Am I the only one who doesn’t feel hopeful at the idea of them changing some parts of the first shadow before putting it on Netflix?

Like they specifically said they’re changing it to match up better with season 5 so what if they’re erasing all the parallels that made us so certain we were right in the first place?

My biggest fear is that they’ll do everything they can to get rid of creelby and byler parallels and change Vecna’s backstory to make it match up with the inconsistencies they bullshitted in season 5

My take on the live action spiderverse rumours:

No offense to Caleb McLaughlin and Emma Myers but they CANNOT play middle schoolers and then wait 3 years to play high schoolers

It just won’t make sense and neither does making a live action for a movie series that’s good BECAUSE its animation

The style of animation is what makes it unique and so popular

But I do think Caleb and Emma might be playing live action versions of the characters, except they’ll be from ALTERNATE DIMENSIONS

From that one scene in across the spiderverse we see a live action version of the prowler in the spider HQ, so who’s to say there isn’t a “live action” version of Miles and Gwen out there somewhere?

I think they’ll play those versions of them in beyond the spiderverse and THATS why they’re following each other and why Caleb has been posting himself doing gymnastics on his socials recently

If they do end up making a whole live action adaptation tho they’re gonna have to age up the characters cause they CANNOT pass for 13 and 14

“Nico Di Angelo is a token gay! His coming out scene sucked!” babes I’m BEGGING you to remember 2013 gay characters were not allowed in children’s media.

Lemme say that again: In 2013, it was expected that gay characters would be censored in children’s mass media.

Remember Korra? How she and Asami had to settle for ambiguous handholding rather than a kiss? That was fully a year after House of Hades came out. Nickelodeon said No Gays, the Children™ can’t handle that. Too risky. And people said man that stinks, but that’s how these things go in 2014 America.

Gay marriage was literally still illegal in the vast majority of US states. As of October 8th, 2013 (House of Hades release date) Gay Marriage was only a thing in thirteen fucking states. California had only legalized it that year.

Gay people were still very much on the fringes of society. It was an acceptable political position on both sides of the aisle to be against the existence and equal rights of gay people.

Nico was legitimately a landmark character in queer representation. To my knowledge, there wasn’t before an openly gay main character in a bestselling ya/middle grade fantasy fiction series. It simply was not a thing. They didn’t exist. They weren’t allowed to exist.

I remember people crying. Finally. It was a watershed moment. Kids all across the world finally got someone who represented them. It was such a big fucking deal. And it was controversial!!! Not for the reasons it is today, but because people thought gay kids having representation was inappropriate.

Is Nico’s coming out a great scene? No, these days it leaves a lot to be desired. It’s not perfect by any stretch of the imagination and I’m sure Rick wishes he could change it. But the fact that’s the case is a wonderful reflection of how far we’ve come.

All of your gay heroes in children’s media have Nico Di Angelo to thank. It was important, and good. It deserves to be celebrated, even if we’ve progressed past it since.

Possibly unpopular opinion: I also liked his coming out scene (to the whole camp) that was described in TSATS, when he was nervous at first but actually decided to say “fuck it, if I can’t be myself here then it’s not worth it” and just seeing how far he’s come after HOH is amazing

A lot of people hate on TSATS for being “too much like fanfic” or “corny” but I personally liked it

And don’t get me wrong it IS corny and the writing is definitely very different from the rest of Rick’s books but I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing in this case

Sure we love the old writing style but it also had its flaws, like the way Rick always avoided heavy topics like PTSD and trauma in general. Percy expressed suicidal thoughts several times during PJO and HOO and it was never properly addressed, but in TSATS Nico and Will talk openly about it, and don’t skirt around the topic like it’s something to be ashamed of

So yeah, I’d rather have more corny writing and somewhat ooc characters if that means the next generation of middle schoolers will learn that having those types of thoughts isn’t something to hide and allow to fester, and that there are always people to help them

I don’t mind if there’s a mileven henderhop love triangle for a little while as long as it’s not dragged out too long and Mike soon realizes that he doesn’t like El for the reasons he thinks he does and their friendship is given justice (s1-2 elmike my beloved)

Doesn’t have to be a rewrite either (but that would be amazing), I’m also good with a college au or smth
