And then, because he's now bound to that life, he became Gallagher (or who Gallagher was at that point in time as a fictionologist, I don't think he was actually Gallagher then and that identity is relatively newish and more 'true') and started to help Mikhail out. Because he had to maintain a lie, he was very faithful but had to keep his distance and let Mikhail mourn while he did his best to support him. He'd visit him in the memoria, however.

This would make Hanunue seem pretty cruel, but he might have been bound by his new nature and did his best to keep Mikhail alive as long as possible. When he was able to let go of who he was, he let Gallagher die, and now he's able to move on from Penacony.

... this is probably all completely bunk that'll change after I finish the storyline, but whatever. I like it.

It would mean that Gallagher, in physical form, is a borisin and is a big wolf-man, which means anyone allied with the hunt and the Xianzhou is probably going to want to stab him. Alas.

He now has to figure out more or less a new story/lie to live, and move on.

I do think he's still very attached to Penacony, and Robin in particular. His voice lines about her were filled with respect. He cares her.
