All this does is put more bad light on the proposal, and more unnecessary pressure on Minchum.
There are ways to minimize the outcry. The right people in the right pocket. The public can be mislead. What matters are the ones in charge. Spin anything the right way, and the damages can be mitigated.
“Fair enough.” Carolyn shrugged, giving him her undivided attention. “”One of may I’m sure. Muggle bred should be off this plane anyhow yeah?”
“At the very least they should be as far away from the pure as possible,” he agreed. “Less their impurities start to spread.”
You even keep the books you don’t like? You must have a collection, then.
I have the space. If I dislike a book after purchase, it gets thrown away.

Aric nodded. “Close the door” He motioned at one of the chairs in front of his desk. “I have to admit, I’m relieved it’s you. You of all people understand what this new order means for us.” Aric walked over to a cabinet and pulled out two glasses and a bottle of firewhiskey before walking back to the desk and sat in the other chair next to Lucius. “I’m not entirely sure how we’re to stop this new legislation without completely giving ourselves away”
Lucius obliged, shutting the door firmly as he stepped into the office. “It’s a game of favors and subterfuge,” he said, taking a seat with a natural elegance. “And knowing the ties we can use to protect ourselves. If it means going through others, then we do. If it means addling a few memories along the way, then we do. Reputation is everything - and I have worked hard to make sure that mine is pristine. It will help me here. Otherwise...it is a risk that can ruin everything with a single miscalculation.” He smiled, wry and ill-humored. “A dangerous game.”

She considered. “I suppose I could ask a friend or a designer to draw up some sketches,” she reasoned, more with herself than with him.
Lucius nodded encouragingly. “That sounds like an excellent idea,” he agreed.
“How excited you must be,” Vivien mused, recalling her wedding excitement, and jitters, from years before. “Please accept my congratulations again. Both of your parents must be beside themselves with anticipation.” As her words trailed off, the house elf reemerged with tea. Once the little creature set the gold trimmed tray down, Vivien promptly shooed it. “How do you take your tea?”
“I’m looking forward to it,” he agreed, genuine pleasure in his gaze as he briefly considered life married to Narcissa. It would make things easier, to be certain. “My mother has been counting the days, and my father’s reserved - but you can tell that he’s pleased. I can’t speak for Narcissa’s parents, however, but since they were instrumental in organizing the betrothal I can only assume they’re content.” He looked at the tray as he answered, “Black.”

I would rather own any of the books I read. Unless this library is suddenly willing to sell as well.
“It’s all about the death and destruction these days huh?” Carolyn awkwardly ease her way into the conversation, her mind on the latest news of Henry’s death. No death should be glorified, but it was her job to print and write. Like a hamster on a wheel, that was about how her day went. “Must have stuck his nose where it doesn’t belong.”
Lucius glanced up and said as his gaze moved critically over the other, “Well, some are more interesting in print than others.” He straightened slightly, shifting his grip on his cane. “But I’m inclined to believe you’re right, on the motive at the least. Though the same could be said of anyone who meets a foul end.”
This is what passes for news these days?
Anything passes for news when there’s someone willing to pay money to see it in print.

Aric was in his office when his arm burned as his Dark Mark called out to him. He received the message from Voldemort and began to panic. He knew he’d have to come up with some sort of idea to stop the new legislation, especially since he was going to be the one to make the announcement for it. He’d hoped by telling people around him that he’d never seen any dark wizards about that it would eventually die down, but in his heart he knew the Ministry wouldn’t stop. They’d weed them all out eventually, himself included. He looked over at his clock on the wall and realized it was late. He began to pack up to head home when someone knocked on his door and cracked it open.
“Oh sorry, I was just on my way out…Didn’t realized anyone was still here, what are you doing here at this late hour?”
Lucius detested whenever the mark burned, mostly for the discomfort and also for the fact that - more often than not - it in some way inconvenienced him. He was willing to go great lengths for the Dark Lord, of course (and anyone who doubted that would get a firm scolding in response). But there were times when he had to move carefully - more carefully than others. He had worked hard for his position within the Ministry and he wasn’t willing to sacrifice his name and his family’s hard work in an over-eager frenzy. He simply had to be careful.
“I was finishing up some work,” he said as he stepped into the office and leaned against the doorframe. “I thought that you might like some company, as our agendas are suddenly similar.”

