflated sigh, and after a moment of silence Gojo speaks again.
“If you never tell her, you’ll spend your whole life regretting and grieving what could’ve been.” He says in a more serious tone, “You’ve gotta understand that there’s a chance, how big it is is irrelevant, but there’s a chance that she feels the exact same way.” Megumi looks up to see Gojo staring out the window as he talks, he can tell that he means what he’s saying. “Love is more than a feeling, love is an action and love is a consequence. Whether you take that action is up to you, it’s not about being ready. It’s about taking the step anyways.” A moment of silence.
“Or you don’t and fuck it all over.” He smiles at Megumi.

After Gojo left, something about his favorite mochi shop closing in 5 - Megumi’s mind turns over what Gojo said over and over, like something you fidget with until your finger tips are sore. If he takes the risk, would he get the reward? If he takes the risk, would he get the boot? So many unknowns, this wasn’t just like a mission, Gojo was wrong. A mission has intel, a mission has a place, a time, an idea of what he’ll be up against. He’s never done this sort of thing, it’s all unknown.
She took the unknown with you. Is all he hears in the back of his head, didn’t you? Take the unknown? You had two options : death or joining Jujustu High. One, you knew what would happen. Execution. But the other, how could you have known what would have come from that? But you took the risk… for him? Or just to not die? He sighs.
He remembers how you looked at him that day, in that hospital bed. Nervous, confused, sad, scared, all of the above. How you leaned toward him when you were nervous, how he had calmed you down that first time. How you both have taken so many unknowns for each other and with each other. What made this so different? It was the same, wasn’t it? An Unknown that could be faced together. And he wanted to, God he wanted to face this unknown with you. He looks toward the door, then to his hands.
Taking the risk could bring so much reward and so much hurt. But he felt he could, with how you looked at him. With how you clung to him for comfort at times. He’s watched you get stronger and he’s proud but he’ll regret not asking you for the rest of his life. The. Rest. Of. His. Life.

Sitting crisscross on your bed practicing your breathing when your emotions get out of hand wasn’t the most perfect way to spend your Friday afternoon. But it had to be done, you wanted to do it in private so you could show Megumi you wanted more from him than a shoulder to cry on. You wanted to march up to him one day and tell him you wanted so much more, that he didn’t have to hover anymore. That you could handle it!
Buuuuut… clearly that would be a long time from now, as you’re already on the edge of letting Kija out just by thinking about him. You put your hands to your cheeks, feeling the smoldering hot skin. Why did he get to you so much? You could feel tears well in your eyes and you take a deep breath. No,no,no,no,no! How could you ever hope to overcome your emotions if you can hardly keep it together when you think about someone you like… love? You weren’t sure anymore. You felt everything about him.
A couple of deep breaths later you feel your tears go away, you swallow and run a hand through your hair. You had to do this. You couldn’t drag him down any longer. You let out a watery sigh— okay! Enough thinking about him, it’s not worth letting Kija out. You swing your legs over the bed, you need to get some air. As you pull on your shoes and walk to the door, your mind once again wonders back to him. It’s doubtful he feels the same way, you’re just a burden. That moment in his bedroom was just a fluke. Something that happened in the heat of the moment. You physically shake your head and open the door, having to hold back a gasp when you see him… Megumi. His fist up like he was about to knock, his eyes wide as yours. You both just stand there. Awkward….
He finally clears his throat, “Hey, I was just— do you want to, shit. I was gonna ask if you wanted to go grab… like, I don’t know— something to eat? Or drink? Or just go for a walk?” You almost smile at his words but your mind is reeling, what do you say? He’s offering so he clearly wants to! But he gave you so many options! Eat, drink, go for a walk? God, shit, fuck. What do you do?!
“You know what? Never mind, it's okay.” He turns to walk away, but you grab his arm, “Wait!” You say a little too loudly, once he turns back to you you realize you’re still holding his arm and quickly let go. Your arms find their awkward spot at your sides, “Uhm— I do— I mean I want to! Go somewhere… with you.” Nice one..
You don’t even notice the pink on his cheeks, too caught up in your own mind, “Okay… yeah. Where do you wanna go?” He asks, grateful he hasn’t lost his chance yet.
“There’s a uh..” You clear your throat, “There’s a ramen and boba shop a couple blocks away.” You look away, hoping your suggestion is enough, hoping he wants that too, you hope, hope, hope.
He nods before reaching up a hand to rub the back of his neck, “Yeah sounds good. Lead the way.” He lets you walk in front of him. Trying his best to not watch the way your hips move.

Walking home after a night out with you was more than enough, the entire night was just… amazing. He let you take the wheel on talking, listening to you yap about anything you wanted, occasionally throwing in his own words. But more than anything he just watched you. He loved the way you treated the waiters, he loved the way you kept glancing at the crane machine, he loved the way you practically yelled in excitement when he won your favorite animal for you, hugging it tightly and thanking him over and over.
And now watching you walk, side by side, still holding that same plushie he won for you. The street lamps illuminated your figure, this moment was perfect. If only he would just spit what he wanted to say. The night was cool but not cold, you walked happily next to him like you didn’t have a care in the world. You had no idea of his raging thoughts, that screamed at him to do something - to say anything!
He looks away as you guys continue walking, if he didn’t do something now you guy would be back at the dorms and he would lose his chance. With a hand he tried so hard to keep steady he reached over, slowly… slowly. His pinky brushes your hand, you look up at him but he’s still looking away, still moving his hand into yours. Eventually, as in a couple minutes later he finally slips his hand into yours. His fingers fit perfectly into yours and he wonders why he never did this before.
Neither of you say a word, silence would without a doubt break this moment. So you both just keep walking. Keep going. Walking, walking, walking. Until you reached the dorms, his mind spiraling about what he would now, now that he’s taken the step. Well he hasn’t confessed but I mean he’s taken it! Baby steps, right? He stops outside your door, not letting go of your hand. You wonder if you could keep yours in his forever. But logic says otherwise and he reluctantly pulls his hand out of yours. Standing in front of you.
“Thank you, for tonight.” You say softly, brushing your nails on the head of your stuffy, “And for the plushie. Still can’t believe you got it on the first try.” You smile sweetly, God he wants to kiss you. He just nods and swallows, his hands once again balled into fists. You both stay quiet for a second.
“Y/N, uh.. I—“ He takes a step forward a couple inches from you now, he silently puts a hand to your cheek, his eyes gazing into yours. If you pull away, he’ll leave. If you pull away, he’ll go away forever. Don’t pull away! Don’t pull away. Please.
He sweetly, oh so gently, cups your face. The stuffy squished between you as he leans in, warmly pressing his lips to yours. He practically melts into you, pulling you closer. Your free hand gently grasps his shirt. The kiss says a million and one things. Both of your firsts and it feels like lightning and warm water all at the same time. Neither of you want to part but your lungs eventually begin to scream. Parting your breath is a little heavy.
He presses his forehead to yours, his eyes closing. He thanks whatever fucking stars led him to you. If you were a Goddess he’d be on his knees, even now, if you’d let him, he’d be on his knees in reverence. He’s so whipped.
You press your lips to his again, a quick kiss, but he loves it all the same. “Goodnight.” You whisper, another kiss then you turn and enter your dorm. Closing the door behind you.
He turns and touches his lips.
You press your face into your pillow and scream.
Sure to say this’ll be a relationship that will last a lifetime.

