When I was a kid and adults would ask me,“What do you want to be when you’re all grown up?” I never thought to reply with, “healthy.”

I am worried my body won’t keep up with my ambitions.

We learn to tolerate the physical pain. You have to. But it’s the overwhelming emotional burden that makes you feel like someone is holding your head down in the water. You can fight it, but you can never overcome that crushing feeling. How are you supposed to get rid of an emotional suffocation when the source of it is never going to go away? Being sick is being stuck in the eternal clutch of the unknown. Any day anything could go wrong, or at least more wrong than it already has. It’s so hard not to feel anxious or depressed or completely lost when all that lies ahead is a giant question mark.

Emotions that go with being a Spoonie
Fear: this is a big one. It is easy to be afraid when you are sick, and as spoonies we are always sick, but then the other stuff starts to add up quick, turning into a deep downward spiral of doom
Loneliness: Spoonies are often left out of invitations or can’t go even if they are invited. Friends ignore calls, until they have time to deal with their “sick” friend. Quite frankly, able bodied people don’t have time for spoonies so we are lonely. Spoonies get left out of a lot.
Sad: this one is easy. Feelings of sadness come for all kinds of reasons as a spoonie. It’s sad being a spoonie and watching the world go by as if it were a television show and we are just watching it.
Anger: this is a big one. It’s easy to be angry for being a spoonie. Wondering why. WHY ME???
Self-Doubt: doubting yourself due to your disability
Feeling Inferior: always trying to overcompensate, prove that you are just as normal as everyone else.
Self-Pity: it’s easy to feel sorry for yourself as a spoonie, because you feel like everyone else does.
Mad at the world: this one is easy
Feel free to add any others that come To mind or things that you have felt.

I think one of the worst parts of having a chronic disease is how it sometimes just breaks you.
You can have several bad days in a row and handle it fine; then one day you lose it because you’ve gone so long taking it that you eventually get to a point where you just can’t do it anymore.
You’ll try to open the dryer door and can’t.
You’ll be cold and won’t be able to get warm. The kind of cold where you can’t get warm so you want to put your blanket in the dryer for half hour but you can’t open the damn door.
You feel grateful for any help you have, but you wish you didn’t need it in the first place.
No one tells you when you get sick that you will have days that don’t just test your pain levels or your patience, they will literally test your very will to get through the day.

You don’t realize how fast a month goes by till you’re on your period again and you just think to yourself, “damn its been a month already? I could have sworn I just got off this shit like last week.”
