A pattern I really love is how women affect sephiroth’s arc:

He’s constantly searching for his mother, and even carries a photo of Lucrecia in his pocket

Elfe asks him why he fights, and states that she fights for a reason, inspiring Sephiroth to find a reason of his own

He finds Jenova, and in his mind, he’s found both his mother and a reason to fight

And he’s ultimately defeated by Aerith, who is an ancient, something he mistakenly thought he was

You could argue that women are responsible for his creation, motivation, and defeat. Which I personally love