Sunlight seeping through the window, casting light onto his face and pulling him from sleep. He rubs his eyes and looks over at the other side of the bed, it's still a habit. He knows you’re not there. His bottom lip trembles but he swallows down any sadness, it’s been far too long for him to still be grieving. But how could he not? The love of his life. The one for him, and now you’re gone. Well, not now. Three years ago. You had promised you would be safe, he still remembers the way your lips felt against his as you laughed at his concerns. All the what-ifs swimming in his mind. He knew you were strong, but he knew there were other people - people who wanted to get at him - that were also strong. He remembers watching you walk away, smiling as you left.
He should’ve never let you leave. Now he can’t live anymore, all he can do is work. Unable to bear the few times a month he comes back to the place where you lived together, unable to stand having to wake up alone. Stopping in the middle of the sidewalk when he passes someone wearing the perfume you used to — it drives him mad. It makes him want to pull his hair out. Spring comes and goes and the memories of all the times he spent going on walks with you. Being a softer version of himself for you. Waking up in the middle of the night wondering what the fuck happened?
No one just disappears. No one. He spent a year and a half, getting hardly any sleep just looking for you. Looking for clues, for hints. It led him nowhere, nowhere but into the arms of grief and loneliness. The nights he spent sobbing at his desk when no one could see or drinking his sorrows away only to cry in the shower. Kirishima, Deku, Denki, Mina, Sero, even Iida stopped by so many times. Food, water, coercing him into the shower or to change clothes. It was hell on Earth for him. But life grows around grief and he learned how to put on a face of at least neutrality. Hard to believe it’s been so long without having held you, he can still imagine what your smile looks like.
With a sigh he sits up, he’s gotta get to work.
Reports of villain activity have been floating around a specific place, an old abandoned warehouse in the middle of nowhere. As he gets his uniform on his mind wonders what could it be, One For All was long gone so it couldn’t be Nomu’s could it? Maybe just some low level thugs who need a good ass whipping. Whatever it was, Bakugou could handle it. The drive is long, but oh well - he always just zoned out and zoned back in from time to time.
When he arrives even he can feel something is off, he’s not sure what just… something. He slams his car door shut, if someone is in there they’ve heard it. He takes short steps and examines the place, looking for a door or entrance and quickly finding one at the side of the building. He pushes the door open and steps inside. It reeks of chemicals but there are none that he can see, cleaning agents? Or scientific evidence? Besides chemicals he can smell a lot of dust and that strong metallic scent that lingers, making its way into his mouth so he can taste it. Whatever’s happening here is not good. But hopefully it’s not as bad as he’s thinking.
The warehouse is most certainly old, there’s a bathroom and a couple other rooms, graffiti, and dust mixed with rust everywhere. It’s a total mess, but he continues, a little bit of dust wouldn’t stop Katsuki Bakugou. He’s unaware of the pair of eyes watching him from above, scanning his every movement with a glare. He checks every room, even the bathroom for any trade of evidence. DNA, fingerprints, anything left behind, he comes up with nothing. He scoffs and starts to leave, muttering about wasting his damn time when he hears a clatter. Turning around with his gauntlets already aimed at the ceiling he finds nothing, only to get kicked in the face a millisecond later. He gets knocked across the room, hitting the metal wall with a loud bang.
But a kick to the face is not nearly enough to keep him down, he’s up before his assailant can land another hit but as his eyes land on them his fighting spirit vanishes. He takes a step back, his hands shaking, his eyes wide, his breath gone, his heart is beating out of his chest. It couldn’t be. He doesn’t have time to process before his assailant swings again, he has to block to avoid hurting them.
“Wait!” He chokes out only to get pummeled by another kick, his mind racing he has no idea what to do. This time the kick landed in his ribs, hurting like a motherfucker.
What could he do? Being faced with his lost fiancée. Her face is covered in scars but her eyes are indifferent, like she has no idea who he was. He couldn’t hurt her, he couldn’t. He wanted to hug her and cry, and kiss her, and never let her go. But she was attacking him! What could he do? He dodges your relentless attacks but it gets harder to see through his tears. He swallows his tears down if only for a second to kick your feet from under you, as soon as you’re knocked onto your back he’s on top of you holding your wrists down, trying to keep a hold on you despite your thrashing limbs. He’s staring into your eyes, waiting for you to stop.
His voice cracks when he speaks, “Stop.” He squeezes your wrist, not enough to hurt you just to get your attention. You stop thrashing for a second, breathing heavily, your eyes filled with rage against him.
“Get. Off. Me.” You say each syllable like it’s poison made just for him. He feels like his heart is physically breaking. You try to push up against his weight, “Get off!” You scream but it’s no use, Katsuki was always bigger and stronger than you.
“No. Look at me.” He says firmly, his eyes desperate, his voice desperate. When you do his breath hitches, he’s never seen that look in your eye. Anger, pure anger, hatred even. It makes his heart break because you have never been a hateful person. Not even during the Great War, you fought for what was right, you kept a smile on your face. He has no idea where that version went, he has no idea where you’ve been, but he doesn’t have time to get overwhelmed with the fact that his love is back. Or whatever this version of you is. It doesn’t matter to him. He needs to figure this out, he needs get *you* back. He’s been without your touch for far too long, he’s been without your kisses, without your words, he can’t stand it anymore.
“It’s me, Katsuki.” He whispers, his hands want to let go and wrap around you, but he keeps his grip firm, refusing to let you get away. Not now. His ribs ache from your kick, his nose is bleeding, but it doesn’t matter; “Snap out of it, damn it.” Tears fill his eyes despite his will to be straight faced. They drip onto your cheeks and you get this disgusted look leaning your head away. He uses one hand to grab both your wrists, then he grabs your face, “Stop being a stubborn prick!” He yells. His grip on your face is weak, he doesn’t want to hurt you, he never wants to hurt you.
You look straight into his eyes, for reasons you can’t explain your heart beats faster. What the fuck? This guy is your enemy, at least that’s what they told you — the scientists. The ones who saved you from him, that’s what they said. That he was evil and he needed to be stopped. So with all your might you push but you feel your strength fading, faster and faster. You let out a frustrated groan, “Get off!” You buck your hips weakly, a last futile attempt to get this man off you. But he stays on, glaring at you tears dripping down hitting the concrete your back is against with a small drip sound.
“Please, just listen.” He begs, he takes a deep breath. Slowly letting go, putting down his pride, he would do anything for you. He rests back on his knees before putting his palms to the ground and laying his forehead down. Bowing in front of you, there’s no certainty you won’t take this chance to attack again, but he needs to try, his voice cracks, “Please. Listen.” Your breath hitches in your throat, this man was nothing like what the scientists had told you, this man wasn’t ruthless… this man didn’t kill without constraint. But maybe it was an act? You swallow.
As you sit up, staring at him. He can feel your eyes on him, deciding. His body starts to tremble, this is his shot to get you back. His shot to be happy again. He’s praying to whoever will listen that you’ll hear him out.
“Okay.” You whisper, your voice reluctant. You back up a little as he sits up. His face by itself shows how relieved, but the tears in his eyes just confirm it. He nods and takes a deep breath. He doesn’t even know where to start. Where could one begin when they have a lifetime of history together? He opens his mouth but the words won’t come out. He sniffles back his tears and starts.
“Three years ago…”
𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭
Your confused face is all that’s left when he’s done, he’s almost certain you don’t believe him. That you think he’s full of shit.
“You and I? Engaged?” You ask hesitantly. He nods softly, “For about a year. The wedding was going to be in spring.” He says like he’s so sad that it wasn’t. Saying Spring like it was a venomous event that happened once a year.
Spring… you always loved spring. The way the flowers bloomed and the way the rain fell but the sun would come out in the same day. The smell of the flowers, the way the animals would come back out, you loved it, all of it. Spring was your favorite.
“How do I know any of this is true?” You ask, of course you wouldn’t believe him. For the past 3 years you had been fed words that this man was evil incarnate. Something to be disposed of. But the way he looked at you said otherwise. Said that maybe he had a heart. Maybe he was telling the truth but you can’t remember, what proof does he even have? His words alone don’t make it true. What proof?
Katsuki thinks and thinks, what could he show you? What could help you believe it? He gets an idea, “If you stay here I’ll go grab something, I’ll be right back.” He says standing up, waiting for you to nod before leaving. Once out of the warehouse he runs to his car, practically tripping over his feet. He opens the passenger door looking for his phone, which is on the floor board for some reason but he doesn’t care, he grabs it and sprints back inside. All the while he’s unlocking his phone and going to his photos. Yes, yes! The photos that he kept because it was too painful to throw away, he thanks the stars that he kept them now. He opens the album, the one that’s just for you and he shoves the phone in your face. “Look through those.” He says as you cautiously take the phone.
Flipping through the pictures, they’re you alright. Without the scars, with Katsuki. Every single one of them you’re smiling, in every single one of them he’s looking at you like you hung the moon, like you hung the whole fucking solar system. You glance at him, he’s just staring as the photos pass. You keep going, each one brings up a new feeling, a growing one. That this really did happen, somewhere, deep inside you. You know this is true. But you can’t bring up the memories. You just can’t. Once the photos end you look at him. Your expression softer, you don’t know if you can trust him yet. But he hasn’t hurt you, in fact he’s only been hurt himself.
His nose is bruised and there’s no doubt that he has damage to his ribs. You hand his phone back, and with reluctance you say, “I’m sorry I kicked you.” You look away like the words weren’t meant to be said. If the scientists could see you now they’d probably whip you again, the thought makes you shiver. He notices immediately, “It’s fine…” He contemplates asking, “Are you cold?” He says after a minute. You shake your head no.
After a while of silence, he musters up the courage. “Where have you been?” You look at him, he looks sad. Hurt. You wonder if you should even tell him, but the sincere look in his eyes makes you want to.
“I don’t— it’s complicated.” You say, running your hand through your hair, “It’s hard to explain.” He sighs, standing up.
“Come on, you can explain in the car.” You’re taken aback, since when did you say you’d get in a car with him? But he doesn’t wait for your confirmation, he just leaves. You jump up, “Wait— what?” You yell after him, “Come on!” He shouts back already out the door. You look back at the warehouse, then the door, you swallow and follow him.
When you exit, it’s evening. The sun is setting. How nice, you think. Pausing for a second, the ache in your head doesn’t even register anymore. The ache that’s been there for 3 years. You sigh softly before looking at him, he’s getting into a very nice black car. You look back at the sunset, purples and pinks and yellows and even blues mix in a water color portrait that is the sky, and you can’t help but wonder why you never got to see one in those three years. It's here now, isn’t that all that matters?
Katsuki watches you walk out, look at the sky and stare. It takes a couple seconds for you to look at him and as he gets in the car he has to silence his beating heart. He can’t get his hopes up. But he can’t help the fondness in his eyes when he watches you look back up at the sunset. You always called the sky water color, he always loved it when you took pictures to send him on patrol. He never told you how much he loved that. Maybe he’ll get another chance.
You take a deep breath before finally getting the car. The seats feel familiar, the leather cold against your legs, the stereo looks like you’ve sung a thousand songs from its music. But not a single instance of one of those songs can come to mind. Like fluttering memories from when you were a kid. The remembrance of your preschool just from the smell, but being unable to remember a single day spent there. Like an old love you lost your memories of. You look at him in the driver's seat. His expression focused but his eyes showed the wandering mind inside him. He drives away from the warehouse, once getting on the road he mutters one word : “Talk.”
You take a deep breath. “Three years ago I woke up inside this… hospital? I guess that is the best way to describe it. There were these people standing over me, once they saw I was awake they kept saying things like, ‘Oh thank God you’re okay.’ or ‘We’re so happy you’re alive!’. I remember they shined lights in my face and told me it would be okay, that they had saved me from someone and that someone would soon be here to take me back. I had no idea what was going on, my head was pounding, I had these deep cuts all over, I was just a mess.” His hands grip the steering wheel tighter, “I was really sad, I felt like I was grieving. They told me I had lost my fiance. I asked you know, I asked why, they held up a picture of…” You glance at him.
“They held up a picture of you, told me you had robbed me of my love.” His head whips over to look at you, “What?” He says, anger bubbling underneath his words.
You nod and continue, “They started rushing people out, telling us we had to leave before you came. That you would destroy the whole building looking for me if it came to that. That you wanted something from me but nobody knew what, just that I was in grave danger. They told me I should be grateful to them, because despite the fact that I was a target they let me have a home. So we left the building, we just kept moving until we got somewhere, it was sort of an abandoned hotel. Everybody got their own rooms, it was so many people, none of them like me though. Everyone else was in charge of me.” You shift in your seat.
“They told me I should be grateful.” You repeat, “That they saved me, and so I was. I did what I could, but they really didn’t let me do anything… then they set up their machines again, and told me if I really was grateful that I’d let them experiment on me. Different toxins, poisons, uhm steroids, or whatever they could get their hands on. They would slice open my skin,” You gesture to your scars, thick ones like a chunk of skin had been taken out, “and put whatever substance they wanted in and would watch as it festered. You know, science.” You chuckle sadly, “Whenever I asked why, you know, why do it? They told me that if they wanted any chance to get back at you for what you did to me, they would have to do these experiments. Or else how would they know if it worked or not?” You sniffle, “Three years of that. They took away my quirk so I couldn’t fight back, telling me if it somehow got activated while they were working someone could get hurt. That once they took it away they would give me strength serums so I could still fight. So I let them.” You say softly, your eyes shiny with tears, he glances over at you as you tell your story. His anger quickly turns into guilt, guilt for not being able to protect you. He felt pathetic. He felt like the worst person in the world— no, the worst people in the world were the people who did this to you. He could kill them, he huffs, “Then what?” He says gruffly.
“I asked them if I could have a mission, like the ones that did information gathering, and they put me in that warehouse. Then I saw you walk in, I didn’t know what to do, I didn’t know if they had planned this for some sick punishment for asking for more. I had no idea. I just acted on instinct, doing what they told me to do.” You look at him, your eyes glistening with unshed tears as you piece it together, “It was all a lie wasn’t it?” You sniffle. “All that time?” He can’t bear to look at you, not when you’re crying so he only nods.
You turn back ahead, your eyes shedding the tears you tried so hard to gulp back. Your cries get louder, and Katsuki has to fight to keep his emotions in check, he needs to be there for you. He reaches over, touching your shoulder, “It’s okay.” His voice wavers, was it okay? Nothing about this was okay! “I’ll get you to a doctor, we’ll see about your memory and about anything that’s still in your system, okay?” You nod, your face in your palms. The present is far too ugly to exist in. He keeps his hand there for a second, trying to ground you, but he feels helpless. There’s nothing he can do except be here and take you to the best doctor money can buy.
𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭
Four months later…
What a whirlwind the last few months have been. After taking you to the doctors the first time they had found numerous years of damage to your body (no shit), but also found some brain damage. Katsuki asked about your memory, would you ever gain it back? The doctor only shrugged, “Time will tell. Memory is a tricky thing.” A tricky thing, indeed. You remembered such small things, his favorite ice cream flavor, how he chops at the speed of light, you even managed to remember his friends names - who, when they saw you practically rushed you with hugs and cheers only to be screamed at by Katsuki that you weren’t ready for all that. But you couldn’t remember your birthday, having been told lies by those evil people that it was some random day. Katsuki worked day and night to help you, when you got confused it broke his heart but it didn’t matter what he felt. Not even close.
Once you were ready to leave, you wondered where you would go. Of course, Katsuki opened his door to you, only when you were ready. He didn’t want to rush you. He would hate himself if he pressured his love into living with him. He wouldn’t be able to live with himself if you felt forced to. He wanted you to want him. He wanted you to love him back, but he held himself at arms length. Only touching you when you initiated it. Never. The couple times you did was when you felt overwhelmed, in crowded spaces your eyes flitted from person to person; reaching for his sleeve to keep him next to you. The only safe person in the world it felt like. Despite the years of scientists shoving it down your throat, you had a history of forever with Katsuki that unconsciously brought you closer to him.
So you did move in, not that you had anything to move in but you slept there, on the couch, on the floor, even in the bathtub if that’s what you needed. He slept in the bed you once shared, but every morning. When the sunlight seeped through the window, he knew you’d be asleep in the other room. He wasn’t alone anymore. He wanted to come home, he wanted to be home all the time, more than ever.
Everyday there was a bit of progress, another question asked and answered. But even then there were times you wanted to punch and kick and scream, you were angry with him. You knew it wasn’t true - what the scientists said - but you couldn’t help the feeling. So he’d let you. He’d let you punch and kick and scream and slap him until you were all worn out and crying. Your forehead against his chest, sobbing. It was in those times he had to keep his emotions in check. When you were in his arms.
𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭𓋭
Six months later.
Spring was finally here. But this time around, for the first time in 3 years it didn’t feel like a heavy burden. Something that he had to get through to only suffer through summer. He comes home one day to find you sitting in the rain, the water dripping down your face and shoulders and hair. He smiles, he can’t help it. He sets his bag down, taking careful steps, you look at him. For the first time he knows you’re back, or at least you’re almost there. Your eyes. They told him so much. The way you looked at him. You had smiled at him before but not like this, not for a long time. The sweetest smile in the world. Then, to his surprise, you held out your hand.
“Come join me.” You said softly. His heart skips a beat then he walks out into the rain. His spiky hair losing its shape he takes your hand and sits down with you. He feels like he has you back. He rests his forehead on your shoulder, he cautiously, so slowly wraps an arm around your waist. “Is this okay?” He whispers, waiting…
“Mhm.” You hum. He lets out a shaky breath pulling you into him. And as you lean into him, he smells your perfume. It’s a new scent, not like the one you used to wear. But you’re also not who you used to be. Neither is he.
Growing and evolving into new people. Ones with new scars that get traced by careful and light fingertips. Panic attacks that get calmed down by equally shaky hands. Tears that get shared in the most random of times.
And now kisses that end too soon because lungs are screaming from lack of usage.
The new scent is nice.

