Postcard from Kalocsa, Hungary
It's that time of year again...
hey so, in a very recent post of mine, I briefly mentionned my Roma background,I actually come from a Sinti background, have an ashkenazi maternal grandpa and is in the process of converting.
I was raised in a jewish home, but with a lot of Roma influences, so I don't really know where I belong, since Roma Jews are not exactly the biggest community out there lol.
Do y'all think I can add it to my intro post? I'm used to antisemitism, but antitziganism is still really hard to deal with.
Idk man.
Hi! 👋
Rroma-Jewish Brit here! Romany-traveller on my mother’s side, Jewish on my father’s. Raised in the lovely, culture-flattening estates of northern Leeds where being from any minority gets slurs and litter thrown at you. It has its charm I promise!
Yeaaaahhh there’s very few of us around. Even fewer who speak English or live in circumstances with ready access to the internet. But we exist. And I for one am here for ya if you ever need any support. Being from one minority cultural background that gets as much shit as either the Rroma or the Jewish people is tough. Both? There’s a mental strain to it that’s difficult to articulate to those that don’t get it get it.
Even other black/brown people in my community, usually being African Christian/muslim/hindu and being a minority in the UK by circumstance rather than actual population of their community, is really hard to explain the particular types of racism, xenophobia and ethnophobia me and my siblings face.
It’s hard. But I and others like us are out there. Let’s support each other 😁
Yep 😌
Been thinking a lot lately about that one post that's like "the reason there is a Jewish version of so many things is because the non-Jewish version is just antisemetic".
This war's weapon of choice is media narrative and words online, and the ghettoization of Jews is probably also happening online as opposed last generation's physical ghettos. That's why nobody recognizes it.
And the only people who aren't trapped between "victim card" and accusations of inherent untrustworthiness are our non-Jewish allies and yet so many are silent.
I can’t get the idea of digital ghettoisation out of my head now because…yeah, that’s exactly what the last two years have felt like. Slowly being carolled into spaces either just for us or only in the presence of a trusted few because the entire rest of the digital landscape has been made inhospitable to Jews who refuse to roll over and take the abuse others feel we deserve.
An old method made new. Their judenhass-ing ancestors must be so proud 🙄.

"The miracle is not that I should speak, but that you should ever listen!"
That line, roared by the Creature in hopeless frustration and rage, hit me right in my childhood traumas with the force of a fucking freight train like choo choo bitch I'm crying again!!

she's the best of us
In the credits, Guillermo thanks the following:
Mary Shelley, who wrote the book (obviously)
Bernie Wrightson, whose illustrations in the 1983 graphic novel were the inspiration for the Creature
Boris Karloff, who played the Creature in the 1931 film
James Whale, who directed the 1931 film
When so much of the “social justice” left have managed to convince themselves that a minority that comprises 0.2% of the planet’s population and who have been persecuted, oppressed and genocided throughout all of recorded history are somehow the problem, that’s when you know they’ve completely lost the fucking plot.
And then, of course, these same "justice" minded people try to convince everyone else that the one place on earth where this tiny minority aren't abused and oppressed is, in fact, illegitimate, shouldn't exist and their sovereignty should instead be given up to a colonising majority who have spent centuries ethnically cleansing them from the surrounding areas.
Nuts.
“is this character good or bad” “is this ship unproblematic or not” “is this arc deserving of redemption or not” girl…
pitter patter putter patter *you look down and see this*

Okay but this is exactly what I love.
The above image is a historical artifact. Colima dog. It dates back to circa 100 BCE-300 CE. (x)
And, around two thousand years later it was originally shaped with care, painted with love, and adored… someone draws it. Draws it using a new technological device that allows modern people to shape things with care, paint with love, and even move them -on a screen, glowing.
And the said person decides to share it with the world. The whole world adores it.
I love the connection between past and today. We were humans back then, and we are still the same.
Cute dog :)
