OH HEY. TRAINING LOG: WHATEVER. This was from yesterday, because tbh I've almost completely forgotten about tumblr but anyways quick facts: 1. My programming or ~fitness goals~, etc. can't just be related to powerlifting (which I love) or weightlifting (which I also love), because firefighting demands so, so much more than a triple and a 20rm on occasion. 2. But that being said, being a firefighter isn't reps for jesus or anything, and that's the problem - there is no "typical call". Sometimes you're chilling on a hoseline 20 feet outside, sometimes you're dragging a victim that weighs precisely jesus-take-the-wheel pounds out of a building, and sometimes the tones go off at oh-dark-thirty so you bolt out of bed and run straight into the door frame for something that ends up being an alarm trip (not that I've done that before). Point is, I'm - for the most part - done being a strength athlete. I thought about just being a "powerlifter that runs", but I pull hose with my hips anyways, so giving up weightlifting also seems dumb. But then cardio is important because a) the faster you move, the more likely it is that everyone goes home, and b) the more efficient you are with your air supply, the more you have to work with if you get trapped/lost (which is actually super terrifying and great motivation for burpees). SOoOoOoOo my idea is that I'm sort of training for a super total, but with my mile time being tested as well, and so far so good. It sounds dumb and like I'll never make any gains, but I've always been good with volume training, and my pressing strength has been going up like crazy so I'm not complaining. This was week two of adding weightlifting back in, and my wrist has been rock solid. I've done so much rehab with my right arm that it's actually my left arm that's more unstable with the oh position. My wrist isn't hurting today, and that's definitely a good sign. So far I like this programming, it's definitely showing up when we do drills at the station, and honestly I'm having a lot more fun with it. Still gonna compete though, just in everything fun this time. Side note: the guys wanted to do Murph at the station and when they asked me (I have to say yes to everything) I was like, "of course! I love pain and suffering!" Long story short, finished everything but the last mile at 32:14 (I was in the lead whaaaat) when my engine got a call, so I came back a half hour later and lost completely haha. Major progress though.