Walking through the halls of Jujutsu High, looking for you, a dorky smile on his face. Finally… Finally having the courage to confess, the warm sunlight seeping through the windows, the smell that spring brought, it couldn’t be more perfect. He finally finds you out in the training yard with the others. While Maki and Megumi spar, you and Nobara sit and talk and laugh. Your laugh, God, he loves your laugh. The way you tilt your head back slightly, closing your eyes, smiling wider than ever. He loves your laugh.
Trying to keep it cool he walks over, “Hey!” He smiles brightly, “What’s going on?” He says happily as ever. Nobara turns to Yuji, barely containing a smile.
“Y/N’s got some news!” She says, shaking your arm, clearly more excited than you are about whatever it is.
“Really? What is it?” He tilts his head slightly, maybe if he hadn’t asked.
You turn to him and smile, holding up your phone, “I’ve got a boyfriend!” You say excitedly.
He feels like he’s hallucinating, it takes him 20 seconds to respond. “What?” He finally says, “You have a boyfriend?” He says, his voice softer like he was hurt. You nod ecstatically. The picture on your phone shows you with some… guy. He can already tell that this fucker doesn’t appreciate you. This guy hasn’t known you as long as Yuji. This guy hadn’t gone through High School with you. The missions and training and eating and sleeping or anything! Who even was this guy?
For fear of making you upset he swallows all these questions, clenches his jaw, and smiles, “That’s great, Y/N! I’m so happy for you!” He says through gritted teeth. He has to leave, before he says something he regrets. Before tears start filling his eyes, why not him? Why couldn’t you wait?
No, no, this wasn’t your fault. This was that bastard's fault. As soon as he gets to his room he closes the door, his back against it, taking shaky breaths. This wasn’t fair, not in the slightest! All of a sudden the warm sunlight wasn’t romantic anymore, the sweet smell that spring brought rotted in his mouth, he had to find a way to get you back.

It had only been 7 months since you started bringing the guy around, Yuji only bothered to remember his name. Nothing else. Yuji hated him. With a burning passion. He hated how your boyfriend groped you in public, he hated how your boyfriend never listened when you spoke, he hated how your boyfriend smacked the back of your head. The first time it happened, Yuji about jumped over the table to choke him. But he held himself back, he didn’t want to scare you. He never wanted to scare you, his beautiful girl. Even if you didn’t know you were his yet.
Devising plans to make you his was a headache within itself; he could kill your boyfriend? No, but then you’d be sad and he doesn’t want to make you sad. He could sabotage the relationship! But what if you were to find out? You would hate him! It felt like all Yuji could do was wait. And wait. And wait some more.
Wintertime brought joys, like snow, Christmas, New Years, hot coco and cozy nights. But it also brought rain. Your stupid boyfriend had forgotten to pick you up after a night out with your friends. So of course, Yuji, despite being tired - being tired was but a pebble in the road when you were right in front of him - stood with you. In the cold, already having shed his sweater to give you.
Now she smells like me… He thinks, staring at you. You looked so good in his sweater, but you didn’t look so happy. Not right now.
“Hey, it’s okay. I’m sure he’ll come.” Yuji says, wanting to comfort you, but what could he do? You wanted your fuckass boyfriend.
And when you start sniffling, tears filling your eyes he immediately pulls you into a hug, “Shhh… I’m here.” He rests his cheek on top of your head, breathing in your shampoo. He runs his hands through your hair as he feels you start to cry, “I don’t know why he doesn’t care.” You say softly through tears. Your words, your tears, the way you're clutching him - it all breaks his heart. He hates to see you in pain. If he wasn’t occupied with the love of his life he would shoot the fucker.
No, no, not shoot. He would peel his skin off. Yuji would cut off his fingers and force him to swallow them. He would pour acid in the wounds. He would—
He sees you looking up at him, “Hm?” He says, your eyes captivate him, even when they’re full of tears.
Your lip trembles, “Yuji… if I had something to tell you, would you be mad at me?” Yuji? Mad at you? He would much sooner take a bullet to the head then make you ever think you couldn’t talk to him. He wants to cup your face and kiss your lips, he wants to wipe your tears and make them go away. But all he can do now is nod. “You can tell me anything.” He whispers, his arms still around you.
You take a shaky breath, tipping your head down like you’re ashamed. “I don’t want to be with him anymore.” You let out a sob, “He hits me—“ Yuji doesn’t hear anything after that.
That motherfucker hit you?
You keep rambling but all he can think about is how he has to pummel this guy's face in. Once you’re done you look up at him, “Are you mad?” You ask softly, your lip trembling, your eyes looking for some sort of reaction.
“Livid.” He says softly, and looks down at you. Giving you a soft smile. “Hey, why don’t you take my keys, and drive to my place?” He says letting go of you and patting the pocket of his sweater that’s on you, the keys jiggle, “There’s food, blankets, heating, whatever you want. Help yourself.” He says warmly.
“B-but what are you—“ you start, “Don’t worry about what I’m gonna do.” Yuji says, cupping your face, his calloused hands against your soft cheeks make him want to stay but he has a bigger mission to take care of, he wipes your tears with his thumbs. “Just go.” He whispers.
He watches as his own car drives away, he smiles and waves. But as soon as your car is out of the parking lot his smile drops. He starts walking in the rain, towards the fuckers house. His fists clench the whole way, he’s on a mission and he doesn’t stop. The cold rain pouring down on him does nothing to freeze over the anger that’s boiling inside him. Yuji isn’t even an angry guy, not by nature. But right now anger is all he knows.
He marches right up to the apartment door of your now Yuji declares, EX-boyfriends house. He knocks on the door. No answer. What a tragedy, this was such a nice door too. Was. He kicks down the door, the man, the fucker, jumps in his sleep. Asleep? While his girlfriend was out in the freezing rain? Every new development makes Yuji more and more angry.
The man stares at Yuji, like he’s a demon with red eyes, “Yuji? What’re you-“ He gets punched in the face so hard he hears ringing.
“That’s for hitting your EX-girlfriend,” Yuji makes sure to emphasize “EX”.
Another punch, “That’s for leaving her in the rain while your lazy ass slept.” He’s getting more and more angry.
Punch after punch. It’s a miracle that Yuji doesn’t kill him. The sight of his broken face and bruised body makes Yuji feel a little better. In a final act of revenge, Yuji spits on the man’s unconscious body. “You should get your door fixed, wouldn’t want anyone to rob you.” He mutters as he leaves.

