Zeke knew exactly what this was, what he was, to Levi—the same thing he was to everyone else. A body. A useful asset, destined to stay on his knees and do the dirty work or be yanked up by the collar and paraded around like a circus animal.

But god, did he not give a single shit right now, because Levi was the very same thing to him; a warm, wet, perfect body that only complained in the exact way that got Zeke off. A body that sneered and bit and scratched, and accepted him in regardless.

So what even is Levi’s purpose in the story? What does he thematically represent? Why is he important to the story if everyone besides Eren is useless?

first of all. genocide is not useful. lmao

Levi is endurance. humanity. he's someone who sees and lives through so much suffering and hardship, and yet he keeps going and never lets it embitter him. he loses and loses and loses, and he still chooses to help. to fight. he makes a choice every day to hold onto his humanity, to care and keep caring even when it hurts him on such a deep, fundamental level. he's hope, not for the people of the walls, but for people like me.

he's also consistently associated with the wings of freedom, so there's that. does anyone else think about "so your wings are the real thing after all, Levi" on a daily basis?

and, well. he's literally one of the main characters. he's wrapped up in the story and influencing it in a lot of different ways. if you took him out. um. idk about that!

zevi week 2026. day 1: reincarnation.

Levi keeps dreaming about a man he's never met. A blond man with round spectacles and a beard that pisses him off for no reason. He can hear the man's voice clearly, but Levi never remembers what he says. Only that his words make him furious.

He can hardly believe his eyes when the man in ahead of him in the café line turns around; he'd recognize the blond man anywhere now, even without his glasses.

"Do I know you?" he asks before he can stop himself.

The man grins, gray eyes twinkling. "That depends. Are you gonna kill me?"

editing this thing is kinda funny. I've now written modern au Zeke, who is kinda a normal guy, A Man, if you will, has been to therapy, been a caretaker, holds hatred in his heart but is overall able to exist in a capitalist society decently well.

so you’re pretty much saying in the grand scheme of things levi was pretty useless

in the grand scheme of things, everyone is useless. it's what people do for those closest to them that leaves a mark. Levi is consistently shown as, yes, being a bastard, but also comforting dying comrades in their last moments, collecting patches off of corpses, handing one of those patches off to lessen someone else's grief. he's strong, not only in body, but in mind. he never stops to let himself grieve. he pushes on. he never crumbles, because he knows someone needs to hold everything together when shit goes south yet again. on the flying ship when Hange dies, he's the only one not crying, even though he was probably closest to them out of everyone. he loves deeply, and he is loved deeply, and that is all there is to being human.

Come to think of it was it ever stated that levi joining the scouts even made much of an impact? Sure he’s humanitites strongest soldier but did they ever state that his joining caused less casualties or etc.? Levi could tear apart titans in his sleep but it was only stated with eren’s joining that eren finally gave humanity hope and the ability to fight equally.

no. and I think that speaks to the absolute and crushing hopelessness of the people of the walls.

Levi was heralded as humanity's strongest, and it was neat and all, but what good was it really? to the people? he's good at killing titans, but he won't ever kill ALL titans.

even with Erwin as Commander, the Scouts were the weird unwanted step child of the military complex. eating up resources only to have themselves literally be eaten. Erwin wanted Levi because he was skilled, and he needed skilled people. maybe he gave some semblance of hope to others already in the Scouts, a sense of security perhaps, but no single human could have taken on a threat as inconceivable as the titans.

with Eren, it was something new. a boy who could turn into a titan was unprecedented. maybe there IS more to it. maybe this isn't just a hell they've been born into.

there has always been a strongest soldier in the survey corps. Levi is just the one who's lasted the longest.

kinda love the anime "cliché" of someone getting cut and the blood exploding out a second later, when it's Levi doing it. because it doesn't seem like the blood spurt is delayed, it feels like he's just going that fast. in the time between the cut and the blood welling up, he's hauled his ass somewhere else entirely. almost like we're seeing a slowed down version because if it was at original speed, We Would Not See Him At All.

what if the reason Zeke is allergic to clothes is that he's just not used to them anymore, especially when it comes to using his titan. because when he's in the labs in marley (he spends a lot of time in there), he has to be bare. for easy access.
