We made pierogi today. I grew up eating and loving them, but had never made them from scratch before. It was really fulfilling to have this experience. I can imagine my grandparentsā grandparents preparing pierogi. I picture a timeline of my family members stretching dough around filings: a long line of Kawczynskis and Oleksys and Jewiarzes and Zimas and others. A long line of ancestors, stretching back in time and simultaneously forward; now including me. I find myself wishing Iād had this experience with my Mom and my Grandma; though I never did, the process made me feel closer to them both and to my family and myself. . I also felt some ease come over me today. Since July, the month we moved into our house and my Momās health took a turn, I have done very little cooking. I do enjoy it, but my fears and emotions prevented me from staying present, relaxing, and allowing for joy. Today I felt the sting soften as I eased into this three-hour-long process. Slowly, slowly, it melted away, at least for today. . I also cannot say enough about the amazing man I share my life and home with @ten_of_cups_healing. From patiently participating in the three-store shopping spree as I searched for the perfect ingredients, to filling and crimping pierogi even after he discovered itās NOT his favorite thing, he is the most supportive person I could have dreamed I would spend my days with. . Now for koÅaczki! . #pierogi #mcm #family #cooking #polishheritage https://www.instagram.com/p/BuBGZbVgBjV/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1e4iuzmc74zyk