Going to Yuji’s place was nothing new, you had done it so many times. Birthdays, holidays, just to play games or watch movies with everyone. But being there alone, while Yuji did God knows what, it was a different feeling. As you enter his house, wiping off your feet at the door you notice things you hadn’t before… The chip in the kitchen counter, the small stickers that got placed here and there on the walls, the picture of everyone that’s hung on the wall. Everyone is smiling, this must’ve been taken before you got with your boyfriend. You think, you’ve never seen the picture but you knew it was taken. I guess now’s a good time to look as ever.
You examine each of their faces, clutching Yuji’s sweater close to you : Maki, Megumi, Nobara, Toge, Yuta.. Yuta looks at Maki with the brightest smile. You always wished for a relationship like theirs, one where your guy looked at you like you were the world. Instead of kicking you when you forgot to get him a drink. Your eyes continue scanning the faces, yours, smiling so widely, you miss that time; then right next to your face is Yuji’s… but instead of Yuji looking right at the camera he’s looking at you. Your eyes zero in on his face. His eyes look bright and his smile is wide like he’s laughing with you.
Yuji looks at you like you’re the world.
Heat crawls up your neck. How long has that been happening? You take a deep breath, just a coincidence. You walk away from the picture. Just a coincidence.
You’ve got to get out of these sopping wet clothes. You walk into Yuji’s room, surely he wouldn’t mind if you took some clothes. He did say help yourself. So you rummage through his drawers, looking for a pair of pants that would fit you. Finally finding some you take that and a shirt you found, about to leave his room when you notice something shining in the corner of your eye. You turn and look, there’s something gold.
Against your better judgment, your snoopiness wins and you walk over. On his desk there’s a bunch of crumbled up notes, a gold necklace, and a wilted flower. “Huh…” You say to yourself.
Well since you’re already here you might as well read the notes, you take a seat at his desk, the clothes you were holding go in your lap. You unfold one of the crumbled notes, trying to read the writing despite the fact that A) Yuji’s handwriting is not the best and B) the note was crumbled. But despite that you begin to read.
Dear My One and Only Love.
I wish that that day you hadn’t told me what you had, I wish that I had told you sooner than you had found him. I wish you had never found him. Maybe if I had the guts to, maybe if I didn’t wait until spring, until a perfect day to confess. Would you be mine? Or would you run into the arms of that man? I’d like to think you wouldn’t. But what I’ve come to realize from this, is that there is no perfect—
The note ends, was Yuji writing love letters? To whom? A prickle of jealousy wells up in your stomach, but you have no right to feel jealous. None at all. But curiosity still gets the better of you so you unfold another one, beginning to read a new one.
Dear Beautiful
The only way I can think of telling you is just to say I love you. I love you, I love you, I love you. I love your hair and your laugh and your smile. I love your lips, nose and eyes. I wish I could kiss you, I wish if I were to you wouldn’t be upset. I wish I could hold you, I wish you could be mine. I want to marry you. I want to take you away from this dangerous life and settle down with you somewhere. Would you want that? Would you want me—
Note ends. If only Yuji would just write the name! God, who is this for? You’d had no idea that Yuji was such a sap, such a romantic. You laugh to yourself, it was kinda cute. You bite your lip and continue reading. Note after note, each one crumbled and tossed. Then another would be made. He was so devoted to this mystery woman. It sorta made your heart flutter, imagining what it would be like to have Yuji be yours. You shove those thoughts back down.
The last note, you wondered if it would be grandiose, a final one to put the rest to shame! As you unfold the paper, careful not to rip it as you did the last one, losing valuable information about how Yuji wished for nothing more than to be yours, you notice this one is a drawing. You giggle, he’s taken to drawing this woman now?
But as the paper unfolds your heart drops to the pit of your stomach while at the same feeling like it’s in your throat. It's you. The woman in the picture is you— Were you the one Yuji wanted? Was that picture on the wall, the way he looked at you, was that no coincidence? You put your head in your hands, elbows on the desk.
The times when he bought you your favorite snack, or, or patched up your wounds, the times when he told you he loved you, you thought you meant as a friend! Everyone had “I love you.” as a friend right?!But the way he looked at you! God, how could you miss the way he looked at you! You felt like such an idiot for not noticing! And now what? Now you have a boyfriend, sure you don’t want to be with him, but you couldn’t treat Yuji as a rebound! What kind of bitch does that?! God you were such an idiot!!
You stand up starting to pace, what other stuff does Yuji have? Should you even look? With a curiosity that overcomes your fear of getting caught you open his wardrobe, you can’t hold back the gasp, pictures of you, your favorite snack wrapper, a lollipop stick, a lock of your hair, holy shit, how long has he had this stuff? Your eyes flit from one piece of you to the next. How long had he been collecting?
How long had Yuji been waiting for you, and you never noticed? Since before you got with your boyfriend? That’s what the notes said…
”I wish that that day you hadn’t told me what you had,” - Does that mean the day you told him about your boyfriend? You remember that, how he clenched his fists, how he ran off as soon as the conversation was over, how dejected he looked. God, you were horrible. In the middle of the.. shrine? Is a picture of both you and Yuji, your cheeks pressed together smiling brightly. You remember that picture. You remember how his arm felt around you squishing you against him. You sigh softly praying to whatever was out there, whatever was listening, hoping that if they had ears that they would hear you when you prayed for nothing to be ruined between you two.
You close the wardrobe and move to pick up the clothes that were now on the floor, having been knocked off your lap when you jumped up. As you walked to Yuji’s bathroom more instances came to your mind, the times when he guided you by the small of your back, when during training he would touch you for longer than he had to, when helping you up his hands would linger on your waist, when he helped you with your wounds he was always so gentle. So sweet with you, so sweet with everyone. You missed it, you had totally missed it.
As you undress to take a shower, hoping to wash this day off of you you pause. Yuji’s sweater, and now he was out there in the rain. Fuck! You’re so fucking dense! You sigh heavily, getting in the shower. You just want Yuji to come back, you want Yuji to be safe.
⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘
Walking home in the rain wasn’t exactly what he had planned, but at least you were safe. Safe from that fucker, safe from the rain, he sighed contently. Who cared if his knuckles were bleeding? You were at his place, you were wearing his sweater, he couldn’t be more content. He’s giddy just thinking about the fact that you’re at his home. Giddy about the fact that he gets to have you now, that you won’t be held back by anyone! You can finally be his! He’s so excited he could scream. As he reaches his apartment, he takes a deep breath hoping the doors unlocked for him.
He tries the handle and the door pushes open, Yes! he does a small victory cheer in his head. He steps inside dripping water all over the floor, he’s so cold but at least he’s home. At least you’re here and— wait, where are you? He walks into the living room and that’s when he hears it, the shower. You were showering in his apartment. His face turns bright red. You were showering.. in HIS apartment!!!
He fist pumps the air and jumps once or twice trying to contain his excitement, but it’s not working. He’s just so happy. Maybe he’d make you food! No, not maybe, he would! He would make you food! You had to be hungry after that long night, so even in his dripping wet clothes and cold to the bone he begins prepping a bowl of soup for you, and when the shower turns off he’s outside the door like a puppy. If he had a tail it would be going rampant.
When you open the door he practically passes out, you’re in his clothes! You’re. In. Yuji. Itadori’s. Clothes. Heat crawls up his neck, and once your eyes lay on him, you smile and he wants to kiss you. Right then and there but he holds himself back. “H-Hi.” He says his voice is raspy, for reasons unknown to him.
“Hi!” You run your hand through your wet hair, you know everything now, you spent your shower thinking about it, “Yuji, I-“
“I made you soup!” He blurts out, your eyes widen, “You made me soup?” He nods. You smile brightly.
“Thank you.” You say warmly. He doesn’t move from the door frame, and just stares at you. His fingers twitch, his mind going wild with thoughts, desires, he wants to smell your hair, he wants to kiss you, he wants to stick his face between your thighs and—
“Yuji?” You ask softly, “Are you okay?” He nods, but doesn’t move. You reach out and touch his arm, that’s when he breaks. He can’t stand it anymore, he’s waited so long. Too long.
He grabs your wet hair and smashes his lips against yours, making you gasp. He knows he probably shouldn’t do this, he knows he’s probably wrong and he’s waiting for you to push him away but instead… you pour gasoline in the fire and wrap your arms around his neck. He lets out a soft groan, just at you touching him he’s already so worked up.
He pins you against the wall, his hands moving from your hair to your hips, your waist, the back of your thighs, your ass, like there’s too much to explore and he doesn’t know where to start. His lips are frantic against yours and he doesn’t stop, he can’t stop. Not when he’s started. Not when he feels you kissing him back. It doesn’t matter that his clothes are wet because he can just take them off, right? He sheds his shirt, letting it fall to the floor. You pull away and he chases after your lips for a second before breathing heavily.
“Yuji, I-“ You pant, “I found the notes- gulp I found the notes on your desk, they were about me, right?” You ask looking into his eyes. He swallows, then nods.
“Yeah… yeah they’re about you.” He says breathlessly. “What else did you find?” He asks softly his hands settling on your hips, playing with the waist band of his own pants on you. You take a shaky breath, “The… the uhm— the stuff in your wardrobe.” He smiles, unashamed. Why would he be ashamed? His love finally knows, he doesn’t have to hide it anymore. “I love you.” He whispers, tilting his head and burrowing his face in the crook of your neck, leaving warm kisses.
“I want you.” He whispers between kisses, “I’ve always wanted you.” When you run your fingers through his hair he whimpers, his hands tightening on your hips. “Be mine.” He whispers looking you in your eyes.
It doesn’t take long to think about. It doesn’t even take a minute, not even 20 seconds. All you had to think about was the way he looked at you in that picture. The way he smiled when you did. The way he was so gentle with you. The way he was holding you now, more gentle than your ex ever had. You had found the one you wanted and he was right under your nose this whole time. You didn’t have to guess who he was, he was right here, whispering that he loved you into your skin, like the words will be immortalized if he whispers them with enough reverence, with enough devotion.
“I’m yours.” You whisper back.

⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘
It had been two months, two months since you were made a vessel, two months since you joined Jujutsu High. You hardly ever left Megumi’s side and for some reason he never minded, earning him a lot of teasing from his upperclassmen, Gojo, his friends - what a pain it was. But it’s something that had to be done, you got yourself worked up so easily. If he wasn’t there when you needed him it was safe to say either you or someone else would be getting hurt.
Your cursed spirit, the one that made you a vessel - well I suppose the Cursed Spirit user made you the vessel. But your cursed spirit, the one that Nobara named Kaji, had stopped scaring you so badly. But you had such a hard time gaining control over him… her? It? You had no idea, did curses even have genders? If they did, would they be offended by you calling it the wrong one? All of this was just so confusing.
How you could see all these odd monsters floating about, were they always there? Megumi did say something about how only those with the ability to see, could see them - does that mean now that you’re a vessel you have the ability now? You’re not even sure you want it.
You had met your upperclassmen the fifth day you were there, Maki, Yuta - who was, according to Megumi, just like you, only different. He also harbored a cursed spirit but it was of his own doing -, Toge, and a Panda… whose name was also Panda. You didn’t look too deep into the creativity of the name, not wanting to step on any toes- or.. paws?
Toge seemed to have wanted to help you, noticing you had a hard time speaking when addressing your curse, he offered some throat medicine with a smile that reached his eyes but all he said was something like Mayo? or Tuna? Something like that.
Maki was strong in her own ways, she was certainly skilled with her weapons. Megumi said they were called cursed tools, imbued with cursed energy they were more powerful than regular ones. They also had their own ranks, like Special Grade or whatnot. The first day you saw Maki spar made you never want to take her on. Ever.
Yuta, surprisingly, was incredibly kind. You don’t know what else you thought he would be like. Though, you knew he was a Special Grade Sorcerer. You wondered who else was and what were they like? Did they all have similarities? Or were they all as different as a finger print?
Panda was again, surprisingly kind. He acted a lot like Yuji in a way. He tried his best to help you adjust, he even tried once when Megumi was gone to calm down your emotions but only managed to make you cry more - causing the spirit to come out, Kaji. And he never tried again after that, letting Megumi take the wheel when it came to that.
All of them were so odd, but you knew they cared about you, at least a little. But you couldn’t help but only find solace in Megumi’s presence. You felt bad, of course you did, he spent a lot of his time watching you, making sure you were okay. Despite you two being about the same age, you felt so childish for always crying. You couldn’t help it! Everything made you emotional.
One time you were sparring with Megumi, who you couldn’t help but admit was very strong, one of the strongest people you had met. You had lost and you expected him to gloat, the way your friends would have, the friends you had lost. But instead he offered his hand to help you up, tears welled up in your eyes and your lip trembled. “Are you crying because you lost?” He asked squatting down to your level, truthfully, you had no idea. Something about how gentle he was with you, when you knew he had the capacity to be mean made you emotional, when you shake your head no he sighs. “Listen, I can’t help you if I don’t know what’s wrong.” He tilts his head like he’s talking to a child or even a dog.
“It’s— it’s just… sniffle you’re so nice to me.” You use both hands to wipe your tears and nose, your sleeves being used the most, “Even after Kaji has hurt you— sniffle because I can't get a hold of myself.” Oh brother, you’re such a mess all the time.
“Would you stop it with that?” He says, grabbing your wrists and pulling your hands away from your face so you have to look at him, sniffling and crying. “You act like it’s a chore for someone to be nice to you, knock it off already. You can’t get a hold of your emotions because there’s a big cursed spirit in you, stop acting like you’re pissing everyone off.” You just stare at him while he holds your wrists, making you look at him. It's a moment of silence before he stands up, picking up his weapon, which is really just a bamboo shaft, “Get up.” He says sternly, you wipe your nose and get up, your lip still trembling, your muscles sore but you have to get stronger. You have to.
⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘
Your first mission, you were scared shitless. Sure, it was only a low rank. But a cursed spirit is still a cursed spirit. And you were still scared. Megumi’s presence helped you a little bit, though you were still unsure of your ability to take it out.
As you walk into the abandoned building your hands tighten around your staff, the one that had been so graciously bestowed upon you by none other than Gojo Satoru. You weren’t quite sure if it was a cursed tool or just a regular tool, how would you be able to tell? It didn’t feel heavier— but what did you know? You’ve never held a staff! God, they picked the wrong person for the job. You’re just gonna freeze up once you see the spirit, Megumi is gonna have to do all of it. God, they picked the wrong person.
You continue walking, willing yourself to take the next step, “S-So… why’re we in a school?” You ask softly as the veil gets put down, you knew about that. Sorta. It was so much information.
“Cursed spirits mainly manifest in places that have high levels of negative energy. So for a school, someone could feel anxious, angry, frustrated, sad, etc. It’s easy for places like schools to manifest cursed spirits, just like funeral homes or hospitals.” He looks at you, “The more negative energy the stronger the cursed spirit, got it?” You nod and he nods in return.
Then there’s a gust of wind, you stop right in your tracks. It only takes Megumi two steps to notice, he looks back at you, hands in his pockets, “Come on.” You swallow and take a small step, “A little faster than that.” He says flatly.
You keep going, Megumi mutters, “We’re almost there.” You already have your staff ready, your body tense. And as you enter the classroom you see it and it’s— it’s—!
Small. So small. You lower your staff… “Is that it?” You ask softly. Looking at Megumi whose lips are quirked up in a smirk, “That’s it. Go get ‘em.” He pushes you forward softly, you step up to it, looking back at Megumi.
“I just… hit it?” You ask, “Like, that’s it?” He shrugs, “Yeah, take a whack at it.” You look back at the spirit, about to swing, then you look back at Megumi, “How hard?”
“Would you just hit it already?” He says crossing his arms, you lift your staff and hit it. The spirit gets knocked down and stays down… that was so much easier than you thought.. key word : thought. You whirl around and look at Megumi with a smile, only for him to point at the ground, when you turn your head back all of a sudden a curse is attached to your face. With a yelp you get knocked back your hands pulling and pulling but the curse has such a good latch you can’t. You’re on the floor now your back arching as you try to get this fucker off, your yells muffled. Why isn’t Megumi doing anything?
All of a sudden the spirit gets ripped off, but not by Megumi, he doesn’t have claws that leave scratches on your face, no, no, no. You watch as Kaji begins smashing the spirit into the ground, relentless as purple liquid gets sprayed everywhere. How did that little guy even have that much blood? You watch, your eyes wide as you slowly inch away, still on the floor, panting. You can’t seem to gain your breath back.
You feel Megumi’s hand on your shoulder, making you jump before— “Relax..” He whispers in your ear, you look at him; he’s squatted behind you, his face close to your ear, as he watches Kaji beat the spirit to a pulp. You feel a heat in your ears, “Watch.” His whispers, turning your head to the scene in front of you. You watch, wondering why Kaji isn’t stopping despite the spirit being long dead.
“E-enough..” You say softly, maybe it would work again? Kaji immediately quits, its fist covered in the purple liquid, dropping the thick stuff on the floor. Then Kaji vanishes and you exhale, great, now your throat hurts. You feel something warm running down your cheek, when you touch it and pull your hand away its blood. Of course you would be bleeding, a fucking curse stuck itself onto your face.
You hear Megumi stand up behind you, “Next time, hit it a little harder.” You almost want to laugh, but the pain searing in your throat and face makes it hard to even smile. You force yourself up on your feet, saying a thank you to Kaji in your head.
The mission was certainly an experience.

Sitting on his bed while he cleans your face wasn’t necessarily what you thought would happen. But when he grabs your wrist, ignoring your own words that you were fine as he drags you to his room, “You’re not fine, those are deep cuts.” He says.
That’s how you got here, trying your best to keep your tears in. You couldn’t tell if it was from the stinging of the disinfectant he used or from his gentle touch or the way he wasn’t afraid of being so close to you. Once he spotted your lip trembling he sighed, “What is it now?” He asks, cleaning a particularly deep cut, you shake your head no, “I’m okay.” You say, but it’s clear you’re about to start getting weepy on him again.
He pulls his hands away, “Take a deep breath.” You sniffle, a little loudly but it’s fine. He could not care less. Your fingers clutch his bed sheets, thankful for something to do with your hands. You take a deep shaky breath and nod, he gets back to work. You avoid his eyes, while his eyes feel like they’re everywhere. Thoughts run rampant in your mind.
Why is he sticking around me? Am I bothering him? Does he hate that I’m so dependent on him? Does he hate that I always cry? God, why can’t I just get a hold of myself? I wonder if Kaji hurt him on the mission, I’m so self centered, I didn’t even bother to check on him. He hates me. God, he hates me— a sharp pain bursts through your forehead, he.. flicked you.
“Would you knock it off?” He says glaring at you. “I can practically hear you fucking think. Just relax.” He huffs. “If I didn’t want to be doing this, I wouldn’t be.” His eyes meet yours. Like he’s trying to drill it into you.
For a second all you hear is silence, and you finally understand what it meant when they said that silence was loud. It felt static. Just you and Megumi, staring into each other's eyes. You blink once, twice, thrice— is thrice even a word? You’re not sure, all you know is that right now he’s right in front of you. He leans the slightest bit in, stops and his eyes flick to your lips then to your eyes. Like he’s asking permission. The moment is heavy, filled with unspoken words, undone actions. You give an almost imperceptible nod and just as he leans in more the door busts open—
Yuji was just looking for someone to talk to about his favorite movie, Human Worm? Or Death Worm. Whatever. So of course he marched right over to Megumi’s room, not even bothering to knock; he practically kicked the door off, almost knocking it off its hinges. What he sees inside is you covering your face that’s bright red with your hands while Megumi is on the completely other side of the room looking like a frazzled cat.
“Hey guys… what up?” He asks, a little confused.
What fucking weirdos.

