Excuse the goblin bastard for misquoting Freud.
Sverenne attitudes towards immigrants:
Ottoneshans (allus): Oh sure, you can come in, as long as we can work you to death, pay you slave wages and then send you back to where you came from... until we exploit you again for our next big project.
Sienese: Why would we waste our time with you? You have nothing of value you can offer and quite frankly we're superior in every way.
Myrisads (naiads): You guys were mean to us - maybe not you specifically, but your ancestors' ancestors - so get the fuck out-
Druwolise: I mean, we don't really like you, but everyone else here is an immigrant, so...join the party...I guess.
Yaschtkin (goblins): Another invader taking our land? Welp, guess we'll just give you our homes and move someplace else we can complain about. But be sure to try our soup before we go.
Jad' Jahan: An outsider? The gods have blessed us this day. Come. Feast with us. We shall impart to you our abundant wisdom, but first, spill the tea and tell us everything your homeland doesn't want us to know~
Zephry had a dog named Djalla he loved very dearly, but Wintrem took her from him when it was clear he was too emotionally distraught to properly take care of her. She now remains with Wintrem and will be given back to Zephry on the day he finally becomes sober once again.
More scribbles of Zephry Drux which I forgot to post, lol
Goblin Language
Yaschtkin - the goblin language - is a particularly harsh dialect which many would describe as a series of hacking sounds akin to clearing one's own throat. In the early 11th century, a famous traveller from abroad, who was not familiar with the Yaschtkin vernacular, began to suspect that goblins infact had delicate immune systems, and was, at that time, suffering from a major coughing epidemic they just could not get rid of. This erroneous presumption is commonly sourced as the origin of the misguided belief that all goblins are dirty and easily spread disease.
Zephry Drux (right) is another one of Sverenne's legends. Having grown up in Druwol as a poor, goblin, immigrant during the 19th century, Zephry was believed to have started his career designing machines for lowly illusionists, and doing all manners of sordid odd jobs for Woxardam's subversives - including the pushing of illegal, rare magical objects, and playing the diversionist during body snatches. After he had inadvertently become the poster child for the anti-establishment, and had been coerced into pursuing a brief career in politics, he was forced to clean up his act and henceforth had dedicated the rest of his life to the comprehensive study of worldwide magic. His goal was to make sorcery accessible to everyone, especially those who could not cast it.
He is now accredited with being the founding father of Soot Wizardry - a controversial field of study that integrates magic with technology - and an avid contributor of Amalgamation Magic. Zephry is most famous for discovering the correlation between acoustic frequencies and the fundamentals of spellcasting. Ergo he had learned how to dramatically amplify spells, and also generate magic from non-magical sources.
I don’t want to bait people into thinking Malignant Remedy is a romance novel, but in light of all the anti-LGBT rhetoric going around, it is my humble duty to stick it to all the bigots out there and expose them to as much wholesome LGBT content as possible. Hence, I have bestowed unto them my two flirting men. Look aT TheM. Let the GaYneSs pervade you. 👁👄👁 (The tall one, Izammar, is a gay, trans man. The short one, Zephry, is a bisexual cis man. They are both canonically queer.)
Sverenne's Handbook to Identifying a Goblin
Goblins can be identified by five physical traits:
1) The average goblin is typically much shorter than the average human.
2) The average goblin is typically much hairier than the average human.
3) All goblins have prominant noses with deep indented bridges which are slightly corrugated.
4) Goblins have much thicker skin than humans, and so they have plenty of excess skin which manifests in multiple moles and skin tags all around their body. It is extremely common for goblins to have moles or large patches of discoloration on their faces.
5) Goblins have pointed ears which are generally shorter and wider than the pointed ears of their Allu cousins.
I don't really draw this, but the tips of Zephry's hair is supposed to be bleached. It's from when he used to bleach his hair obsessively to appear more "human"...or at least seem more approachable to humans. Blonde hair is not natural among goblinkind, only black, brown and red.
I suppose he stopped doing it when he finally realized it just made him look slimier than he looked before.
I've been so fucking sad this week, so forgive me, cause all I can draw are messy scribbles.
More of my goblin guy, Zephry.
What does Morchesso hope to achieve with creating the Malignant Remedy? What is the ultimate goal for him?
One of Morchesso's earliest memories is one of heartbreak and trauma. In the memory he recalls being held in the arms of a naiad woman. He doesn't even know if this woman is a mother, a sister, or even a woman at all. But when they suddenly submerge underwater, the angry hands of men claw at them from all directions. Morchesso feels two arms entwine around his waist, and as he is violently ripped from the woman's grasp, an axe comes swiftly down over her head. As he is dragged further away from the woman, the last image he is left with is her lifeless body descending into the murk, and a stream of blood flowing from her head.
Morchesso had been told about the Myrisadian massacres, but he wasn't all together sure that his memory of it was real. Either way, there was never a time where he did not imagine a scenario where the woman was saved. And that is why he worked on the remedy. He did not want to ever live in a reality where he could not save the people he loved nor live in a reality where the most vulnerable were defenseless.
Complaining Goblins
It is an integral part of Goblin culture to complain. It is not even considered impolite to do so. If you were to never complain and always feign your contentedness, they will think you are a stick.
A new update of the Sverenne map. There are actually three major continents: The Sun Continent to the South (Accode and The Ottoneshan Empire), The Moon Continent to the North (Druwol, Myr, Ureska, Bjerganval, Yischt, The Siens and The Broken Isles) and the Bolide Continent to the far north, which is a large icey landmass not depicted here.
I also made an alternative map which marks roughly where some of the Sverenne legends took place.
The Wartch Tax
The infamous "Wartch Tax", as it was nicknamed by the people, was a levy imposed on mages by Druwolise lawmakers in an attempt to even out the market. It was predicated on the notion that when a mage built a fire, he did not need to purchase matches to light it, and could instead use a simple spell. So, by taxing only witches and warlocks on unpurchased essentials, the money would then be used to subsidize non-magic craftsmen in order to keep their businesses afloat.
Of course, the tax seemed reasonable at first, but over the years, as the politicians got greedy, the tax grew suspiciously in size, and they tried to blame it on inflation. Now, even the most inexperienced financier can recognize that the heavy tax is a despotic measure meant to keep mages in the slums.
The Wax Dam
Woxardam - Druwol’s crown jewel of a trading city, and the biggest candle producers in the world - got its name from a hotly debated urban legend that the townspeople, some hundred years ago, built a massive dam out of wax. As the legend goes, they built it to honor their king, and adorned the structure with thousands of lit candles in a grand spectacle for all to see. Overnight, while they celebrated their massive “feat”, the dam unsurprisingly melted and gave way to the raging river, which swept away the celebrants and half the town with it.
Ever since, the name sort of stuck, forever enshrining the town’s stupidity. It is believed that the engineers were so embittered by their failure, that they settled on making a little wax bridge instead, which remains in the city to this day and is re-waxed annually.
Udula
The Ottoneshans have the idiom, "you've been touched by Udula" which essentially means, "you've spent far too much time in the sun and are now made crazy by its effects." The saying originates from the legend of Udula, an ancient allegory that was told to discourage travellers from heedlessly traversing the desert.
Ottoneshans believed that those who got lost in the treacherous drylands would eventually wind up in Udula, a realm where the sand ripples circles like water and the dunes undulate like waves. Udula was believed to be a pocket realm left accidently by the gods, and if a stray enters Udula, then their soul has already left their body, dooming them to wander the sands for eternity.
Skeptics who doubt the legend are convinced that Udula is really just the hallucinations of those touched by heat exhaustion.
