Whistle-stop
HRPF | Sid/Geno | 2025-26 season
It had been a long time since anything had happened between them. More than a decade. Zhenya sometimes thought about it when he was alone at night, but most of the time, he had the team, and he had Sid on the ice. For now. (The Pittsburgh Penguins are close to clinching a spot in the 2026 Stanley Cup playoffs. Zhenya is having a resurgence in the waning twilight of his career, and Sidney Crosby is having an existential crisis.)
Chapter 1/8
master list
hi everyone <3 i hope you like this year's prompt list! here is this year's collection, which i'm going to open sometime on january 31.
a few notes:
the collection is unmoderated and i am not reading each individual entry. please be mindful of your fellow participants and tag and warn as is appropriate!
this is a pan-fandom event. all pairings from all fandoms are welcome, no exceptions. no anti nonsense will be tolerated, and if you see any please send me a note so i can ban that person from participating.
there are no minimum participation requirements for this event. you can do some, all, or none, and the prompt fills don't have to be posted the day of—this is just a guideline to hopefully help spark your creativity in a tough month of the year! in the past, people have even combined multiple prompts for one larger work. whatever you want! just try to keep the theme in mind.
the use of AI in any capacity is not permitted. that includes for artwork, writing, and editing. if i discover that AI has been used, the submission will be removed and the participant banned.
leave comments! we all do our best to create for ourselves, but communities are only as strong as the participants. the best way to encourage others to comment on your stuff is to lead by example—be the change!
and finally—this is an 18+ only event. no exceptions.
happy writing!
last year we had 270 entries- do you guys think we can do that again?
sidgeno watching the sunrise <3
sorry this took me as long as it did, anon! i had every intention of writing on the plane but, well, you know what they say about good intentions.
anyway, i've finished it up now, you can read it here—i hope you like it! <3

“your friend is dead, and their corpse is inhabited by something only you can see for what it truly is" is already good horror. but "you begin to love the thing that wears their face"? the blasphemy of it. terror turning into desire. grief turning into longing. being enticed by what should repel you. it twists the knife deeper, because the horror is not based on deception anymore. the fear comes from recognizing the monster in its raw form and finding beauty there. you're not clinging to scraps of your friend, you're surrendering to something other, something wrong, and loving it. you're not holding onto a ghost of the past, it’s the monster itself that you choose
1 for the end of year fic asks please <3
end of year fic asks
1. What’s your personal favourite thing you wrote this year?
i think maybe it's cheating to refer back to my postgame series for this one, but that is by far the project i'm most proud of out of everything i've ever written, so if you're ever bored and looking to relive the glory(?) days of the 24-25 season, i'm here for you—and my ao3 inbox sure would love and appreciate any comments you might have :3
other than that, i think jump, then fall is my favorite thing i wrote in 2025. i'm really proud of the pacing and dialogue of this one, and i think i did a good job with portraying to the audience what was going on in geno's head before sid knew, along with showing sid's growing feelings that he's in denial of until the end. and there are some lines in this one that i REALLY like :)
thank you for giving me a chance to re-read all my stuff, because i forgot how much fun i had writing this one, and of course this one always scratches a certain itch :D
I'd love to know the answer to 10!!!
end of year fic asks
10. What, if anything, are you going to try to do differently in your writing in the new year?
well i'd like to actually write more consistently again! i was doing GREAT the first part of this year, and well.....Things Happened. i am assuming (which is perhaps a mistake??) that i won't end up with either another hideous personal tragedy or a debilitating autoimmune disease in 2026.
before i got sick, i was easily writing 200+ words a day. a lot of that was for the postgame series, but even when there were off-stretches i'd write a couple paragraphs (or more!) on some of my other projects. it's true what they say: in order to write you have to write, and the more i made sure to carve out time and force myself to even do something, the easier the words came. by the end of the season those postgames were practically automatic, it was amazing. so, i'd really like to get back into the habit of writing daily, focusing on a few projects from my massive WIPs folder and completing them and then moving on to the next one instead of bouncing around between so many and never actually finishing.
i'd also like to focus more on plot. i have a few oneshot-ish ideas i want to clear out, but i haven't actually written proper plot in SO long, i'd like to tackle one of my drafts that is a little more plotty and thus will require actual planning instead of winging it. i'm very good at winging it but proper planning scares me, so it's time to overcome my fears!
End Of Year Fic-Writer ask meme:
This has been a long, weird year, and if you’re like me, you wrote a whole whack of fic over the course of it. So here’s a bunch of questions to ask about that:
What’s your personal favourite thing you wrote this year?
What’s your least favourite thing you wrote this year?
Which of your fics was most different from what you usually write?
Which of your fics this year was most successful?
Which of your fics do you wish was more successful?
What’s your favourite piece of dialogue you wrote this year?
What’s your favourite piece of description or narration?
Which fic this year was most fun to write?
If you could go back and change something about one of the fics you wrote this year, what would it be?
What, if anything, are you going to try to do differently in your writing in the new year?
to me this is sid from wine, flowers, & blood:
Bro quickly there's not time to explain you have to shove your fingers in my mouth and make me hump your thigh like a dog hurry there's no time
Introducing Fanart Frenzy!
As you may unfortunately be aware, scammers are currently flooding fanfiction comments with art commission scams (more info on the scam and what to look out for here). And we're absolutely sick of it. So here's our solution! Fanart Frenzy - an event designed to counteract these scammers and their impact on the fanfiction community, as well as raise awareness of their evolving scams.
What is Fanart Frenzy?
Fanart Frenzy is a month-long bingo event designed to bring a wave of fanfiction-inspired fanart into the community, entirely free and unsolicited, as fandom is supposed to be, in order to stem the flow of these scammers, encourage our favorite fic writers, and liven up our fandoms. This event is anti-AI - real, human-made art only! Our first event will take place from January 1-31, 2026.
How does it work?
You can sign up via our sign up form! In late December, we'll send out bingo cards to each participant with prompts guiding you towards fics in your fandom to make art for. (Ex. Make art for a fic with no comments). Throughout January, you can make as few or as many pieces of art as you like - you can aim for a bingo, a blackout, or just pick one fic you really want to make art for. Post your work anywhere you'd normally post it, then share it with the writer and the Fanart Frenzy community.
Can't draw?
No worries! This event is about all kinds of art, not just traditional art - everything from playlists to gif sets to cookies to fiber arts, memes, and more. Anything artistic you can do inspired by a fanfic is perfect for this event.
If you don't enjoy making art, the event also includes a Comment Challenge! During sign up, you can choose a bingo card with only art-related prompts, only commenting-related prompts, or a mix of the two. Non-artists can participate alongside artists by following the prompts to find fics in their fandoms in need of thoughtful, kind comments. (Ex. Leave a comment on a fic you've reread.)
You can also help us out by spreading the word! Please tell your friends and fandom communities about our event!
If you’d like to join our event team as an official promoter in your fandom(s), please indicate your interest in our entry form! If we have an opening for someone in your fandom, we'll get in touch! More info on becoming a promoter and what that entails here.
Before the event starts, please join us on our discord server, follow us here on tumblr or on reddit and bluesky!
Have any questions, concerns, or comments? Please drop them here or send us a message and we'll answer as soon as possible!
had an ao3 draft started for a fic i was hoping to have finished sooner than later, authors note with reference links to inspo images all tee'd up...forgot about it until today and the draft has since deleted itself. ending it all.