⋮ summary : Megumi was tasked with clearing out a building of cursed spirits, easy enough - though he forced himself to not get cocky. As soon as the veil was down he began scouring, only to find… you.

He kept his guard up, he had no choice but to. He couldn’t feel the presence of it. The spirit. Why couldn’t he feel it? Sure it was supposed to be a low-level spirit but still… he should be feeling something. He walked through the abandoned building, supposedly it used to be a funeral home, easy for cursed spirits to manifest. He should be feeling something. He huffs continuing through the rooms until he hears a clatter, he conjures one of his demon dogs. Making sure to keep quiet as he walks toward the sound- another clatter. Then a hushed, “Shit.” A person. He walks a little faster.
Walking into the room he doesn’t see you at first, only the mess. Books scattered about, this must’ve been an office. Papers covered almost every surface, pens and stationery dropped here and there. At the center of it all, you, sitting on the floor amidst the mess. A woman. You were looking through the papers that were scattered on the floor, for what he had no idea. You didn’t look like a sorcerer, but he knew better than to drop his guard.
“Hey, you.” He says, startling you, you turn and look at him. His eyes study your face, “What’re you doing here? It’s not safe.” He says, trying to keep his tone from sounding even.
He watches you stand up, your eyes never leaving his. “It’s not?” You ask softly, “Are you sure?” You tilt your head, like a confused dog. What’s up with her? He can’t seem to get a read on you.
“I’m positive. It’s dangerous. You need to leave the building.” He says, you take a step forward.
“If it’s dangerous, why’re you here?” You ask, taking slow steps forward. “And why are you so tense?” He takes a step back.
“Stop. Stay there.” He snaps, why is he so creeped out by her?
“But you told me to leave, I’m just doing what you said.” You stand still, “You told me to leave.” You repeat softer, putting your hands behind your back and rocking on your heels.
He stares at her trying to figure out what’s so off about her. She doesn’t have an exorbitant amount of cursed energy, so why does she seem like such a threat? “Why’re you here?” He says, keeping his eyes on you, ready for his shikigami to attack if need be.
“Hmm, I can’t remember.” You link your hands together staring down now, you don’t stop rocking on your heels, “I don’t feel very good.” You say softly. A funeral home would do that, a place of sorrow and grief and pain. “Can you feel that? That weird.. um..” You hold your head, “My head hurts and my chest feels funny.”
Okay what the fuck is going on? He can’t tell if you’re a victim or a really good liar. “Can you tell me what happened? Start from where you remember.” He watches you look up as if you’re thinking.
“I was exploring… and then my- my friends! Where are my friends?” You ask, hope in your eyes. Could they be the missing piece? Megumi doesn’t know if he should tell you he saw corpses on the way in. There's no doubt that your friends are dead.
“We’ll look for them later. Focus.” He says, maybe a little meaner than he meant.
You look a little hurt by his tone, but you try again. “We went in and I.. I felt this… thing. It was like— a heavy presence, like I couldn't breathe. And they said it was nothing, that. And we kept going…” You pause, looking at him as if for confirmation that was good enough, seeing his expression you knew you had to try to remember the rest, with a little exhale you kept going, “And then we saw something.. I can’t remember… and then it went black.. but I could hear— I could hear screaming… and… and the sound of something wet..” Tears fill your eyes, “What’s going on? Why do I feel so weird? Where are my friends?” It’s clear you’re scared, and he has no idea what to do.
Comfort you? How? He can’t lie to you and tell you your friends are okay, considering the fact of the corpses. He couldn’t say that you would be alright, he doesn’t even know what happened to you. He was stuck. “Just try to relax, okay?” He just needs to think, what would Gojo do? Should he call for backup? He doesn’t feel the cursed energy though! Fuck! Tears keep streaming down your cheeks, somewhere in you you knew what happened… if only you could remember it.
As you continue crying, you only seem to work yourself up more, your shoulders hunch as you start to sob— wait… are your cries getting distorted? He realizes that this doesn’t sound like normal crying and as you continue he takes a step back. Lurching forward, now you’re on the floor, keeping you up is one hand pressed to the ground while your other grips your own shirt. That’s when there’s a crash, distant down the hall… his head whips that way and he feels it, the overwhelming cursed energy flowing from there, only to see a large special grade spirit heading right for him. Shit! He runs into the room you’re in, “Get up!” He shouts, but you don’t. You stay on the ground either you didn’t hear him or you couldn’t move, he’s assuming the latter.
But as he goes to pick you up to save you from the cursed spirits the spirit enters and knocks him back against the wall, so fast he couldn’t even get his guard up. But as he goes to summon his shikigami to attack he pauses, breathing heavily he’s trying to process what he’s seeing… instead of attacking you, the cursed spirit is… protecting you? The spirit holds its arms out as a shield in front of you. He can’t even think of what’s happening. If this was a case like Yuta he would’ve felt your cursed energy, but you hardly had more than an average person. Did you eat something like Yuji did? No, there wouldn’t be a cursed object in here, that would’ve been in the report.
The spirit stays where it is, breathing heavily but it almost sounds like a growl. That’s when he hears a choked sound, “S-stop…” You say, your voice hoarse and cracking, barely able to be heard. To Megumi’s surprise the spirit listens, lowering its defenses. He’s able to see you again, you look like you’re on your last leg hardly able to breathe. He has no idea what to do as he just stares for a second. If he tries to help, would he get attacked again? If he doesn't, would he get attacked? There’s so many things that are unknown.
To test the waters he steps forward, the spirit doesn’t react. Another step, and another, the spirit only watches. Eventually he’s reached you and he puts his hand on your back, “Can you stand?” You don’t answer, only able to focus on breathing, still clutching your shirt. You take shallow breaths, and he feels helpless. Could he pick you up without triggering the spirit? “Can you tell the spirit to go away?” He asks softly, he watches your lips tremble, like you’re putting all your effort into saying the words; “G-go… away..” You manage and the spirit listens. This is insane, Megumi thinks, but he doesn’t have the luxury to think about how bizarre the situation is before you start throwing up everywhere. Shit.
He has no time left to spare and once you’re done he picks you up, trying his best not to jostle you too much. Gojo is gonna get a kick out of this.