“It’s not bother,” Vivien interjected. “I assure you. Company is always welcome. As is catching up. I’m afraid it’s been much too long since I’ve spoken to you and Narcissa.” Vivien turned on her heals, and began leading Lucius into the sitting room. Long, black and mahogany lounging couches sat carefully in a room with hardly any decor. Only one tapestry remained against the stone wall, which detailed Vivien’s lineage over the past few centuries. It was easily the most valuable aspect of Edengale Hall, albeit not for the quality. Rather, it detailed a long history of respectable purebloods, which the Travers prided themselves on.
Vivien sat on one of the lounges. Within moments, a small, crinkly looking house elf emerged from the corridor. “Would Mistress Vivien and guest like some tea?” Vivien pursed her lips. “Yes.”
Curiously, Lucius let his gaze wander over the houses decor, taking note as he went and letting his eyes linger on the tapestry of the Travers family tree, his mind going back to the family tree that he had seen in Narcissa’s mother’s home on previous visits. “We’ve been caught up in planning the wedding, especially since it’s coming up so quickly,” he said. “Fortunately, Narcissa is handling all the planning very well. With her in charge, everything should go flawlessly.”
His nose crinkled slightly at the sight of the house elf, but he made no comment as he took a seat.
“I don’t doubt it.” Alecto paused as Lucius opened the door, instincts from long-forgotten etiquette lessons kicking in, much to her own surprise. “Thank you.” She flashed a brief smile at him as she entered the restaurant. “From the smell of things, I’m starting to believe you. How did you find this place anyway?”
“It was a favorite of my mothers, before she met my father,” he explained as the door closed behind them and a waiter appeared to guide them to a table. “She had an adoration for the subtle things in life - including subtle restaurants.”
Blood rushed to Vivien’s cheeks, and she felt certain a rosy hue plagued her face. While her embarrassment, and it’s physical manifestation, set Viven back, her resiliency began running in overdrive. Edengale Hall beckoned humiliation, but she refused to let it ruin Lucius Malfoy’s company. In fact, his presence could prove advantageous, considering the prestige he carried—along with his betrothed.
“How kind and thoughtful of you.” Vivien flashed a charming smile. “I’m afraid we weren’t expecting company. You must pardon my surprise—but please, won’t you join me inside for tea?”
The blush didn’t go unnoticed, but he politely refrained from commenting on it and simply chalked it up to lack of preparedness. He likely should have given prior warning, but he hadn’t felt the need this time.
“If it’s not a bother for you, then I think I will,” he agreed. No doubt having tea would give him more information to pass along to Narcissa. “We can use the time to catch up.”

She shook her head. “I don’t want simple. I want a great big gown.” She bit her lip. “I need to look like a princess. It’s in my plans.” She had such plans since she was young.
“I didn’t mean a simple dress,” he corrected. “Nor would I ask you to compromise like that. I meant starting with the basics of what you want - dress size, dress cut, lace or no lace, veil or tiara. Find the pieces before looking at the whole.”
“That’s reassuring.” Alecto replied with a smile. “Although I’ll have to wait and see if this restaurant is as good as you say for me to fully trust you.” She continued with a teasing grin.
Lucius chuckled amusedly. “When it comes to matters of elegance, I am very rarely deceitful,” he said. They reached the door to the shop, which looked rather innoccuous from the outside, but as Lucius opened the door it revealed a delicately furnished and thriving restaurant filled with smells that taunted his stomach. He held the door open for Alecto. “After you.”

Narcissa swallowed. “I want a great big one, but I… don’t know much about where I should really look.”
“If you like, I can ask my mother for her advice,” he offered. “I’m certain that we’ll be able to come up with something. Perhaps there is some merit in starting simple, to see what you want, and then moving on to better stores?”
