Jets fans purchase billboards to mock Patriots QB Tom Brady
Several new billboards have been popping up in the New York – New Jersey area that reads “#TomShady” — mocking New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who received a four-game suspension for his involvement in Deflategate.
According to the New York Daily News, a spokesperson for the billboard company said that a group of “anonymous Jets fans” (no kidding) had paid for the mocking signs, but she declined to reveal how much they spent. “Jets fans are very opinionated,” the spokesperson told the Daily News. “Because billboards are something that is seen by everyone, they knew the power of message and they wanted to it get it out.”
Of course, the Jets have a long — and mostly tortured — history with Brady’s Patriots. In 2007, under then-coach Eric Mangini, a former New England assistant, the team notified the league that the Pats had videotaped their defensive signals during a 38-14 opening-week rout. That sparked the “Spygate” scandal, which resulted in New England getting a heavy fine and losing a first-round pick.
Last season, Jets fans posted billboards calling for the team to fire then-GM John Idzik. He would eventually land on the chopping block and was let go after a dismal season.
However, the group that organized the Idzik billboards said they weren’t behind the latest anti-Patriots billboards.