Megumi and Gojo sit outside a hospital room. Waiting for you to wake up, as soon as the two of you had left the veil you had passed out. With a sigh Megumi tips his head back, “So who is she?” he asks.
“Y/N L/N, 16 years old.” Gojo replies, “This case certainly is strange.” Megumi is beyond confused about the circumstances in which you have been put in control of a cursed spirit. “It’s unlike Yuji or even Yuta’s case. Up until now she had supposedly had no interaction with any sort of cursed spirit activity. No trouble with the authorities, normal grades, she seems just like a regular girl. So why is she all of a sudden a vessel for this cursed spirit, and why such a high grade one?” Gojo’s thinking out loud again, almost like he’s already figured it out and is waiting for Megumi to catch up. He confirms it with a grin thrown in toward Megumi, he hates this guy.
Megumi sighs again, “What happened?” He says finally relenting to what Gojo’s figured out.
“I’m sure you’re well and familiar with cursed spirit users, and in the fact that they can store those cursed spirits. My theory is that one of those cursed spirit users had already stored the cursed spirits that you,” he points at Megumi, always with the theatrics , “went to dispose of yourself. And when our main character, Y/N and her group of mystery loving lackeys stumbled upon this cursed spirit user they, they being the cursed spirit user, cursed each one of them with their own spirit. Their objective being that the overwhelming cursed energy would ultimately overwhelm their poor little bodies and,” he snaps his fingers, “die. But our main character somehow managed to survive the whole debacle, whilst her friend's bodies practically exploded from the stress put onto them. Much like if a cursed spirit is tormenting a person, they feel tension, yes? But what if that cursed spirit was more powerful? The tension would be higher, so their bodies were unable to handle it.” As Gojo explains it starts to get pieced together, except for-
“Why would the cursed spirit protect her though?” Megumi asks.
“Probably to protect their new vessel, for whatever agenda. And if our main character can manage to gain control again, like she did when she told them to stop. They listened. If she can manage to do that all the time, she’ll be of great use to us. But unfortunately we’ll have to go through a lot of push and pull with the higher ups to make sure she doesn’t get executed.” He says knowing it’ll come down to if she joins Jujutsu High or not - the ultimatum given to so many, Yuta, Yuji, and now Y/N.
With a soft sigh, Gojo stands up, “Well I have got some massive paperwork problems to get through. You should be there when she wakes up, she’ll probably like that you stuck with her.” He says, ruffling Megumi’s hair, to which Megumi huffs.
“Yeah, yeah, get out of here.” He stands up and decides to walk in to your room, seeing you hooked to all the monitors and asleep he sits down and starts thinking. Would you join us? Will you be able to gain control over the spirit? He could only wait for you to wake up. He only hoped he’d be able to explain it to you well.
It takes a couple hours for you to stir, reaching up to rub your head, a soft groan coming from you.
“Hey, it’s okay.” He stands up and walks over. Your eyes meet his and you study his face. You had met him.
“Hi..” You say softly, your voice hoarse and weak. “Who’re you?” You ask. He sits down in the chair next to your bed.
“My name is Megumi Fushiguro. Do you remember me from the funeral home?” He waits for you to confirm, which you do with a small nod. “Good, do you remember what happened?” You nod again, before looking at your hands.
“Did you get hurt?” You ask softly, like you didn’t want the answer. “I’m sorry.” Tears fill your eyes, “I don’t know what’s going on.” He feels a twinge of sadness for you, but covers it up.
“Don’t apologize, idiot. It’s not your fault. I’m fine.” He says, looking away. “You’ve been made a vessel for a cursed spirit.” You look up at him again.
“A what?” You ask, your eyes pink and a little puffy, “A cursed spirit? What is that?” You sniffle.
He explains it all again, the way Gojo might’ve but without sugar coating anything. Once you find out about your friend's deaths your lip trembles again, “I didn’t do that, did I?” You ask, and as he shakes his head no you can only nod and look back at your hands, “What now?” You ask cautiously.
“Now my teacher is currently advocating for you, the only reason you aren’t in a prison is because you haven’t actually hurt anyone. You’ll be under the judgement of what’s called the higher ups of Jujutsu society, they’ll decide whether or not you live or die.” He says, trying his best to not make you upset, seeing what happened last time you got worked up.
“What do you think will happen?” You ask, staring at your palms.
“Well, we’ve had cases similar to yours. They’re alive.” He says, intending to give you some hope. “Since the cursed spirit in you is a special grade, you’ll be under extra scrutiny.” He watches your expression deflate, he was so bad at this.
He watches you start to cry, worrying that if you get too worked up the cursed spirit will come back, and he says a little too loudly, “No crying! None of it!” He says, his hands out like he’s trying to get rid of the tears himself, you look at him sniffling.
“I’m sorry- I just- my friends.” A choked sob comes from you, “I know! I know! It’s okay, just please relax.” He says desperately, a light flickers, fuck, fuck, fuck.
“Hey, are you hungry? Do you want some food?” He asks quickly, trying to help you get a hold on your emotions, you look at him lip trembling before you nod, “Okay, I can get you food. What do you want?” He says, sighing in relief that the lights stopped flickering.
He needed backup.
It only took half an hour for Yuji and Nobara to arrive, holding a teddy bear, a boba tea, and of course food. You look at them, “Who’s that?” You ask Megumi, subconsciously shifting closer to him. Of course Yuji and Nobara were loud and invasive, of course you got nervous. So he sighs, “This is Yuji Idatori and Nobara Kugisaki. They’re… my friends.” He says as the two of them stare at you before Nobara jumps right in.
“I love your hair! Is it dyed or natural? It suits you so well!” She starts, her volume a little too loud, “Oh, I-“ You start but she cuts you off, “What kinda music do you listen to? How about clothing, where do you buy it?” She keeps going, rambling about different clothing stores, while Yuji starts bombarding you with the things they brought - both are talking loudly and while Megumi is used to it, you’re obviously not, judging by the way your lip starts to tremble again. It’s clear that Megumi is going to have to step in.
“Enough! Either you talk quietly or you don’t talk at all!” He yells louder than the two, causing both of them to look at him, even you look at him. A grateful look in your eyes. Yuji and Nobara silently put your food and gifts down before sitting down and talking quietly, taking turns even. And as you eat you can feel Megumi’s watchful eye on you. Watching you, are you getting overwhelmed? He’s never asked that question about anyone else but for some reason he feels protective over you; maybe in the same way your new curse does.
He watches you eat, making sure you’re always alright. And when the other two leave, he stays. Waiting, for what? He doesn’t know.
All he knows is that if he leaves, there’s a chance that your curse will be let loose, and he can’t let that happen. That’s what he tells himself, he needs to stay to keep you calm. To keep you level headed. That’s when Gojo walks in, “Hello kiddies, I bring news!” Megumi sighs, great.
Your eyes scan Gojo, “Who is that?” You whisper for the second time today, instead of Megumi answering Gojo goes ahead, “My name is Gojo, I am Megumi’s super cool and awesome and might I even say handsome teacher!” He does an eccentric pose, and you’re not quite sure how to take it… so you just stare.
“Not one for jokes, I see.” Gojo only smiles and you wonder about his blindfold, how can he navigate the space with his eyes covered? You watch as he walks closer before bending at the hips, getting in your face. You’re not quite sure what he’s doing and you back up a little. You glance nervously at Megumi and he gives you an assuring nod.
Gojo stands up straight, “Interesting, Megumi said he couldn’t feel any cursed energy from you when he had met you, but now you’re full of it.” He leans on his hand, “No matter, I bring good news.” He smiles, “I’m sure Megumi has at least sort of debriefed you on what your situation is, am I right?” You nod, wondering if he could see that. But he continues, what a weirdo… “So I went and talked to the elders, and no surprise they want you dead!” He says a little too joyfully for the context, “Buuuuuut, your super awesome and handsome teacher has managed to save your poor soul! On one condition,” Yup, Megumi saw this coming.
“What is it?” You ask softly, your fingers moving and tightening around your bed sheets, “Please, I don’t want to die.” Megumi once again, sees your bottom lip trembling, and he sighs, does she ever stop crying? “It’s fine, hear him out.” He says softly as to not upset you, you look at him and nod, sniffling back your tears for now, “What is it?” You repeat.
“Join Jujutsu High and become a sorcerer.” He points at you, smiling. “Just like your new best friend Megumi Fushiguro!” You swallow, “And… and if I join I can live?” You ask softly.
He nods, “That’s right but if you don’t,” He claps his hands startling you, “execution!” You take a small breath.
“I’ll join…” You look at Megumi looking for any sort of confirmation you did the right thing, you only get a small nod.
Welcome to Jujutsu High, Y/N.

Summary! : Rengoku is entranced by the new Hashira who just joined, Y/N! After a particularly taxing battle, Kyojuro had no choice but to rest, unable to train without causing himself harm, confined to his bed for at least a week. Although, it wasn’t half bad, not when you stuck by him.
⋆₊‧°𐐪♡𐑂°‧₊°₊·♡⋆⑅˚₊
Since the night he woke up and found you sitting with him. Since the next day when the butterflies told him that you hadn’t left his side. Since you woke up with his hand in yours and didn’t move it… He knew that he had managed to melt your cold heart. At least a little. Who else but the Fire Hashira? Of course you denied any allegations about your feelings for him to the butterflies. But your actions showed more than ever that you had grown fond of the man. The way you brought him food and ate with him, even though you had denied him such a pleasure in the months before. The way you sat with him when they cleaned his wounds, even though your eyes gave the impression you couldn’t care less, he could see the warmth through your guarded expression. You hardly left his side.
During the day you were quiet, only listening to his stories. Adding a small comment or hum in response. He talked enough for the two of you. Food, fights, adventures, his family. The topic always remained on him, whenever he asked you a question you would give the shortest answer you could - afraid that if he knew too much he would run away. Afraid that if you opened up completely you’d only get hurt. But soon enough the conversation would ebb back to him, and you’d be set free from worry. Only leaving to get some training in, change clothes, shower, etc.
When night fall came you parked right in the chair next to him, propping your feet up on the chair across from you, dipping your head and drifting off only after he did. For security reasons, you told yourself. To make sure he didn’t itch his wounds, you’d think as you watched him fall asleep. Just in case he gets thirsty or cold or too hot, as you looked at his sleeping face with a fondness reserved for only him. The look that you’d erase from your face completely if someone were to come in.
But as you slept you had no idea that in the night he would wake up, tired and sore, before looking at you. A small smile on his face, one he didn’t wipe away if someone came in, the butterflies could swear they saw hearts in his eyes as soon as his gaze met you. And every now and then, when you were deeply asleep he would move the hair from your face. Catching a glimpse of the scar on your forehead that was hidden by your bangs. Though he never asked, there was always a question in his eyes. How did you get those? He wasn’t sure he wanted the answer.

The week had passed and he was able to move freely again. Though a lingering thought replayed in his mind; what if she leaves again? Now that I’m better. Will she regain her coldness towards me? Or have I finally managed to break through? Will she stay with me? Or run away again?
After a couple days, he decided to try. Marching right up to your door, before he even knocked you opened the door. He smiled brightly, “Good morning!” He watched as you crossed your arms, “You know I can hear you walking here from a mile away?” You say flatly.
“I pour my passion into every aspect, including walking!” He says, happily and of course, loudly. But you’ve gotten used to that part of him now.
“It’s really loud, loud brings attention, attention brings danger.” Just as you were used to his grandiosity, he was used to the cold snap in your voice. He only laughed.
“I can handle danger! I’ve got the fire burning in my soul for it!” He crosses his arms over his chest, his signature pose. “Since I’m all healed up, Shinobu says I’m free to train again!” You can already tell where this is going. “Would you care to join me?” He says, hope in his eyes, a smile on his face. Could today be the day?
You clench your jaw. Could today be the day? What feels like minutes is really probably only a couple seconds, thinking about it. Could today be the day? With a tone that betrays you, you say, “Yes.”
Kyojuro stands there, processing. Holy. Fucking. Shit. She said yes. You can tell by the way he’s staring that he doesn’t believe it, “What?” He says after a moment. You turn and grab your sword, “Yes. Let’s go.” You walk past a baffled man and towards the training field. It takes him a long moment to catch up before he runs after you, the biggest smile you’ve ever seen is plastered on his face. He can’t believe it! After all this time, how long has it been? 3,4,5 months? Constantly asking and now here’s his moment! He can’t possibly let you go now. Not when he’s so close. Not when he can taste it. Not when you’re within arms reach! Be prepared Ice Hashira! Kyojuro is coming after you!
⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘
The first time you trained it was a small session, both of you unfamiliar with each other's fighting styles and spent most of the session trying to recognize each other's tells, when they would duck, strike, use their fists, headbutt, etc. Nothing was out of the rules, even biting was allowed. But after the first session, the ones that followed were powerful, explosive even. You somehow managed to gain a crowd of lower rank swordsmen watching you spar. Their eyes tracked both your movements as you struck again and again, both of you relentless in your attacks. Strong and steady at the same time. You both worked beautifully together and against each other. It was a perfect balance.
The sparring only ended if A) the other person gave up, which never happened. Never. B) the other person was rendered unconscious, again. Never happened. Or C) a person got pinned or got their sword stolen. Which was always the result, at least after an hour of straight sparring with one another. Both of you unwilling to quit, risking pride, and now respect of the lower swordsmen. Even Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu were watching! Kyojuro’s passion kept him going, whilst your pure will pushed you to continue. It felt like this fight was going on forever. Both of you were hell bent on winning.
Sweat dripping from both of your faces, tired, yes, but determined still. The younger swordsmen even started placing bets, not just on who would win. But how? Would a bone be broken? Would someone get a concussion? All of these things and more were bet on - ethical? Maybe not. Entertaining? Of course.
It all came to a standstill when your swords came together, put into a strength battle which he undeniably had you beat in. Your strength was found in your speed and agility. His was found in his brute power, this was a losing battle, so of course you head butt him. So hard that you hear ringing, making you certain you got him. He gets knocked back, his head pounding. Now you pause, standing, bruised and battered, breathing hard and to top it off both of your heads were pounding. Finding what little strength you have left you kick his feet from under him, his eyes barely have time to track you before he’s on the ground. You step on his wrist first making him let go of his sword for a moment before tightening his grip, your hand keeps his other wrist pinned as you sit on him. Panting you say through gritted teeth, “Give up.” He can see a fire in your eyes, the fire that he loves and he smiles. Which only manages to aggravate you. You dig your heel into his wrist and he winces, “Now.” You say sternly, “Give. Up. I’ve won. You’re pinned.” You breathe.
There’s only a static quiet from the peanut gallery, watching what would happen next, if they were sitting they’d be at the edge of their seats. Kyojuro only looks up at you, his eyes tender, your face contorts in anger. “Why’re you just staring at me? Say something!” You shout, it’s the loudest he’s ever heard you. He whispers something so softly you almost miss it.
“You look so beautiful.” It stuns you. Your lips part as your eyes widen. You have no idea what to say. You have no idea what to do. Here you are staring down at this man that you’ve beaten, hell, you just headbutted the shit out of him… and he’s calling you beautiful? There’s nothing beautiful about this picture. You huff angrily, standing up, you sheath your sword. “I give up!” You shout angrily as you walk away, fist clenching, jaw tight, eyes pointed downward. You leave Kyojuro laying there, now he’s propped up on his elbows watching you leave. The swordsmen that were watching could only stare, before the whispers started, “What did he say?” - “I don’t know, maybe he knows something about her.” - “What could he know?”
Kyojuro snaps out of his daze, scrambling to his feet, almost forgetting his sword before he runs after you, “Y/N, wait!” He manages to catch up with you, you’re walking fast wiping sweat off of you angrily, a scowl on your face. You refuse to look at him. “What’s wrong? Why are you upset?” He asks, his eyes on you, only you. Truth be told, you don’t even know why you’re upset. You just are. And you want to shout.
You stop and turn to him. “What the hell was that?!” You yell, your eyes burning with anger, “That was a cheap trick, you fucking asshole!” You push him with your hands on his chest. His confused look almost makes you feel bad, but your emotions are running high and you can’t help it. “Why would you say that to me? I had you beat! You can’t just- just- Say that! You should’ve given up! I had you pinned!” Something about your tone makes him believe this goes deeper than competitiveness.
“I upset you.” He says calmly looking you right in your eyes. “I’m sorry.” He says softly. Making you falter for a second. Why were you so angry?
“You- I- Stop! Stop it!” You take a step back, “Why are you doing this?! What’s the point?!” You shout, he only takes a step forward.
“Doing what?” He keeps his voice calm, and your lip trembles, stop it. You tell yourself. “Called you beautiful?” He asks.
“All of this! The- The constantly asking me to train with you, or eat with you! Or calling me beautiful! Or staring at me! Stop all of it! Stop!” You shout, you don’t mean the words you’re saying, stop talking. Stop. “You don’t want me! You don’t! You’re gonna end up hurt.” You say your voice getting quieter. “You’re gonna end up hurt.” You repeat, but your voice betrays you with a crack.
“No, I’m not. It's okay. I know you’re scared-“ He reaches for your face, only for you to back up “I’m not scared!” You shout. You watch his face reveal the slight hurt when you pulled away from him, you can’t bear it. You turn and begin to walk away but he grabs your wrist, “No- No, talk to me. Right now. Talk to me.” He spins you around to face him. “Now.” His eyes are desperate. “I’ve gotten this far, I’m not letting you slip away now.” He says.
You stare into his eyes, your lips trembling, you will yourself not to cry. “Stop. Please.” You beg, you give a weak pull of your arm to loosen his grasp but he’s not letting go. “You stop.” He says, his tone getting stronger, “You need to talk to me. What are you so afraid of?” His grip gets tighter, keeping you near him.
“You dying! Kyojuro! I’m scared that you’re gonna die!” You snap, “I’m scared that if I let you in you’re just gonna leave! I’m scared that you’re not going to like what you see!” You start to ramble, tears filling your eyes, “I’m scared of everything! I’m scared that you’re going to make me feel happy and then take it all away!” Tears begin to roll down your cheeks, you can’t bear to look into his eyes anymore and you look down, “I’m scared of everything.” You say. Tears drip off your chin into the dirt, for a moment he doesn’t say a word.
He stares at you in silence, there it was. You finally said it. To your surprise he pulls you into a tight hug, his hand that once grasped your wrist now tangled in your hair, his other splayed across your back, his face against your shoulder breathing you in. You gasp softly, your body stiff as a board. What should I do? He’s not letting go. You feel your eyes well up in tears again, you hadn’t been hugged in years. With arms that suffered from lack of practice, you cautiously wrapped your arms around him as well then you hug him tighter. Burying your face in his neck, you try to hold back your tears but it’s no use.
The scene is nothing short of sweet, a man and the one he loves. The one who he finally managed to break through, the one he spent most nights dreaming about and every day thinking about - and she was finally in his arms. He tightens his arms around you, “It’s okay.” he says softly when he hears you begin to cry.
Maybe you could learn how to love again, maybe after all these years you could be soft again, maybe this time you wouldn’t be as reckless, maybe he won’t leave so soon this time. Thoughts swirl in your head, only to be silenced by his words. Maybe it would be okay.
You’re not quite sure how long you two spent in each other's arms, all you know is that he only pulled away after your tears dried. This time when he reached for your face you didn’t pull away, letting him put his warm palm on your cheek. You look into his eyes, looking for any sign of deception, that he didn’t mean it. But all you saw was warmth. All you saw was longing. Desire. Love. And when he leaned in, pausing to look into your own eyes, he saw that yours mirrored the way he felt.
Gently brushing his lips against yours, like testing the waters, praying you don’t pull away. He cups your face gently, treating you as something that could break or run away at the snap of a twig. He presses his lips to yours, closing his eyes as he does. The kiss is warm, soft, lovely. You’ve never experienced anything like it, you’re almost worried you’ll never experience it again. Your hands reach up to grasp his wrists, your lips pressing back against his, cautiously. Eventually he pulls away, looking right into your eyes. “You’re so beautiful.” He whispers again and you can’t help but wonder what in the world he sees in you. “Thank you.” You whisper back.

It takes who knows how long for you to get used to how touchy Kyojuro is, even then you still jump every now and then when he surprises you with a kiss. Always wanting to be near you, no matter the occasion. Hands on your shoulders, or in yours, or on your lower back, or hips. It didn’t matter to him, he has no preference because he’s all you. Though he was cautious at first, considering how you practically jumped out of your skin anytime he touched you without you first seeing him. Hell, the first time he did you about pulled your sword on him, only to see his loving eyes.
Then he went further, kissed lingered more. His hands exploded more, always checking your eyes, were you okay with it? He dug more into your life, finding new things out. Your favorite food, how you always seem to get targeted by mosquitos, how you gnaw on your lips when you’re nervous (which is not a lot but something he’s noticed nonetheless), how you’re always hesitant to initiate; practically always counting on him to, not that he minds. He never minded anything about you.
Then came the first time he says that he loves you, it came out of nowhere. You were just drinking tea, it was raining and you were sat on the porch, having always loved the rain. You told him in a moment of peace that you had loved the way the rain danced, how you first had tried to master water breathing but couldn’t. It was when he saw you staring at the rain, drinking tea, your guard down. It was then, with you staring at the rain and him staring at you. “Y/N.” You look at him, your gaze holds no more of that cold that it once did, you hardly ever held yourself the way you did 11 months ago. “Hm?” You say, still not one for talking much.
“I love you.” He would say, letting the words ring out. Letting them settle within you. Watching you digest them. He wondered if you would say it back, but you only nodded. He smiled softly as you turned back to the rain. Knowing in some way it was reciprocated, that you just needed to find the right way to convey it.
No, you didn’t say it that day. But you did say it a year later. In a completely different setting. You had wrestled with it, if you say it would it change things? But when you feel the way you do about a person you can’t help but show it. Good, bad, ugly, or beautiful. Whatever it is, it gets shown. Light always shines on the things we feel fiercely. So when you came home, a long mission; you had been gone for a month and a half, when you saw him. You knew, you might’ve always known. But you felt it so deeply in that moment, when he hugged you, and spun you around in typical Kyojuro fashion. That you loved him. You had found the one, the one you felt safe enough to let in. “Kyo?” You say, the nickname no longer felt rushed or forced, it felt right. When he leaned back, his arms were still around you, “Yes, my Sunflower?” He says smiling, you could tell he missed you.
One of the only times you had ever initiated touch was now, you touch his cheek and kiss him gently before pulling away. “I love you.” You whisper, like if the words were spoken too loud they would lose all their meaning and then where would you be? You only said the words you meant. You look him right in the eyes, his face soft, his eyes only slightly wider, he knew it would come. He knew it. It was here now. “I love you too!” He says loudly. You already knew that though.

When you found out you were pregnant, all those years later, truth be told you were scared to death. You were horrible with kids, kids saw your scars and cried, kids looked into your eyes and ran away, you were horrible with kids. But of course your husband was ecstatic, he was great with kids - he had nothing to worry about. Having been long retired from the Demon Slayer corps, opting for a quieter life. One where you both could live in peace, without fear of losing one another - Kyo was certain you would make a wonderful mother, but I mean really, what did he know?
And finding out it was twins? You were almost certain you wouldn’t be able to be a good mother, you had never known what it was like after all. But as soon as they were born, you felt your eyes well up, you felt them in your arms and you could’ve sobbed in that moment. How beautiful they were, you thought. You felt your heart melt at the sight of them. Kyo was the same way, he couldn’t help but be in awe of them, of you. Of his beautiful wife, and as your sons grew up they would hear stories about how scary their mother once was. How their father tried and tried and their mother had none of it. Of course they couldn’t believe it, what with the way you looked at father. With the way their father looked at you.
It only took so long for you to let those ghosts go, to forgive yourself, was it ever really your fault? Nights spent crying on Kyo’s shoulder provided more warmth than you had ever experienced. Days spent with your family brought solace, to know that you would never leave them. Knowing that Kyo would never leave you, you found peace. You found love.
Kyo had finally been able to melt away that cold Ice Hashira’s heart. What he found underneath? Worth more than life itself.
